I think that SD is trying to be less militaristic. That said, I pretty much agree that he'll be attacking someone, and probably should have 20+ turns ago.
What I meant is that you may well be a tougher target than others. He may not realize how weak you are, but he may just assume that it's easier to go against someone else who can't whip out a bunch of cats who can defend against praets by themselves.

Another 6 prats, 1 cat to the east. I'm building a grassland mine on the river and in two turns will 2 pop whip a barracks from Pharoah (finishing library this turn). Will temporarily turn it into military as well. Ended up overflowing CivPower (shorted from here on out) into a workboat for Empire Earth. Turns out there is a clam south of the horse island I can grab with the workboat I had been building for Empire Earth from Leap Frog. Will still do the whole barracks two pop whip thing into worker next. Actually works out better this way as otherwise would have only been a 1 pop whip with almost no overflow.

Made the decision to switch Siim City from national epic to a Hwacha. Probably should have done last turn. I'm hoping to show a power spike right around the time I discover Music.
With where I ended up moving my capital Holy Rome would have been fine. If I wasn't bordering Rome, Holy Rome would have been the nuts actually. One of the main reasons I didn't take Holy Rome was the food situation and with moving my capital I had only double deer, which Holy Rome starts with hunting.
Remember when I was thinking about Korea?
Quote:Hwacha (cats) are one of the most built units that have a long shelf life, so better cat sounds great especially if Prats come calling.
How much of my safety has been tied up in just the threat of Hwachas? Will be very interesting reading SD's thread later.

Evidently he thought he was being too lenient on my as well. Came in to a fish for fish trade and I was like SWEET!. Then saw an open borders for open borders trade and 20g/turn. Pretty clear message. Money for peace. I am not in a position to say no without A) calling his bluff (which to be fair even if he is going after Lazteuq he could easily change his mind) or B) whipping my empire to the ground and lose one way or another.
200g for peace. Sigh I guess. I'll be pumping out Hwacha's from 4 cities for the next 10 turns, which will be something I suppose. Sim City will go back to epic after its current one. This does delay music by at least a turn; turning on tech next turn.
In other world news GKC declared war on Gira again. Double the power so should go well this time. Pretty evident from his GNP graph that this needs to go well. Gira played after and evidently feeling fine built church of nativity (shrine) for his like 3-4 Christian cities....... I'm new around here, but seems like a good time to launch a desperation golden age to me.

bummer, man. well, if he gets involved in a way, you can attack him in 10 turns while he's busy

I mean if he starts losing....... probably still not. The worst he can do is invade and fail. I don't think Lazteuq can push into him unless something super big happens. Ya I'm super interested if will still attack of if he built a huge army, saw Lazteuq respond with his own buildup. He had already offered several intention trades to me. Maybe he won't attack at all, but just want to justify his army without breaking his "word" to me. Who knows (well except all the general lurkers). If he is going to do something his time is running out........
it is what it is. Price I pay for a slow start and starting next to Rome. I've paid a lot of prices on that front, this is just the most straightforward. Among others I would have music right now if I hadn't had to go construction. But ya 200 gold is 1.5 turns of tech. About 330 beakers. I mean it is kind of 185 gold; I had already offered silver for 15 TOTAL gold........ So ya essentially double bribes from me now.
Mind it is nice having essentially only 1 neighbor.

Logged in this turn to a wine for stone trade from El Grillo. He had wanted stone a while back when I was still finishing Itza, so at the time I had refused. I'm surprised he wasn't able to get from Lazteuq as he has two of them.
Anyways I originally declined because I really wanted to verify SD had moved his Eastern stake and indeed he has. Lazteuq did 3 double pop whips this turn. He is 2nd I believe in power now........ I can tell since I played before SD that he would have had to have moved that stack the turn he made that demand for gold. I still don't regret it. As long as he holds to his "word" and doesn't attack me for 10 turns I am ok. If he smashes into the next most power that is GREAT. Before GKC declared on Gira it is possible he wouldn't have been able to move against me for fear Lazueq would hit him, but it would make so much sense for Lazteuq to just invade Gira if he didn't have SD breathing down his neck.
Anyways I did extend back the trade to El Grillo to give him stone seeing that SD moved his stack. I THINK it is too early for Notre Dame or I wouldn't have offered. Most likely he wants to build a whole bunch of walls to help against Plemo trying to flank. He switched his civics at end of his golden age to both vassalage and theocracy so hopefully he is going after Plemo and not Vanrober as I'm not ready to take my slice yet. He definetely has a backstab problem if he was to move against someone else from Plemo. GKC must feel confident that Plemo isn't going to backstab him. All interesting stuff. Anyways assuming it will help against Plemo I did the trade. Sim City was also due to grow into unhappy as I'm bribing away 1 of my silver and trading another for marble. Also, don't have my spice yet to trade around.
Went ahead with my planned two 2 pop whips for barracks. I don't want to have to keep paying in 10 turns. Although hopefully he gets involved into a bloody mess and doesn't just steam-role.

It seems pretty unlikely he can conquer someone with praets in 10 turns. I mean, they are fine, but unless his target is Gandhi, it takes time to walk them in and heal them when they have been wounded.

Oh I know. I am just REALLY REALLY hoping he attacks Lazteuq either this turn or next. Otherwise he might see me get music and come a knocking.
El Grillo must have something planned he logged in after I had played my turn and then he just posted something. Evidently the stone deal was key somehow or other. I have to hope it involves Plemo. Again that is the best chance anyone has this game. I don't think I've mentioned it but I have research visibility on Plemo atm. He is saving gold for machinery. Going for research visibility on El Grillo next. Side bonus to building a couple of courthouses.
Vanrober is about to settle a city bordering El Grillo, but again, just have to hope the two giants knock each other around a bit.

Traitorous bastard. I logged in and found myself at war. Logged out without changing anything.
How many fish for fish and cow for cow and bloody take my gold ect and then immediately go back on his word!!!!
Regret trading away stone now.......... He must have circled his stack around the western side of the little Lake.
Sigh my game is over win or lose this war. Really wish I could have changed tech, but I didn't of course. Not even sure longbows are going to be enough anyways and machinery is too far away. Do I finish music just for the golden age? Seems fine I guess since I'll have a turn of tech in it anyways.
I'm never trusting a trade with SD again that is for sure.
Edit: Should I war / peace El Grillo? He could take the island city I suppose, but I don't know if that matters. Cheap walls though........
Edit x2: Gira is probably dead. I'm assuming Lazteuq will go that way rather than attack SD.
