RBP3 [Spoilers] Capac of Mali

T76 Played. FP farm finished last turn at Sticky Fingers, I started another one N of the city. Satisfaction met a barb SE of the capital. The barb is on a forest, so I didn't attack it.
Reply

T77 played. Barb warrior suicided against Satifaction (2.9/4) who continues his fog-clearing. Moved Bianca back towards Sirian in anticipation of meeting Ottomans, and us getting IW. She's now 1N of Uberfish. Marianne started to road the copper at Blake.

A Quecha and a barb warrior have shown up south of Brown Dot, but the big foreign news is someone landing Hanging Gardens (I believe it's Ottomans). I'm sure they will have had stone, but I'm not sure whether it pays off to build it this early.

Suggestions T78: move Satisfaction to the grass hill, move Bianca to the Gems, move L'Wren back towards the Gems from Blake & send new skirmisher towards Sticky Fingers.
Reply

T78: Satisfaction moved 2 grass hill, and a sighted a barb warrior. Settler finished in Sirian, started Library. The Settler heads south towards Brown Dot. Skirmisher finished in Blake, start Monument. New Skirmisher heads towards Sticky Fingers (and needs a name).

Jack moves to the tile marked "move here to meet Otto", but we haven't met them yet. Are we supposed to meet them this turn? I've held off ending turn in case we are so we can request IW.

I suggest whipping the Monument at Blake on turn 80 and also the Granary at Sticky Fingers on turn 80.

Where (and when) do we want to expand next?
Reply

Hmmm...looks like my understanding of where Ottomans were and in which direction they were headed was wrong. As such, I've moved Black NW-NW out of Sticky Fingers to help locate their unit....but checking the chats again, I found this orphaned message from England that must have been sent after I logged out:
Quote:Haphazard1,: hm. Looks like there are barbs between you and Carthage's city of Boring, where the Ottomans are. They're going to be in the city, not moving east, since they're already damaged you'll probably have to coordinate with Carthage since they'll know where the Otto chariot is

I've dropped Carthage a note asking them to facilitate the meeting.

As to Blake, I'd prefer it to be our unit pump, so I'd rather whip a barracks than a monument. I know Inca is suffering since their war with Azteca, but I think we should err on the side of caution and get as much power as possible. Brown Sugar (ok so there's no sugar, but it was Brown Dot) should go granary => library to bring Blake's FP into play.

I switched one of Sirian's citizens from a mine to cottage to shave a turn off Calendar.

As far as settling goes, England has told us that there's a site N of Blake that has Corn, Pigs & Iron, so fogbusting and settling there should be our next objective. Time-wise, we'll want to whip Sirian's Library then grow back to size 6 before whipping the settler. This will give us time to whip Blake's barracks and send a skirmisher fogbusting.

EDIT: turn not ended to allow Ottomans to meet us. With all the wars going on ATM there's not so much pressure to end turn.

Looked in the Diplo screen and noticed that we've met Gandhi of <Egypt (Krill) so requested Alpha & Poly, and sent a greetings note.

Diplo update, or La France, c'est fini:
Quote:18:35
me: hiya

Haphazard1,: howdy

me: Swiss here, back from vacation.

Haphazard1,: ah, welcome back

me: So what's new?

Haphazard1,: France is getting torn apart
18:36
we burnt Lyons (1 warrior defending) last turn

and then stole 2 workers this turn

me: woo for you!

Haphazard1,: we deleted one of the workers
18:37
but, yeah

France: No slavery

and their POPPED copper source

has 2-3t left

me: no slavery = death

Haphazard1,: we've well over 2x their power
18:38
much of that is techs

but...yeah

6 warriors + 1 spear

empire-wide

me: that'll be the end of them then
18:39
Haphazard1,: 3v1, when the 1 has no slavery?

Uh...yeah

me: I wonder what they were thinking

running so light on military?

