Aye; as far as I know, only one pin was seen, and it was not terribly revelatory. It's very possible that it was just a pin set "visible to all" by mistake, but as pins have been buggy in the past, and even if just a mistake, a similar one could lead to real problems in the future, best practice might be to avoid using pins altogether (in favor of e.g. Paint-edited maps in spoiler threads). Obviously that's not up to me though!

Every one double check there pins? I can guess what one it is however it does not show who owns it, and it is probably just visible to all. I really like using pins and it is one of the best ways to confirm with my teammate where things will go without a screw up, so I would really like to keep them around.
I suggest to all teams to check their pins. Most likely one is set to 'all can see'.
By the way, pins are not banned between members of the same team. They are banned for communication between teams.
Agree, I am pretty sure it was somebody accidentally having it set to "all" and not "team". I really like using them since it helps me visualize my dot map and optimize it with my teammate. I really don't want see them banned. How about if someone sees another players pin(s), we all agree to just post a quick note in general terms (like "I see a pin" ) and we can all check any of our new pins. That way we can still use them and can quickly address any issue.
I've had some other issues with pins as well, sometimes they change settings between "team" and "self" between turns randomly. There's also the everpresent (and annoying ) bug where they randomly alter an old tag when you are trying to add a new one. This is my number one UI issue at the moment, I was so happy they reintroduced the map-marking which was moronically never included in civ 5, but the current system is just too broken. Say what you will about the idiotic city interface design, but at least that works as intended.
I'd view it as an honest mistake, everyone agreed on no-diplo right?
Since the pin was just a district placement, I'm pretty sure it was just an honest mistake, unless the random encampment out in the fog was a very cunning coded message to someone. Just be sure to doublecheck before you hit the end turn button!
I Think I'm Gwangju Like It Here
A blog about my adventures in Korea, and whatever else I feel like writing about.
I kinda missed all of this due to low activity, but to trow my 2 cents in here:
AFAIK pins are not buggy in nature. So I think someone must have put said pin on 'all', which make it does exactly that: let the pin be viewed by everyone, no matter their location relative to the pin on the map. I doubt the one with the pin had any intentions with it. I mean, it would be rather counter-intuitive to 'reveal' your location on the map right? Ofcourse, as some have argued, we know players are out there. Such a pin would however make it really easy to find a player. So yes, counter-intuitive. If it were a district pin (as I said, I missed it, but deducing this from Chevalier's post) then I doubt anyone had any diplomatic message hidden in it, other than one for himself and his teammate.
FYI, saved just reached me but will not be able to play for about 4 hours. Didn't leave my computer on so I can't remote in.
Sorry Singaboy but you won't get it until after you leave for work. |
