That happened to me too! I ended up trading it for a common life spell. I already had unicorns, prayer, planar travel, stream of life, and most common life spells.

Yes, Arcane spells now follow generic spell research rules, meaning Summoning Circle has the exact same chance of appearing as any other Common spell you can research. So if you have 15 commons, you might find it as your 15th research only.
This isn't any different from before though, the difference is, research now classifies 5 Arcane spells as commons instead of 3.
However, it not appearing before the uncommons is definitely a bug. Maybe the rarity list is off by one spell? If yes, that makes Summoning Circle uncommon instead of Disenchant Area.

Edit : tried to reproduce but it appears during common research for me. I don't understand how you got 4 uncommons to appear before it, at most you get 2 as "guaranteed uncommon" picks at the beginning, after that only commons should be able to show up until there are none of them left.

Apart from the potential bug with it being in the wrong order, is there an argument to having it available to research for everyone at the start?

As it is arcane there is no way of starting the game with it and it can make getting a magic spirit across the map really time consuming and it makes defending new cities a lot harder. Also I can imagine it really damaging the AI if they don't get it for a long time.

On another note, I started a new game and I'm having the opposite problem to last time. I'm the only wizard on Myrror and it is far too easy. Also there were no neutral towns on Myrror at all, so Draconian is the only Myrron race in the game. I am playing a tiny map.

Edit: I realised that the difficulty level had gone back to the default of normal after I got the latest patch, so that might explain being alone on Myrror.

Does anyone else find cathedrals overpriced at 400?

The parthenon is half the price and has the same unrest reduction and only generates 2 less power than a cathedral. Also it unlocks priests.

Wizards guild cost 600 but you get 10 power, 3 research and unlock magicians one of the best units in the game.

Could cathedrals reduce unrest by 2 instead?

I disagree. Getting the exact same thing, from another source, normally costs you more the second time around. Its not a linear increase.

Personally, I think parthenon is actually underpriced, when compared with the shrine. It should be 240 (but I'd round that to 250). The cathedral, at 400, is correctly priced when compared with the shrine; however, if you increased the parthenon, you should increase the cathedral to 480 (but I'd round that to 500).

But, there are races that cannot get the shrine; and those same races cannot get priests. So increasing the parthenon isn't really a good idea. So leave parthenon at 200. That brings cathedral back to being compared to shrine (since the cathedral requires it, we know you will always be getting the same thing, so it should cost more), which makes 400 a good price.

The shrine is 120 and gets you 1 unrest reduction and 2 power and access to shamans
The cathedral is 400 and gets you 1 unrest reduction and 6 power and no new units

So I'd say it is worth around double what a shrine is worth, but costs over 3 times as much.

Instead of adjusting costs, I'd switch the access to priests from parthenon to cathedral.

Pros:
*Cathedral brings in mind catholic places of worship with priests present. Parthenon seems a bit out of place.
*Priests are rather advanced units to come from a low-cost income building
*All races that have access to priests also have access to cathedral, thus no special adjustments needed.
*Cathedral will be well worth the price for certain races, while parthenon still brings great benefits for just 200

Problem is that cathedral is too expensive for dealing with corruption; and races that get priests don't get shamans. Priests have to have their access from a relatively early building in case you face early chaos opponents.

And I'd say that a cathedral is worth around 3 times a shrine (remembering that I believe parthenon to be undercosted). So I guess, I agree a little, you could round it down to 350, but if you made it worth 2 unrest reduction, it would be worth about 500.

Fair enough. Out of interest how do you make a cathedral worth 3 times a shrine when the unrest reduction (one of the most important parts) is the same?

Next question. What is the difference (if any) between the attack of a 4 figure unit with 4 swords and a 1 figure unit with 16 swords?

Are the 4 figure attacks 4 separate attacks that a blocked individually or do they just add up and attack as one big hit?
