I get it, I really do. Had the same feels when I lost my city and then the Petra. I think the mistake you did was just noob 
As somewhat of an expert in that area, I can say that you might feel like crap at first, but if you keep playing you will get over it and maybe start having fun with the game. And as a noob, you also learn to play better and the next time you won't make mistakes that you've done before, whether they are understanding a game mechanic wrong or something else.
