Pitboss 18 Organizing Thread (RB Mod 34 Civs)

I'm sensing a trend here. Maybe the time isn't right for a 34 player insanity game.

I could see a few ways to go. You could wait for more games to end, especially RBP13. Or if you want to start now there does seem to be a decent amount of enthusiasm for game types (between mod, OCC, and vanilla) but I don't think you're looking at 30+ players coalescing around any one format.

The other option is you start this now (to maintain enthusiasm) and play with a slow timer (to relieve pressure from others playing 13).
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

That won't work. It will kill interest very quickly.

And T0 is already a long timer because it takes a lot of work to properly sim your start and plan the next 30-40 turns. A slow timer on T5, where most people spend 5 minutes, doesn't really help that.

I'm thinking probably we just wait a while on this particular game. If someone wants to organize something else, have at it.

I hope you don't mind me taking a bit more active role in organizing this thing. I'll open separate sign-up thread as soon as we've got the settings that would maximise the amount of teams in the game. That would be dedicated to sign-ups and we could continue other discussion here. I've also asked Caledorn and he was willing to both host the game and act as an Admin unless I can convince him to play wink. Commodore would cook up a map to us and work with Caledorn to get the best possible map for this thing. The consensus seems that the map should be a bit more tight than normally, but not go to Pitboss 15 level. Also both Continents and Lakes type of maps have got support. I'm ok with both, but would prefer a map having some differentiation and not the same everywhere and for everyone. I trust Commodore would do alright from here and maybe it is good idea not to give him any further directions to this to keep the map a bit more mystery.

So Am I right assuming these
Host: Caledorn (I've asked and it is ok to him)
Admin: Caledorn (or Commodore in case Caledorn plays)
Map maker: Commodore
Starting date: When we've 33 signups + Sullla, game will start assuming everything else is ready too.
Mod: RBmod's latest version. Minor tweaks are cooked up in the RBmod thread including especially increase to max number of players to more than 34, disabling map trading and probably affect to known civ bonus (Doubling it, but keeping the techs increasing it the same could work alright).
Leaders/civs: PB13 Method - Random roll - Players have 2 chances to pass - Can't pass 3rd roll. All passed leaders/civs come back to rereolling rounds.
Difficulty: Monarch
Speed: Normal
Vassals: off
TT: off
Huts: on
Events: off
Barbs: on
Espionage: on
Diplo: AI-diplo

Now I'd like to finalize this soon so that other stuff could proceed and we could really open up the sign-ups. Only reason to change these would be to maximise the number of people joining so please speak up, if you won't join because of some of these and how you would want things to be changed.

I'm OK with the settings, although events on is a bit meh for me. I had my fill of slave revolts in PB8, but there has also been talk of toning down negative events so if that happens I'm OK with them being on. When they're fun, they're good. When they kick you in the nuts, they're not so fun. But it isn't a deal breaker for me - I won't win or lose the game because of one of them. (I'll lose for other reasons, obviously!)

Question about the Espionage On setting: is this basically going to play out as it has in PB13 (or is it off there? I don't remember now). My last experience with it was in PB8 where in the late game tech stealing was really powerful. In a game with tons of people I can see the espionage economy being fun to explore, but I would worry if it became too strong. But I think it was toned down in the version of the mod between PB8 and PB13, so maybe that's already been handled.

Anyway, I am fine with the settings and yeah, I don't want to know too much about the map, I like surprises. As long as it's a fair map I don't want to know too much about it in advance.

I would be ok removing all the bad events from the mod.

Espionage is significantly nerfed in Rbmod's latest version.