Haphazard1,: they're running so light on everything

their 2nd city has...a monument

I don't think it even has a granary
18:40
although, frankly, without slavery

a granary isn't necessary

me: Weird: not as if they've been missing turns either

Haphazard1,: I know
18:41
I think they saw Lizzie take off in PB2

and thought "hey, let's do that"

without considering two things:

1) Fast Workers

2) They're not Sullla

and 3) This isn't nearly as friendly a map
18:42
me: 4) Slavery and handy copper were key
18:43
Haphazard1,: right

well, I don't blame them for not expecting copper to be a reach

but, yes, slavery...wow

how can you NOT be oppressing your citizens?
18:44
me: exactly...if you don't oppress them someone else will wink

Haphazard1,: they've just played a very slow game

which is survivable in almost any level of SP play

but we smelled weakness
18:45
they also had the misfortune

of starting next to a civ (us) capable of churning out hammers like nobody's business
18:46
me: are you attacking with HAs already?

Haphazard1,: we build a city, and it gets culture + granary + rax almost instantly

no, we aren't

HRE has HAs en route

we've just got 5 chariots

our HAs are a little behind

me: plenty enough given the opposition

Haphazard1,: coming from the wrong end of our land

yeah

2 HAs can crush 1 spear

and then we wipe their warrior force
18:48
I assume you've seen your iron?

me: no, not met ottomans yet cry

Haphazard1,: oh, right

the pigs/corn site

me: but i think you said it was N of Blake

Haphazard1,: has it

yeah

I think it's 1NW of the corn

1NE, I mean
18:49
2 high-quality foods (well, the corn is dry) + iron? One of the strongest sites left in the game IMO
18:50
I think the Ottomans said it'll be 3t?

they're making good time

me: are they heading thru Boring?

Haphazard1,: yeah
18:51
It might only be 2t

they'll be 2E1S of boring next turn

and you're like 8E and 1S

definitely 1S
18:52
me: ok cool; just put some signs up
18:53
Haphazard1,: nice

ah, right, multiple turnplayers

I need to get back into the habit of doing that
18:54
if only Morgan would play his turn

so that Egypt can fight
18:55
me: What's he bringing to the party?

Haphazard1,: so far? 1 War Chariot

reinforcements are going to hit the suspected location

of their newest city

then come in

but with France's paper defenses

1 WC is enoguh

to be a threat
18:57
me: How's the monarchy research going?
18:58
Haphazard1,: depends on the city looting

our gold runs out after this turn, so it'll be slow

T83 if we don't get a city

I think

me: We should have Calendar in a dozen turns

Haphazard1,: ok, that'll help
19:03
get some extra happy
19:04
if we had enough gold, we'd be finishing Monarchy on T79

but France would have to be really stupid

for us to take Orleans next turn

a spear on a 20% culture city on a hill across a river? Not fighting that with chariots if I can help it.
19:06
me: no, that wouldn't be worth the risk
19:07
Haphazard1,: 5 chariots would kill it

probably

me: how much gold do you need?

Haphazard1,: 52

well, maybe slightly more

55 to be safe
19:08
me: we can fron t you the cash without impacting our research if we can get it back in 10 turns

Haphazard1,: without currency?

we'd be borrowing the cash from someone if we could

but it's not possible
10 minutes
19:19
Haphazard1,: and there's a good chance

we'll be able to get Paris on T78

so, that would put Monarchy at T80
19:23
me: ack forgot about no currency

Haphazard1,: yeah, otherwise it would be easy
19:24
and at 0% science

we could definitely come up with 52g

me: thanks for the chat

gtg

bye
19:25
Haphazard1,: ok

gtg

bye

Chat with DIM HRE...strange that he was giving Byz as our reason for jumping the fence, maybe he meant Babylon or was just fishin'. I straight-batted the topic (for now at least):
Quote:19:43
me: Hiya
19:45
DIM: hey thtere

I was going to offer HBR ingame, but game is paused smile

me: Swiss here...

DIM: Ilios here

me: just trying to get up to date after my vacation

DIM: ah
19:46
me: can't quite believe that we've only played 5 turns since 20 March!

DIM: that the reason your thread is relatively unupdated

yeah that sucks

and more trouble ahead

me: Daniel was holding the fort and broker is in wheooh...

