Can it be farmed without removing the marsh? I thought it had to be removed before a farm could be built! If it can be farmed without removing the marsh, then I agree!

(I know what I'm doing, I'm not a complete Civ6 noob, I promise. well, maybe that's not true)

Yes, rice can be farmed without clearing the marsh and is quite a nice tile, especially with all the plains hills at your capital (but I don’t think regular non-resource marsh tiles can be farmed without first clearing the marsh).

With three good tiles to improve you might consider builder before settler (if you will have the tech to build the improvements) depending on how good the tiles are around the 2nd city. Plenty of time yet to see what you find while the warrior is finishing and then decide.

Thanks, good to know! Yes, definitely a 5f tile is better than making a second 4f one

I almost certainly will not have the techs to improve them all early enough to go builder before settler. Each improvement is its own tech - AH for deer, Mining for marble, Pottery for farming. I do believe that settler before builder is likely to be better - but of course, keeping an open mind for now

Still no coast in sight, but I found yet another continent, along with a barb scout

I've been experimenting in SP with ignoring harbours and beelining Currency, and it seems to work ok. I get there with 6 techs researched (Pottery / AH / Mining / Irrigation for builder, then Writing and Currency), so the districts don't get prohibitively expensive. Of course, it's better to take advantage of unique districts, which are half price, but can't do much when the map says no

I can't remember if you could see which way the rivers are flowing (to find the sea)?

Yes, it's flowing west, that's how I picked direction for the warrior to follow

A step further west reveals a barb encampment

I don't see much benefit in fighting barbs pre-Discipline, nor in continuing to follow the river into the southern tundra. Instead I step back, and will go NE next turn

Moving north reveals more luxes, tea and truffles

CMF was way more generous with luxes than map generator is lol

Foggazing suggests that the tiles to the west of the scout are still desert, so I will continue NE for now. Trying not to move too far away from London for now, in case I need to return for barb defence

FOR THE RECORD, the only resources I added were strategics within each civ's "sphere of influence." So you're guaranteed to have horses & iron, and later niter & coal, within a reasonable distance. But luxuries are entirely up to the whim of the gods of map generation.

Oh! In a dozen test games I played, I never had 5 different luxes so close to the start
