RBP3 [SPOILERS] National Pastime (Rapoleon_Hi of the Aztecs)

Ruff_Hi Wrote:Here is a question for the lurkers ... what if I spend time and effort and discover that wonders and tech races go to the civ that has invested the most hammers / beakers instead of what is commonly accepted here (its a coin flip). Obviously, this is a pure game mechanic ... but is it something that should be shared with the other players in pitboss #3? Should it be shared at all on Realms Beyond - a #3 player could be a lurker on #1 or #2?

And support your opinion because I am thinking of adding a clause to my LCoC regarding this.
You can't take responsibility for updating the entire community on how a game mechanic works. So you're free to keep it to yourself, and/or ask your lurkers to keep mum.

Some precedents:

* Sullla asked his lurkers to keep certain C&D mechanics to themselves in RBPB2.

* In PBEM1, someone misunderstood some air combat mechanics. It's not like the other players can be blamed for that.

* Trade routes is another oft-misunderstood game mechanic.
I have to run.

Everyone here considers it as 'addressed'. I know of 1 other person who thinks otherwise. I am currently chasing that up to see why they think that. So, the question is ... if I prove that the commonly accepted idea is wrong, should it be shared or do I get to keep it all to myself (for a fixed amount of time) as payment for discovering that it is wrong.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

errr - they did? You know that I am playing in that game don't you? Guess I will have to ask about air combat information in pbem1.

And thus, you can see how easy it is to provide spoiler information lol. Not much spoiler information ... but still slightly spoiler smile.

You misunderstood what I meant re: tiebreaker. For example Lord Parkin and I got to communism the same turn in a game and he CLEARLY had a runaway lead in terms of BPT, but I got the spy. Either it's weighted, or tiebreakers are a true coin flip. If you don't want to risk it, just work the commerce tile, the variance isn't huge.

I'd try to explain myself but I guess that will just make matters worse. Terribly sorry.

I promised myself that I wasn't going to do any stat number crunching ... well, I broke that promise already ...

My civ has 5.88% of the world's population. Thus the world has a population of 17 ... and I have 1. That works.

My civ has 0.22% of the world's land tiles. 9 tiles in total, implying a land tile count of 4091. This is a huge map, so expect the grid sizes to be in the order of 20 by 12 (or there abouts, changes by map script with the larger dimension typically being 1.6 the smaller - 1.3 for Great Plains but there is no way Sullla used that as the starts are way unbalanced).

A 20 x 12 map size is 20 * 4 * 12 * 4 = 3840 - too small
A 21 x 13 map size is 21 * 4 * 13 * 4 = 4368 - 6.3% water
A 22 x 14 map size is 22 * 4 * 14 * 4 = 4928 - 17% water

To get a map that is 50% water, the dimensions would have to be 29 x 19 ... no map script is that big (then again, Speaker has recently been playing with the battleground script so he has shown some map script editing abilities ... and Speaker and Sulllla are a team in #2 ... so ... ) which means that there isn't much water on this map ... lol at the Vikings and Dutch (and other water based UU, UB civs out there).

for ref ...
Code:
Great Plains
    grid_sizes = {
        WorldSizeTypes.WORLDSIZE_HUGE:        (18,14)

Lakes
        WorldSizeTypes.WORLDSIZE_HUGE:        (21,13)

Oasis
        WorldSizeTypes.WORLDSIZE_HUGE:      (23,14)

team battle ground
    grid_sizes = [{WorldSizeTypes.WORLDSIZE_HUGE:        (16,10)},

Hey Lurkers ... what is the definition of 'met in game'? I ask because while the game doesn't say that I have met someone, I can see their borders. Does that count?

I'd say you need to see at least one tile under their culture or one of their units (like AI contact in SP). Any pictures for us lurkers? smile
