Here comes Plako. I had to play a relatively quick turn, so I don't have any screenshots, but I notice plako posted so he probably screenshotted it for you guys. I whipped away all the pop I could this turn, there will be another 20 pop or so next turn when the longbows aren't at whipping penalty.
His army is mostly maces and war elephants - I'm a bit surprised, because there's one knight in there but I haven't seen a knight stack. mackoti Wrote:SO GAVAGAI WINNED ALOT BUT HE DIDNT HAD ANY PROBLEM?
I did promise screenshots from the following turn. Here's a shot of the main front. Antiga Prime is looking very sad, and Shakuras isn't doing too good either.
![]() Whipped every city that could whip a longbow without the penalty, and on border cities I whipped anything I could, penalty or not. All told I've whipped away population eleven times, and i have probably six or seven more to do next turn. I think I will lose Antiga Prime next turn, maybe Shakuras too. It will be nice if those cities can survive one more turn as they have another whip in them each. My main 1-mover stack is here, inside Antioch. About a dozen spears, and a half dozen each of axes and cats. ![]() I was caught off guard by Plako's attack slightly - my stack was on it's way back down from the Bacchus front, but it's still two turns from my capital. The good thing is that Plako's stack is mostly maces, longbows, and mounted units - very few catapults, while i have quite a few cats. If I get the opportunity to hit a stack, I will. If not, well, holing up in a city works too. And finally, here's a shot of my overall military. ![]() A big chunk of it is still up in the north - probably half a dozen spears, several catapults, most of my chariots and several archers. If Bacchus wants to come opportunistically knocking while Plako is pushing my shit in, at least he'll pay dearly too. I'm whipping longbows up there too. I'm not going to be able to defend against Plako for very long, but I WILL make a better accounting of myself than bloody Nakor, that's for sure. And who knows - maybe I'll pull a PB2 Slaze and manage to bloody Plako's nose enough that he has to pull back after only one or two cities taken. mackoti Wrote:SO GAVAGAI WINNED ALOT BUT HE DIDNT HAD ANY PROBLEM?
Bonus picture
![]() Some of these whips were when I double whipped (as in whipped twice) my cities of Antiga Prime and Shakuras on the border. I did this to shrink them a bit, and since they will need to be whipped next turn if they survive anyway, this serves both purposes. What I'm not sure of and want to ask the lurkers. After I did this, it occurred to me that this might be bad form. I know that what Nakor did - practically gifting away his size 8+ cities - is frowned on, but is it also frowned on to go the other extreme and whip almost solely for the purpose of size reduction? mackoti Wrote:SO GAVAGAI WINNED ALOT BUT HE DIDNT HAD ANY PROBLEM?
I'm actually quite pleased I've survived in good enough shape to give Plako a fight. In case lurkers don't remember the early game, I was the idiot who lost a city and two pillaged pig resources to Plako at turn 60, barely a couple days after i had taken over from Serdoa. Back then I had hardly any improved food, only four cities, a few workers, no military to speak of other than a couple warriors and chariots, no ability to expand either towards plako or very far south, and I tell you what, I was pretty depressed and expecting to be the first civ eliminated.
Well, I achieved my goal of not being the first, in fact, I wasn't even the second or the third! So I'm pretty happy with how this game goes. I look forward to saluting Plako and metaphorically shaking his hand as I punch him right in the nose and march off into the glorious sunset. mackoti Wrote:SO GAVAGAI WINNED ALOT BUT HE DIDNT HAD ANY PROBLEM?
Sucks to be attacked, but good job doing what you can!

I think people are fairly divided about whether they'd do it themselves are not. I think the majority of people don't have a strong opinion on it, and only a few would consider it bad form while a few others would consider NOT doing it to be bad form.
Good luck with your war! I'm in a similar boat in one of my games; all that's left is making people think twice next time.
