well, it looks like I can't possibly get IW before I get machinery, so I will start it, but @ 0% until I figure out what I want to do.
I'm leaning more towards machinery, myself, if just to make me look bigger in power

Well, I'm thinking it's irrelevant now.
that's a 19 point increase.
Could be a classical tech and 2 pop points.... or could be a wonder and 1. My guess is that it's the Oracle. We'll see...

Yeah, Machinery without Iron would really burst my bubble.
Can't see the picture. So who had the 19 point increase? Well, it would have been nice. (Assuming Oracle's gone). So then my next question: If Jowy shows up with a stack of elephants and axes which unit would defend against a sword? Or alternatively, if all his units were equally collateralled could we pick off the elephants with swords?
Those strength 4 dog soldiers aren't going to be much use against a stack are they?
If the Oracle is gone, I'd prefer construction to Iron Working for the certainty.

it was cornflakes. I fixed the pic, cause I had screwed it up. it might not be cornflakes - he is in a hot war and he's been whipping a lot.
I believe that a sword vs. elephant/axe, the elephant would almost certainly defend - presume a C2 elephant is a 9.6 defender, as opposed to a 8 defender for a C1 axe.
We would definitely need cats to beat up elephants.
I'm currently more worried about cornflakes showing up with 4 HA and a 2 impis. I don't think that's going to happen, but it's a current threat.

Ok, so assuming Oracle's gone. We didn't end up wasting any hammers did we? Just a whole lotta tech . Well you certainly settled the right city (marble vs commerce) in that event. I guess a 'what's next' discussion is in order once its confirmed.

if it went this turn, we put in 70 or hammers. I'm ok with that.
If it's gone, M*A*S*H will finish the dog it started awhile ago, then build another settler. I think the cap will go on settler/worker duty allright - it's too early to go vertical yet. I want to get so many cities... marble, pig, horse, a buffer city for M*A*S*H, the ivory city up north....
I think my next tech target is IW, in any case. Iron will be a nice production bonus wherever we find it.
or, maybe, it's alphabet and see if we can make some trades.

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP!!
Damn, I screwed up. Well, guess we'll find out if Jowy has bad intentions or not.
I can't get a defender in there that can hold off a chariot - it's not physically possible. I could kill my copper and whip in a warrior, but a warrior in a city on flatland will get eaten alive by a chariot.
I think Jowy "doublemoved" me - I am not, in any way, accusing him of being underhanded - I think he's just paying a visit and happened to move after I did last turn and before I did this turn. The problem is, i can't whip in an archer, cause I have no hammers invested.
If I had noticed him when I logged in, i could have switched to the archer, and then I would be able to whip it in. As it is, he can declare, get bounced, and then hit an empty city.
If he does that, he kills a good city, but loses 5 cpt and makes his bad intentions obvious. he can hurt me, but not kill me, and he'll have an enemy.
I think I have to turn the build in ATeam to a spear and build military all around. Very sloppy play (it is usually defense that kills me - see PBEM34s, PBEM35, PBEM42... christ... all of 'em...)
Just one damn turn of builidng an archer, and I'd be fine....
oh - yes, cornflakes got Oracle. I switched to finishing off the Dog in MASH, then will either finish the granary or build a WB for The OC.
Demos in a second.

well, I hit end turn (didn't really mean to)
I'm debating going back in, disconnecting my copper and whipping in a warrior - it can't stop Jowy from attacking, but it might discourage him.
is that ok? Jowy has gone already and there's really nothing he can do to affect anything. He logged in right after i was there, probably to see if I had a defender there.
huh - well, it's about 96% odds of winning, chariot on warrior in city. So, not that much of a help
Just too late - a turn later, and borders expand and he can't kill the city. or if I'd seen the damn chariot last night, i could have switched to an archer. Or, is that completely uncool? or if I had done what I did with NYPD Blue, and put a turn in on an archer early on, just for this situation.

and one last....
I decided not to try a warrior - it wouldn't likely work, and that would mean I couldn't build a spear. And it's a little cheesy after having hit end turn.
I know a lot of people would just kill the city. I think that if he leaves it alone, I'll whip in the archer anyway.

If I was Jowy I wouldn't hit you. I'd wait to get elephants and take all of your cities. A little opportunistic strike like that and I'd reason that we'd go into full war mode and we'd be prepared when his elephants come.
If Jowy wants to be opportunistic he can do so with or without a warrior. So good call on not whipping out a warrior and *shudder* disconnecting copper. I suspect that we'll be ok.
What's Jowy's power like?
Also, why do we want Iron Working over Construction? Now that my crossbows are gone, its not that useful right now is it?
