22 Minutos:  Tibicenas Alternate Endings Part 48

Let's hack away at this book and hope to see something other than wolves for a change!

But it won't be the case in this post.  Hiding in CHOICE #71 generates a DEATH #1.

"In a hole between the rock, you tuck yourself in as much as you can and take advantage of some thickets and small rocks so it can't see you from outside.  You know it's an error.  That if they see you, you can't defend yourself.  You're canned food, ready to eat.  But you haven't found another exit.  It is what it is.

You see a wolf jumping above your hideout.  It passes without noticing you, running around to who knows where.  Then you hear sniffing.  A second wolf is searching close by.  Your heart rapidly palpitates when you see it outside.  It seems to smile at you.

With a rapid swipe, it takes you out of your hiding place.  Its claws hammer your in your muscles, and it drags you.  It plays a bit with you before biting".

For this part, I'll leave the forest and go through the gully? (possibly "precipice") in CHOICE #72.

I leap through the rocks, and then I look below.  The wolves are sniffing around (husmear) where I was, and I take a breather when I know the wolves aren't coming.

Then the voice says "Over here.  Go over here".

CHOICE #78 at 13:41 is to either ignore the voice or look for its origin.  Picking the latter leads to the no-win route of CHOICE #77.  So let's ignore the idol!

Ignoring the voice leads to a new page at 13:42.  The idol says "Please, over here.  Go here.  Don't leave.  No.  Go here".  A few sentences later, and it says "I beg of you.  Go to the cave.  Go, please".

My character figures out the idol is talking without even a drawing of a mouth.  CHOICE #79 is to either "interrogate the idol", or leave the idol and continue fleeing.  The latter brings me to CHOICE #12, so I'll go with the former.

Trying to interrogate the idol like you'd expect in mythological fiction simply leads to DEATH #1.

"You put your ear very close to the idol, but you don't hear any better.  'I beg you.  Go to the cave.  Flee.  Flee!  The tibicenas smell me.  They're coming for me.  Flee!'

And you see them.  They're three giant wolves that are running at you.  They've surrounded you.

'I told you to flee. . .'

The first wolf jumps and bites you".

For this part, I'll go down the precipice? to find the Cave of Despair in CHOICE #70.

For once, I have a good feeling as an "agreeable wind hits you in the face".

I reach a dead end, and realize I've gone too quickly.  The rock I'm standing on is too high relative to the next one down, and the wolves are approaching.

CHOICE #80 at 13:39 is to either jump down, take a detour (dar un rodeo), or hide.

Hiding leads to a DEATH #1 we've seen before.  Jumping down generates a new ACHIEVEMENT.

I fall and bend my knees.  My entire body hits the ground.  "In the moves, it seems easy, but the fall has been brutal".  But worst of all, the idol is now broken.

ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED:  "Break the idol".

CHOICE #81 at 13:40 asks me to either check my surroundings for wolves, or run blindly away.  The 2nd option is probably our 5182nd DEATH #1.

"Your feet hurt from so much running.  You don't remember the last time you've exercised this much.  You smile, now that those thoughts are an unmistakable symptom that you're going to save yourself.  Your head isn't inside the pursuit, but lets you divulge a bit.  You laugh.

The smile freezes in your face when you hear footsteps.  Very close.  You turn around in time to see how a wolf, with open fangs, jumps on you".

EDIT:  The "examine surroundings" option for CHOICE #81 is another route to CHOICE #10.

Taking a detour in CHOICE #81 leads to our CHOICE #82 at 13:40.  I have to either hide or break out into a run.  Hiding is another DEATH #1 that I have to get out of the way.

"You know they're near.  You hear their powerful but fast steps.  You embed (encrustarse) yourself into a hole between the rocks, trusting that they won't see you from here.  Then you wait.  You try to slow your breathing and heartbeat so they won't hear you.

But it's no use.  A swipe drags you from your site.  You've been so close. . .yet so far.   The idol bolts and is frightened near you.  One of the wolves crushes it with its paw, breaking it into pieces.  The wolves laugh, howling about their victory.  And they begin to devour you".

EDIT:  The run away option in CHOICE #82 takes me back to CHOICE #78.

Time to go all the way back to CHOICE #3 and brake.  This is not a good path for the woman, as she is embedded through the glass inside and out of the car.  The wolf wastes no time in grabbing her by the neck and splitting her in two.  "The intestines keep the two halves united".

CHOICE #83 at 13:34 is to either fight to avenge the woman or flee on foot.  Taking the first option obviously leads to DEATH #1.

"You leave the car and look for something you can use to fight the wolf.  You see the fire.  There's a fire devouring an important part of the forest.  It's evident that no trees will remain.  The column of smoke is immense and reaches the sky.

But you return to reality.  The wolf is feeding on the fragments of the dead woman.  It's eating up the remains without any interest in you.  So you take advantage of it and counterattack.  There's a fallen branch close to you.  It's big, but not sufficiently so to prevent you from taking it.  You grab it, give a pair of blows to the air and test what you can wield.

