WW37- For Whom the Bell Trolls

@Matt, because I think it's an important question that needs to be asked, so that if you die tonight, we know that either you failed to use it on yourself, or you were killed by someone with the ability to surpass it, like the strongarm a couple of games back. Good to know I have your trust though.

If you play antitown you get lynched. I take your death as "suicide by proxy" to the notes.

I absolutely recommend doing that.

Oh that's right, we don't learn anything at all about abilities when people flip. I guess we can debate until the end of the game whether Goreripper was lying, then. smile

Gore flip was right move in the end, I think. Him saying that he has more sympathy to scum than town, especially when he clearly plays better with town, and openly stating that he'll withhold scum scans means he's definitely worth killing off. Certainly better than no-lynching.

Gazglum, the reason I voted you was because you seemed to be switching on and off on a whim - as Pindicater said, it looked like you were just tossing shit around to see where it sticked. Sure, Zaks voted a lot, but each time I got a sense of where it was coming from and why he was leaving the other wagon. Your votes...seem to have less weight around them, and some of the flavor-fun you bring feels a bit forced as well.

@Bob: Had Goreripper lived, would there have been any penalty for his quoting his PM? Similarly, will any penalty hit Matt for doing the same (to a lesser extent)?

The answer to the Goreripper question is in the lurker thread.

Mattimeo will not be punished.

Enough that you'd prefer what you consider a seer to die first? If you think Comm would play ball with town, then this doesn't make sense.

Matt definitely shouldn't say whether or not he can self target. The limited benefit to knowing how he died is far outweighed by the help it gives to scum on either letting them kill our jailer or knowing not to target him.

Back from work now and basically exactly this. wtf Gazglum - you vote Novice because he's attacking a seer that says he's going to help the town, so novice is anti-town for that - as you said:

(March 16th, 2015, 16:48)Gazglum Wrote: Commogore is a seer that can catch scum. Novice wants him dead. That's why I voted Novice.

but when you have a chance to save the same seer who you say can catch scum, this is what you reply:

(March 16th, 2015, 17:00)Gazglum Wrote: Because I think matt is town?

Which is it - did you think Commodore was going to play ball with town or not? You gave some pretty strong leanings that you thought Commodore was acting in kind and playing ball at the end of the day -- in fact, those seemed to be some of the strongest town reads you gave all day. And where were the Mattimeo town reads if that's what you thought he was? It's not like there was a last minute bandwagon on him; he was getting heat all day. But there's a single line of how he reads "more invested" this game than last and every other post is back to commenting about Commodore.

This smells all kinds of scummy like you really wanted Commodore to go but didn't want to get your hands dirty to do it; so you're going to just sit back and let it go bad. Maybe you really did think Commodore was going to help the town and that's what convinced you to stay on novice.

Goreripper's flip wasn't ideal (ie scum), but still a net positive for town. Though I doubt the scum would be too heartbroken over seeing a claimed seer die.

Going back through day 1,

Trying to find someone to actually vote for.

After this, no more posts from dtay - could be scum happy to see Mattimeo lynched without wanting to explain his position. It would be a particularly bold way to go about it however given that he reappeared specifically to promise a little more action from himself.

Maybe it's just me? I'm not sure how this is a net positive? We didn't kill scum and we killed someone who was immune to scum night killing and could out scum? I feel like I'm living in some bizarro world.

No, I definitely agree. This was a jump we did not want to take, and his role should've been helpful to the town.

The reason why I think it was the right decision in the end was the way Goreripper was approaching it, which made me think that he intended to help the town only intermittently and entirely on a whim, and even carrying with it strong suggestions that he'd deliberately aid scum. But it's certainly not clear-cut.
