More Final Fantasy

That screenshot is more or less the reason why I hate the various Final Fantasy remakes of old games. The Japanese designers were imagining... *THAT* androgynous man-toy when they created characters like Cecil. Fortunately, because the graphics were relatively primitive, you just had a basic little sprite and then used your imagination to fill in the details (a much better way of creating character details IMO). Here's more or less how I pictured Cecil:

Muscular bad-ass who gets shit done. That's the kind of avatar I want to be imagining myself into! nod These new games... eeesh. A good example of how greater graphics allowing the game's designer to realize their own vision more fully - isn't always a good thing!

EDIT: Also never had time to comment on T-Hawk's necromancer game. Really, really impressed with the whole thing. If anyone hasn't had the time to read it, make some time. Great stuff.

lol I have nothing more to really say them. However, the picture I posted was Cecil. I can not see who you can look like paladin Cecil like that. The crappy face sprite alone would show that the first picture is closer to the truth. And 95%+ gamers like better graphics.

Honestly even on the status screen for all characters in the original SNES FF4 he looks like a pretty boy, not a D1 Warrior. I mean, seriously: muscular badass with long white hair? smoke

...No, wait. Nevermind. lol
(To be honest I actually kind of like Cecil as he is.)

You mean this character portrait?

It's a guy wearing a cloak with a hood. And that's all it shows. Remember, your character sprite looks like this the rest of the time: [Image: Cecil2.gif] Honestly, do those sprites really look any closer to Square's concept art than they do to the D1 Warrior? I don't think so, myself. You're just a generic fighter in armor. All the disgusting pretty boy/effeminate stuff was added in later remakes and retcons of the game.

Seriously, screw you Amano and your androgynous character designs. nono

The first sprite's face is really smooth. And has long flowing hair. He's a freaking white-haired pretty boy. But know I can understand you. You really do not see that sprite often. So in this case it is not the only way to look at Cecil. However, it is clearly the strongest way to look at Cecil. Even without better graphics you would see how Cecil really looks like with Ads if a game like this was done thesedays. Most people really hate athours make this unclear so they can view characters the way they like. Most people find that to be total BS because you can not look at real people like that. It makes fiction unreal and hard to relate to.

Uhhh, I pretty clearly see, on both the sprite and the portrait, long, flowing white hair. The Fighter sprite also has this hairstyle, although it's red. Never thought that Cecil is supposed to be wearing a hood there. Given that it's Japan we're talking about, those kinds of hairstyles in fiction aren't weird.

I really do think that that Cecil's supposed to look like a, well, white-haired handsome male heart, and it plays up to the idea of him being a pure paladin, kind of a knight in shining armor (while Diablo is dark fantasy, and the Warrior looks like the kind of guy belonging to a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay table - tough guy who gets stabbed by a rusty pitchfork at the first opportunity and dies of cholera a few game sessions later; and the Warrior didn't exactly have a great fate coming for him), but the thing is that some of those images really look ridiculous. Here, Cecil appears to be wearing lipstick. But here, he doesn't look half-bad. Or on this fanart. He looks rather fierce on this FMV as well. And I like him here.

And, regardless, Cecil is a badass anyway.

Yeah, it definitely does. I started playing another variant (not a solo) where lots of daggers are involved, and had to run through some math that proved it. One of the faqs says how it can be fixed in the SNES version, which I mistook that it only exists there.

As for the metrosexual discussion, Bartz himself is pretty bishounen too in out-of-game artwork. I'll spare posting any pictures for those who want to preserve your mental image of him, but I wish I could undo my last few minutes of google image searching. cry

Anamo's artwork is not really followed well. I over did it a little frown The Dissidia artwork of him would show what he would really look like in a modren game. I don't think he looks that bad but he is still a pretty boy (not that pretty!).

The younger one is for Japan and the older one is for the rest of the world. Google Neir for details about what happened. smile