You lift it above your head and let it fall, with all your strength, onto the immense wolf.  The branch splinters into 1000 pieces.  The wolf stops eating and looks at you.  It's furious.  It turns toward you".

Let's leave the car in CHOICE #83.  It goes to a short page about smelling the dead woman's blood.  CHOICE #84 at 13:35 is to either run through the field, or hide under the car.  Running is another DEATH #1.

"You run with all your strength.  You take a look behind you and the wolves are watching.  Carp, you shouldn't have looked.  Crap.  You should keep running.  Crap.  Crap.  Crap.  You listen to their steps.  Two pairs of steps.  Are there two wolves, or only 4 feet for one?  Crap.  You're not going to look.  You aren't going to do it again.

It's too dangerous.  And to top it all off (para colmo), you can only run uphill.  The ground is full of leaves.  You slip.  You grab a tree and take the impulse to continue.  And then you take a look behind you for a moment.

The wolf isn't there.  No one is following you.  You breathe a sigh of relief.  And when you look forward again, there's the wolf.  It has advanced in front of you.  It was playing with you the whole time.  But its game has ended.  It bites your arm".

Hiding under the car in CHOICE #84 brings us to CHOICE #85 at 13:36.  "Meanwhile, the terrible sound of several wolves feeding on human flesh reach you".  Then I smell smoke.

CHOICE #85 is to either run for it, or remain under the car.  Hiding generates more DEATH #1, as if we needed any more of that.  And to make matters worse, CHOICE #85 is another one where the options are reversed.  Clicking "run" takes you to the response for "hide", and vice versa.  Should I take back all the insults I said about the dodo book?  This one is worse.

"The fire is getting closer and closer.  You notice its heat.  But you remain in your hideout, hoping that everything passes.  Then an enormous snout appears.  It's smelling you and you know it's not going to stop.  It ducks and sees you.  It growls.

You drag yourself to the other side, trying to leave although there's fire.  But it's not sufficient.  An immense claw takes your leg and pulls it from you.  It rips with great force.  Something hammers you that sticks out from under the car, but the wolf doesn't care.  It continues pulling you, and a metallic file cuts into your side.  It notices your flesh opening, and the hot metal opens a path.

You scream.  But you do it because you don't know what awaits you.  The wolf bites you in the face".

In CHOICE #85, I run out from under the car despite the options being reversed, since no one seems to have edited this book.

This leads to CHOICE #86 at 13:38, which is to either continue to go through the burning forest, or "play with the wolves and go down through the precipice".

As for what hints the narration gives you:  "It doesn't seem like either option is good, but to stop here is not an option".  So much for getting even a subtle clue!

Playing with the wolves' expectations takes me to CHOICE #87 at 13:39, which is another "run or hide" decision.  Running results in CHOICE #88 at 13:40, which is to either examine whether or not the wolves are nearby, or keep running without looking.  The latter leads to a reused DEATH #1.  The former is another CHOICE #10 path.

So going back to CHOICE #87 and electing to hide gives me a drawing of a tibicena and CHOICE #89 at 13:40.  Thes options are to "run as soon as the beast leaves", or "wait huddled (agazapar) in your hideout".  Huddling is another CHOICE #10 loop.  I defy anyone to make a flowchart for 22 Minutos:  Tibicenas.

And running as soon as the beast leaves results in a short DEATH #1.

"A wolf goes past.  You hear others around you, and it seems that all are going by.  Going away from this place.  You leave your hideout and run.  You crash into a wolf that growls at you.  You try to flee, but its jaws nail your neck".

Running through the burning forest in CHOICE #86 brings me to CHOICE #90 at 13:39, and choosing to run in that is a path to CHOICE #35.  So hiding provides a new page and CHOICE #91 at 13:40 is to either hide and pray, or run when the wolf looks to the other side.  Running is another CHOICE #10.

And hiding and praying results in CHOICE #92 at 13:41:  leave the hideout, or stay inside the hole.

Staying generates DEATH #3.

"You don't believe the wolves have disappeared, although you don't hear them.  You prefer to wait a little more, although the pain is almost unbearable.  Something crosses close above your head, so you try to look.  You see an immense flaming branch falling at full speed.

It doesn't give you time to leave and its fall crushes your hideout.  You continue living, but you can't leave.  And the fire has already reached your clothes".

Our next episode of 22 Minutos will involve a brief DEATH #1.  I choose to leave the hideout in CHOICE #92, then scream for help in CHOICE #93 at 13:42.

"You scream for help but nobody answers.  You scream again, louder this time.  You notice how your vocal cords are beginning to hurt.  When you are completely sure that no one is listening, you realize in horror that it's not the case.  A wolf appears among the flames and growls.  That wolf has listened to you.  You try to run, but you're too weak.  It tosses you to the ground with a swipe and bites your jugular".

EDIT:  The other CHOICE #93 path of running in a straight line leads to CHOICE #11.
