I have had some trouble as well, which was caused by not having liked the correct League of Legends Facebook page (there are now quite a few out there and the search led me to the wrong one )

If you haven't already done it, you could try different browsers. Also make sure you have auto-login into Facebook activated while redeeming.

Thanks so much for originally linking this, Sullla. I looked at it a bit and then downloaded it and am having a blast. I was always interested in DOTA but had heard that it was really complex and had a pretty entrenched community that was hard to break into. Its nice that this game is only a year old and so there are still new people. My username on LoL is also Galileo44 if anyone cares

I'm really enjoying the game when there's a good group of people on both sides, but I'm getting really frustrated because it seems like almost every game the teams are horribly imbalanced- usually someone afks and never bothers to actually play, or dies 6 times at mid very early in the game, turning the opposing player into some sort of monstrosity midlessly rampaging across the battlefield. Just frustrating that this is happening not just every once in awhile, multiple times in a row. Am I just getting lower level nonsense since I'm at lvl 15, or is it like this even at like 25 and later?

Here's one game where it just got silly, even if it was in my favor, I was trying Lux since she was free this week-

Do not play with randoms, it is a bad idea. I try not to whenever I can.

It stays like this. I am around level 25 on my EU-account and from my experience a solo queue game is decided about 50% of the time because someone leaves/afks/ragequits turning it into a 4 vs 5.
Or - like you said - someone feeds so horribly that you don't have a chance once you hit the group fight phase.

Had a weird night last night -- after the 0/11 horror show in the 3v3, I then racked up 20 kills with Ashe in a 5v5 game. That might be the first time I've ever had 20 kills; I can't remember another occasion...

And yeah, you get some very poor players in solo queue...

I hit lvl 27 just now and my personal experience is that afking and feeding becomes a lot less of an issue the higher you get. Right now I'd estimate that less than 1/10 of the games I play with randoms are plagued by such things.

Poor team setups and lack of team play are more common, however.

After watching some of Sulla's commentaries I decided to give this game a go, and so far I am having a lot of fun (although, as someone mentioned, the games are usually decided by which team gets the quitters/newbs).

Due in some part to this, but also because it is more fun to play with people you know, I was wondering if there was anyone here who plays on the EU servers?

I used to play on the EU servers, before I realised that everyone here was on the US servers I would strongly recommend downloading the US client and playing there instead. The pings are fine for me (~200 or so).
