We had another highly entertaining match today, even if it wasn't quite as crazy as some of the other ones from this year. We have just one more playoff game to go before the Championship. Thanks to everyone who was able to turn out today and take part in the Livestream. Special thanks to the winners of today's picking contest; we had an eight-way tie for first place! One other thing: we have the Championship game coming up in a few weeks, and I'm open to volunteers who would like to design the map for that game. Some of you may be familiar with the map that we used for the first two season, which looked like this:
I'll use this again if no one is interested, but I wanted to open things up if there was any interest in crafting something different. I'm looking for something along the following lines:
* One continent map aside from the Observer civ (the AI fares poorly with water)
* Mirrored starting positions, and ideally a six-way symmetrical map
* Be creative but don't get too crazy
We have some super talented map makers here at this community - anyone interested?
I thought Mansa would shield Gandhi and Gandhi would quietly get to cultural victory. Never realised Mansa was going to sign open borders with everyone, not do any shielding, and don't even bother trying to protect Gandhi! At least he did me a favour by going for culture
Will be funny if Pacal ends up wining the championship after his barely good enough performances in all 3 games this season
Quick question: when looking at all AI's that didn't die and yet didn't advance in the playoffs, how is it calculated which AI came seventh, eighth, or ninth across the three playoff games?

Would it be insane to modify the industrial start PB game map? That was a great map, just a tad too much water for AIs.
A map like that is great for human players, but it wouldn't work too well for the AIs. Aside from having far too much water, there were a lot of narrow access points, and that's something the AI struggles to deal with. One of the reasons why we keep using these blobby Pangaea maps is so that all of the AIs can reach one another without too much difficulty. If half of the AIs can't reach the other half, much of the drama in the games falls apart. Add in the fact that the PB33 map was designed for 7 civs and not 6 civs, and it means that the map in that game would require so much editing as to require starting over from scratch with something else.
Something along those lines could be viable though, if it started with 6 civs and kept the mirrored design but placed everyone on one continent with viable access to one another. Again, I don't have anything particular in mind for the Championship game, I simply wanted to throw this open to the community if anyone had an idea.
