Actually, Saladin's global jihad would be more PC than the Crusades of Richard the Lionheart, which is closer to what any of our wars would be!

I'm fine with normal speed and standard map. Just a suggestion: my PC used to have a hard time with large maps until I turned the graphics level in-game to low. Now it still goes slow in the late-game, but it's tolerable.

I'm not sure we want to go with raging barbs though, not if we want to make sure of getting to Monotheism first. With raginng barbs we'd have to emphasize archery and bronze-working more, making it hard to get to Monotheism.

Here's my preferences (but I'm flexible): normal speed, standard map size, preferably not raging barbs for this variant, but I'd like to see them stay on if that's alright. Anyways, like I said I'm flexible, so whatever works for me really!

What about continents v. Pangaea v. Lakes v. Great Plains v. Inland Sea?

I think my preference would be with Continents or Pangaea

Anybody has any clue how religion spreads on these different map types?
That what you say, is important. That what you do, is more important. But the most important of all, is that what you achieve.

I think lakes would be pretty fun. That, or pangea with water level set at high (tends to create bottlenecks and occassionally little islands/peninsulas).

I'm actually kind of interested in having raging barbs...if we picked which AI civs we were playing against & made sure few (if any) were spiritual, then we should have no problem founding Judaism & Christianity.

Your thoughts?

That would make us pretty sure to found Judaism, but not Christianity. The starting with mysticism advantage wears off by that point.

Doesn't raising the water level reduce land area, also?

That depends on how we play. Generally speaking, when I play a spiritual civ, I almost always build Stonehenge and The Oracle. Either one will at the very least start to work on a great person which will definitely be a great prophet (which will happen faster since we are philosophical). The Oracle will also provide us an oppurtunity to discover Theology and found Christianity. By starting off spiritual and aggressively researching with a clear plan, we should have no problem founding Christianity first...if we are the only spiritual civ.

As far as the water level goes, yes it will reduce the land area, but not too much. What it really does is create a more unpredictable land-to-water-border. So instead of a "round" pangea, it's more of a very unpredictably shaped one. Start a couple of pangea games with high water level, then access the wordbuilder to take a look at the whole map & you'll see what I mean. thumbsup

Clovis -- What kind of terrain did you have in mind...rocky, arid, tropical, etc.?

Thanks, Antoninus! Just FYI though, Steve Buschemi was Mr. Pink. wink
