I hate to sound overly upset here, but the more and more I read the more it is looking like he only came out and said something because he was afraid he was about to get caught.
-Editing screenshots?
-We find out right as lurkers start getting suspicious?
Thanks lurkers and Woden for finding this cheat.

I don't think I want Mike to continue to play this game. His actions were pretty outrageous and he robbed our team of the religion we deserved. He was fully aware of it and yet, continued to cover his actions with edited screenshots.
As others pointed out, he only came out to 'admit and repent' when it was pretty obvious that he would be exposed anyway.
I would think, that Japper could take over Mike's role until we might find someone else. This would also keep the game pace going as time zone issues wouldn't crop up.

Edited screenshots? Now that is covering it up as well.
I think every player as well as me got a pm spoiling us further then already done.
This is a mess and we might be better off, restarting this.

I'm an impartial observer, but I'll lend a voice.
I think this game is best off just being abandoned and restarted. There's no equitable fix. Everything that happens from here on would be tainted. There will always be more hurt feelings and suspicions, and any eventual winner will still be plagued by might-have-been hypotheticals and excuses. More bad than good is likely to come from continuing.
Let it go and start fresh. Games aren't a scarce resource. There's always more. There's no need to incur angst over a damaged one. I've learned that myself. Sometimes I get unhappy with how a game is playing out but also unhappy about throwing away the invested effort. But it always turns out right to write off the sunk cost and get going on what I really want to do instead. The game didn't go bad at the point of decision; it went bad a long time ago; you just didn't know it yet.
Anger and revenge is the worst reason to stay in a relationship. When it's not working out, there's always other fish in the sea.

If the decision is made to re-start it wouldn't be all that difficult to do so on a similar map ... i.e. same overall layout and geography, different specifics and terrain. Rather than hand crafting the entire thing I created a script, rolled it a couple of times, and picked the one I liked best. Sure some of the allure of exploration is gone, and it's a bummer this game couldn't make full use of the map, but I still think there's a good game to be had on a similar map.
I'd even consider filling the vacant spot ... if nobody else came forward and a 3rd party could be recruited to roll the map and make the finishing touches.

I am more and more coming over to restarting this fresh, it seems to be a real knottted brunch of rope, every time we pull out something it just shows more problems to be solved. Solving this mess seems to be more trouble than just restarting.
I also personally feel that whatever I do, my further actions in this particularly game are tainted by what my teammate did. I really liked this setup and would love to be able to start again with a different teammate on my side.

Maybe we can listen to the suggested actions by the lurkers and then make a decision to restart or continue. If we start again, do we have the same teams and nations (I would suggest to do that)? Would Cornflakes be the replacement for Mike?

I'd also suggest if we start again with similar setup (Maybe each team can keep their nations, but could opt for other nations, that are available if they wish to do so), it would be important NOT to read the other team threads even after abandoning the game. It would give away the strategy too much I feel.

I agree with Singaboy,
-avoid the threads
-we will all stick with same teams, replacements get first pick of new civs
-we can all swap out in initial pick order if we want
-lets get this started soon if we can guys
-sooner we put this game behind us the better

I don't have a strong preference either way, though I lean weakly towards starting a new game - there are some things that can't be rolled back, Khmer's illegal moves caused changes in other players' behaviors that wouldn't otherwise have happened, finding a replacement to take over the compromised Khmer position will be more of a challenge than a fresh start, and so on. I'm also okay continuing this one, though, if that's what everyone else prefers.
I also think Singaboy's suggestion is a good one, although I was really looking forward to digging through more Sullla Civ 6 posts. That's the reason I found this website, after all.
