[Spoilers] Peace and Purity - Einion Logos of the Elohim

Quote:Not that great. Average damage of snowfall is 40% and only 2 units got more damage than 20%. Oh well, the stack moves back into my land until next turn, while I scorch one of the ice tiles so my city doesn't starve (the ice will disappear naturally eventually, might as well lessen the food loss until then)

One of the more overlooked aspects of combat promotions is that they increase spell damage. With combat 0, Snowfall won't be all that impressive.

That's true, but putting Combat promotions on a 0 strength unit? Kinda pointless. (granted, you don't put combat promotions on arcane units for strength, but still)

What I might instead is put Metamagic promotions on him, which give the same increase to spell damage as Combat promotions while giving more spells. In this battle though, pretty much all my units have Demon slaying and since I have plenty of time thanks to Sanctuary I can pretty much delay as long as I want.

BTW, it seems that T150 is next turn, so I guess I should give another overview. Instead of reviewing every city which I did recently, I might just go through my current plans instead.

Quote:Dude, we left hell because its cold and now you go and dump all that snow on us? Now Hyborem has a bad case of the sniffles ;-). Its fairly obvious I can't stop your stack, so this is a feeler e-mail to see what, if anything, I can do to not go back to hell. On the table:

1. Long term NAP.
2. Helping out agasint Thoth.
3. Moving my capital to Thoth's lands and gifting you Dis.
4. Yummy, tasty toads. They go great with Ale.
5. I dunno...any thoughts?

P.S. I've copied the two teams I've had contact with so they can tell you what a swell guy I've been and how useful my Iron is.

Quote:I didn't think it was that cold in hell (well except in Mulcarn's hell obviously, but you existed in Agares's where Bhall lives). If you demons can't handle a slight chill then I'm surprised you invaded Erebus in the first place. wink

Getting back on topic, since you invaded me as soon as you spawned and forced me to cast my worldspell to prevent losing any cities, I'm afraid I can't let you live for that. I can capture the toads for myself and as for Thoth, Sanctuary prevents you from reaching him in any reasonable time frame. I'm sorry for eliminating you so shortly after you joined the game, but you've left me no choice.

Plus after I capture Dis I can finally use Tolerant, something which I've been waiting to use all game and I'm not going to wait any longer for it. I'll go over a few... interesting ways I've thought of using Tolerant during the turn report.

Quote:Err...I guess one last thing. I am running an engineer hoping to get a GE and steal the Infernal Grimoire from Thoth. Up to you but it might be a good idea to wait until my GP is born. You'll either get an Academy or the tome.

Darrell

Hmmm, if he steals the Infernal Grimiore from Thoth, then I'm willing to let him until then (academy isn't worth the 3 turn wait IMO, not sure what tome is but I'm not that interested in any wonders he can build). Sadly loading up the save confirms that Thoth has already built the Grimiore, so it's go time.

Better results from Snowfall this time around. And the result was inevitable:

Hyborem was a tough cookie, but loosing 2 unpromoted monks was worth it. Note the adepts, I tried to give them some battle experience, and now all 3 that bought have enough experience to upgrade into a mage (highlighted is the one that finished Hyborem a second time and has enough experience for an archmage. He will definitely be an Eater of Dreams one day). Definitely worth getting sorcery sometime soon.

Anyway, let's see what I captured:

You can see those toads, which count as a free AH resource doubled by a smokehouse. I'll try and avoid Sanctifying that tile to keep the extra health. The Ice will wear off in 3-9 turns, I'll scorch it into Tundra for the time being.

The units I can build look a lot different than usual. wink I'm sending an acolyte here ASAP to bring the city out of revolt to start my new palace. I also forgot that I can build regular Assassins here (since I can't build Elohim specific UU/UB's in captured cities I can build Assassin's instead of Devouts) which might be useful against the Sheaim.

Sadly Thoth built the Infernal Grimiore, which I can only assume will be for Malevolent Designs (will find out next turn I guess). Mardero, Eidolons and Beast of Agares are all powerful Demons that are all enabled at that tech.

As for the interesting counter to them... thanks to Tolerant all units that get built out of Dis get the Demon promotion which makes them immune to Unholy Damage. All three units that get enabled at Malevolent Designs (plus Stygian Guards, another Demon unit Thoth has) have a decent amount of unholy strength that won't work on demons. An idea that I had is since I'm running Order, I can build Crusader's out of Dis (once I get rid of the AV presence and get a Order temple in there) and since they start with Demon I can deprive them of a decent amount of strength. Sure they probably won't be able to kill them by themselves, but they're the best third tier counter i can think of.

Crusader's are like monks, only they lose a movement to get a bonus Holy strength, and have a bunch more pre-req's than monks. In this situation though, I can't build monks out of Dis (Elohim UU) so Crusader's will have to do. I can even get Demon Paladin's (!) eventually if I want to but first let's stick to non-limited units.

I built that Temple last turn for you lol.

I'm going to have to Inquisition it out shortly, but thanks nonetheless. wink

Opened the save to be greeted by nyktorion asking for my Enchantment mana. Sadly he claims that it would be in exchange for the body mana he just lent me, except that I already gave him water mana for that. banghead Hopefully we can sort this hiccup out quickly.

Anyway, time to quickly talk about my arcane plan:

Highlighted are my 3 high exp adepts (and Corlindale for good measure). I'm thinking I'll promote my 36 exp adept to Maelstrom & combat promotions (Maelstrom for another collateral spell, combat for spell damage and possible future summoning), while the other two probably take regeneration and Dispel Magic. Corlindale might take Dispel too, if only for the spell damage boost. Sadly I doubt I'll get many other adepts promoted enough for mobility and a spell but if I can it'll probably be for Slow or Rust. It's not much, but if I wanted to focus on magic I'd be arcane.

Only 2 noteworthy things happened this turn:

Another metal pop! I'm pretty sure that's my 4th one without Earth mana. Not complaining of course, but wow I'm lucky.

Resource screen shows Thoth gets 738gpt, while I only have 370gpt. Even though he's in a GA and he's busy upgrading units with that gold, that's quite a large lead. Just have to hope that most of it is the GA.

I'm heading to Bowyers now since some cities are at the happy cap and since I can't whip I need to draft to prevent myself from wasting food unnecessarily. Said draftees could be pretty useful against Heisenburg.

So, this morning I'm greeted by this:

Quote:Hey all, just a quick question. I was talking with Thoth the other
day about NAPs, and he mentioned this: "My current agreements preclude
me from owning the world before turn 210". I take it that means the
coalition is off? Should I go ahead and sign an NAP myself with him,
then? What's going on?

- Mardoc

nyktorion and Heisenburg have both already responded in the same manner.

I'm annoyed at Thoth, because our NAP was supposed to be confidential. True, he didn't explicitly state that he had a NAP with me, but he said enough to Mardoc for him to suspect that something was up which IMO is the same as breaking it. Now I've got to try and figure out how I want to respond.

Ain't he a nice chap?

You can respond truthfully - 'He tries to spread discord' without going into any more details. Whatever happens, don't admit to anything, if the whole thing goes bellyup it's better to have everyone suspect everybody else than other three ganging up on you with Toth's help.

But yeah, this is not acting up within spirit of the deal and if people figure out it's you, you should consider all deals off with him in fault.
