[SPOILERS] Seven Russias Into the Periclous Fray

Thanks, Ichabod. I'm really happy with how the game has turned out. I had certainly written off winning entirely from the moment I started teching IW up until I got Taj and a bit past that even, and was just playing to be in a good position when someone else won. But it seems I managed to claw my way back in, with the help of some good wonders and favorable geopolitics. At this point I don't know which position is favored. Mackoti has population that produce an extra hammer, and I'm certain he's used up fewer GP pops than me. But I do have more land, and the free specs from research institutes, and I think I've maintained borders that give me good opportunities for more conquest in the future. Then there's Gawdzak and Wetbandit, who can't be discounted, either; and there's Grimace and Haram who can at least affect the outcome.

You're fine. It seems though that Mackoti was trying to get second in turn order and I think that caused some delays in combination.

Conga line timeline:

1) I form the first conga line and offer 150gpt for all his luxes. No result.
2) I leave the conga line up and switch to producing gpt, allowing Haram to make any offers back. I also gift him my galley, which is on the same tile as the artist. No result.
3) I leave the conga line up one more turn and offer 150gpt for his luxes again, this time throwing in a defensive pact. I also move both my stored GPs from their safe home on a galley into vision of a sentry chariot of his. No result.
4) I disband the conga line and send everyone home, giving up.
5) HARAM MAKES HIS OWN CONGA LINE. HOLY SHIT.

Apparently he noticed my messages and is now responding in kind. What does it mean? What does he think I meant? Who knows! lol

His great artist moved, too. It's now 1S of hitshowers. I moved two cavalry that were available back exploring to find it and eventually as close as they could both get to it. I also moved my GPs up into view. I hope these actions make it more explicit that I want the artist in trade. I then offered him 165gpt for 150g. This is an equivalent gold total to my previous offer if you assume cancellation after 10t. However, instead of my safety clause being that he probably doesn't want to give up all his happiness, the safety clause here is that I can cancel after 1t by declaring war and only be down 15g. It also can possibly provide some confirmation to him that we are talking about 1500g here.

Interestingly, his conga line goes from hitshowers, where he moved his artist, to Foible. I think I'll wait to see his next move before I make any assumptions about what that means, or why he moved his artist (almost) there.

Meanwhile, back at home, I'm unsure of whether to run artists or merchants (in addition to engineer+spy) in my national epic city. First world problems.

I can't even begin to conceive of the meltdown I'd be having my thread trying to figure this all out if I were Haram. lol
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Lol. Gaspar meltdowns are fun, especially when Noble is there as the stoic foil to his tormented rant.

Haram may or may not have understood what I was asking, but it's moot because he got a great scientist (for a golden age with the artist). We both pulled our units back and he triggered the GA. Luckily I'd set my NE city to artists.

This game is now tied for most turns I've played in a multiplayer civ game. The only competition is from PBEM6, which was the very first game I played at Realms Beyond. (PBEM19 got further era-wise, but it was on quick speed so never reached the 200 turn mark.) Pretty cool... and this game has been a wild ride.

I have here a ridiculous number of screenshots. Seriously, it won't even let me put them all in one post. Sorry, not going to go through all 72 and figure out captions. Instead, if anyone has questions I will be happy to answer them. I can also field requests for additional screenshots. wink

Sorry. alright It's helpful for knowing how many cities I have and quickly navigating between them to have their names be alphabetical. And I guess I'm also trying not to communicate anything to the other players through the names of my cities, so I just decided on a system for naming them at the start of the game and followed it.

What is the system for the city names?