DIM: wheooh?
19:47
me: We have enough on our hands (right now) wink
19:48
Glad to hear we're still good to get HBR

DIM: ah ofcourse smile

how are things down south?

me: Much the same as I left them wink

DIM: tell me a bit about Byzantium
19:49
they seem to be the reason you guys joined us

me: Met them fairly late on

but we switched for a number of factors
19:50
self-interest, good relations with babylon, discovering how silly exploit had been
19:51
DIM: you mean disregarding his defenses?
19:52
me: that and trying to bluff his way through it (hunting)

he should have changed tack when he didn't have horses
19:53
DIM: well his cunning plan failed

me: half failed wink

DIM: yeah
19:54
without Alpha Rome would be dead now

me: maybe but they might have self-researched hunting in a parallel universe
19:55
DIM: they might

they did cripple themselves mightily getting those spears out in time
19:56
your chariot Jack near Animal Farm wouldn't have met a Mayan warrior I'm looking for?
19:57
me: Not seen any Mayans but then I only played T75

DIM: they should be around

me: I'll ping Maya for their warrior's location

DIM: you saw our warrior?
19:58
me: Yes, when i logged in T76
20:00
DIM: good

I'm hoping to meet up with Babylon once we met Maya
20:02
me: Dunno whether they have any units around

Will ask Kyan next time I catch up with him

DIM: I'll just move to them I guess
20:04
they're south east right?
20:05
me: Yes
20:06
Not quite sure how far as they might have settled another city towards England (but am really not sure)

DIM: I think they have one about 8 tiles SE
20:08
me: That'll be Exodus I think

DIM: Gibraltar England told me

or is that an English city?
20:09
me: That's the southernmost English city

DIM: ah ok

crap I opened the diplo screen and I can't leave it
20:10
me: you'll have to crash to desktop I think
20:12
DIM: there done

all those pauses certainly gives one time to think over next moves
20:13
me: Or to tie oneself in knots considering all the possibilities tongue

DIM: yeah
20:14
I've been reduced to making micro's on the train to work...

me: lol

DIM: on paper
20:15
me: rofl

DIM: that's sad actually smile
20:16
me: I don't have enough time on the train to get sucked into that

but the diplo was getting a bit much before my break

what with sorting out the tech clique switch

DIM: yeah it's crazy
20:17
especially when I was recruiting other teams

since we were the only ones meeting most of the old members

me: yeah: you poached England grrrrr

wink

DIM: what can I say
20:18
smile

me: When we we hoping that there mght be smaller teams forming

*were

DIM: I think that's the future

no way 9-10 teams play nice all the time
20:19
me: we'll have to see how these wars pan out i guess
20:20
DIM: so you guys have nothing planning against Byz?

me: Not that I'm aware of

we don't share a border

DIM: you're between Maya and Babylon?
20:21
me: That's right

If we've got trouble coming then it'll be Inca

DIM: bad blood?
20:22
me: They still have army from the ruff war

and we're their nearest neighbour
20:23
DIM: how many tiles away?

because we're almost directly to their south

me: maybe you're closer

but we're settling towards each other

to grab the floodplains
20:24
DIM: we're settling our safe spots towards Ottomans and England first

not one city towards Rome or Inca

our capital is our front city, on a hill smile
20:25
me: make sense, but ius fence-jumpers have it a bit more tricky wink

DIM: true

but I can't see them moving against anyone
20:26
me: I doubt it also but we'll be sure to have a couple of skirmishers in the hill mounted border city
20:27
btw: any sign of ottomans anywhere near England

we're hurting for not having IW...
20:28
DIM: they haven't gotten any units
20:29
between your chariot and us

so you'll have to slog north

me: they have a warrior in carthage apparently
20:30
so that seems our best bet

DIM: ah ok
5 minutes
20:36
DIM: well, it would seem we won't be playing the turn anytime soon

i'll just watch an episode of Mad Men with the missus
20:37
me: thanks for taking the time to chat

by for now smile

*bye

DIM: later Swiss

wink:

We've got Poly & Alpha from Krill, and I logged in and accepted his OB proposal.

We don't have enough cash to finish Calendar at 100%, do we? Should we consider dialing down research, so that some of our research at 100% can be with the Library finished?
Reply

It's a bit hard to calculate how much cash we'll need at the moment, as we're paying away unit maintainence for 3 units that will head back into our borders next turn, and we're due to get some cottage growth soon, but founding Brown Sugar in 3 turns. Maybe we turn down research the turn we found Brown Sugar because we'll have a better idea of our expenses?

Can you log in later tonight to see whether we've met Ottomans and end turn if we have and have been offered IW? If not, I'll end turn tomorrow morning.
