I want to bring up the idea of calling it quits. I have little motivation of making Dreylins conquest miserable, with Christmas being close by and all that.
I would be happy to crown Dreylin the winner. mh

I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

How does a HD say it is about to fail ... apart form making those nice grinding noises.
BTW - Once had a work colleague that that was new to computers (don't ask me how long ago this is) and I dropped over to help her with something. She opened an excel file and her HD made some very very bad noises. I said "how long has it been making that noise?" She said "A couple of months". I contacted IT and got her a new hard drive that afternoon. She didn't know that noises like that were not normal.

It reports a SMART event. Apparently that means that something in the Hard Disk's physical properties or performance that is being monitored has started to deteriorate, and that a failure is likely in the future.
No weird grinding noises so far.... Still backing up ... slowly (the periodic system lock-ups aren't helping). Computer is still in warranty though, so a new HD is on the way. |
