Football Manager 2010 SG talk

Good job Dantski (and Ichabod) for another promotion!

Please don't make any decisions about jobs until tomorrow at the earliest - I have my final exam tomorrow & want a really good look at the save after that so I can look at jobs/good players.

Charlton sounds decent at first thought.

Dantski, shame on you for being so lazy, 4 days early indeed!

But seriously congrats on the promotion. I'll have a poke around on the save and look at what's there both job and player wise. I won't play on.

Just an additional note.

Our reputation is still regional only (some managers outside of the football league have higher!), so I'm not sure how that affects our success in applying for bigger jobs. I feel like we should have at least national rep. after a 2nd successive promotion.

During my turnset I did see a couple of decent African Nations need new managers, notably Nigeria and possibly S.Africa? (hard to recall) So its possible we could go that route if we don't see a good club to move to in the nxt 6 months

Just a note, our promotion won't be noted until the season turn over, so any reputation changes will hold over until then.

I've had a look at the game, no moving on or anything just nosing around. So my impressions are:
1) Our squad is really tight, and our best players are not really improving either.
2) Most of the clubs looking at our players are our level or slightly higher, so it'll be easier to hold onto them, barring the board accepting offers.
3) There's few jobs around at the moment, and unlikely to be more until November/December:

4) A list of players whose contracts are up soon worth checking out, sorted by attribute I found them by (forgot to get positions):

Pace
Jonathan (Riera) 24 Real Alcala
Dan French 25 Oldham
Ollie Child 31 Leicster
James Thorpe 25 Millwall
Paul Foster 26 Peterboro

Value
Juan Carlos 29 Las Palmas
Mauro Fernandes 29 Independiente

These two should be definitely good enough, as they're holding their value despite almost out of contract. Fernandes (or ...dez) though is a work permit issue and looking for £3.8k per week.

Strenght
Danny Berger 23 QPR
Craig Kirby 24 Doncaster

Crossing
Alan O'Connor 31 AEK Athens
Andrew Neal 28 Swansea

Finishing
Ivan Anyau 26 Dordrect
R. van der Welt 35 Depor
Both have WP issues as non EU, but v.d.Welt is strong otherwise

Passing
D Cruz Vicente 34 Stade de Reims
Mathis Barthelemy 33 Leeds
Pedro Jose (also marking and tackling) 31 Celta 2k per week
F.C. Gaba Guy 23 Celta WP

Marking
Mick Mirzai 29 Watford (needs scouting)
John Hawksworth 19 M'boro (we had him).

Anyone marked WP will have issues with work permit. Those in Italics are worth getting in if we can, in addition to Carlos and Fernandes (wages in the last two). Pedro Jose and Danny Berger look the best.
As I didn't sim on I didn't have full stats on all players, but the ones that looked the most likely to improve the team are mentioned (well without looking at everyone). All players are out of contract in June.

Thoughts
Overall I don't think there is that much there to go for at the moment wrt to jobs. Charlton is the juiciest, and we'll get none of the international jobs (FM11 is a lot harder for international jobs without nationality or huge reputation). But there may be a few up in June (unlikely IMO) and there will be bigger fish come November/December. So I'd say stay for now and if a big job comes where we're in with a shout jump ship.

P.S. I'm discounting the Wolfsburg job as it's too high for us. Worth chancing if it comes up though.

Looking at the situation in the save briefly I think I may have to reassess our plans.

Dantski is correct that our reputation is still regional and that is going to stop us from getting any jobs which are much of an improvement over what we have, so we may have to stick around for another 6-12 months at least.

We aren't 'big' enough for the Charlton job yet most likely (or at least not enough to declare interest and get them sacked) so we may as well stick with what we have. Apply for any and all international jobs which come up though, as it will boost our reputation massively if we manage to secure one and that is what we need.

Maybe the rep will improve on league reset day when we become a L1 manager with 2 promos on our back, but I am not sure at all.

It'll go up somewhat, but I don't know by how much. Our form was good but not stellar throughout the season so we won't have picked up much game by game. I'll look around the SI forums to see if there's anything on reputation formulae.

edit: could see nothing concrete, I could holiday to July 1st though.

I'll take a look at the save tonight. I don't mind sticking with Wimbledon. It'll be impossible to get the promotion to the championship, but I don't see us being relegated too, if we can add a little depth to the squad.

Like Dantski said, our strikers had a very, very bad year. Chicharito was injured for a long time and he missed a lot of chances. If they start to play a little better, the team will definetly improve. And we can always go to other club during the season, if we get the opportunity.

Maybe we should make a sim just to see the transfer and wages budget for next season. If I remember correctly, there's a lot of not so good players with expiring contracts in our team, so we'll have room for some signings. The best players have contracts until the end of next season, so it's not that worrisome.

So as regards the contract, we've 2 for and 2 undecided (though I believe the undecideds are more don't mind).

If I get some more input (yay or nay) on this I'll start the game tomorrow and see what I can get.

Hey guys,

I played on the save for a bit, to try and find some players and other things. I signed the contract with Wimbledon and we'll have 42,5 p/w for wages (currently is 25k) + 80k for transfers. I managed to get the Job of Manager for Congo, so it's definetely possible to manage a national squad.

I have some players to post too.

Well sticking with Wimbledon seems like the only feasible move right now so sign the contract. If we can pinch something like the Congo managership then even better
