Civ 4 Deity adventures

So I decide to continue on. He's gassed and I've got nothing better to do with the units.

So next turn.....

A PLEASED (+8 ) Zara takes him as his vassal, declares on me, and takes 3 lightly defended border cities with infantry. I really have no chance to take them back and that really put a damper on my game.

I reloaded to check, and if I vassalize Hammy in 1440, then no war declaration, Zara is not in WHEEOH and I can even trade techs with Hammy, despite him hating me (I pick up Electricity and Corporation immediately).

So that was annoying. Part of me wants to play on from the reload, to see if I could do it. But the other part of me knows that it won't be a "real" Deity victory so I might as well not bother.

But anyways thanks for reading. I'll try and keep this posted if I get another good game going, and I'd probably be up for a Deity SG if there was interest.

Hmm I don't think I did consider it, though it's a decent idea. I think in a newer game I settled on some stone (similar to the SG that I am running)

So Rego, I see you are from the 'Nasti.

Whereabouts do you live?

I went to law school at UC and lived in Kenwood and worked in Blue Ash when I moved out west summer of '08.

I would love to try to beat Deity in an SG, but I am not good enough to be useful to you at that difficulty level. Maybe I could play one turn to say I "helped" defeat Deity. wink

Okay I was talking to darrelljs about my latest game and he told me to put some screenshots up.

Obviously I have gone as Huayna. He's Ind / Fin, so I get double speed wonders and forges in addition to the cottage bonus (and 1/2 price banks). Additionally, his UU and UB are huge.

Quechuas solve my barb problems without having to worry about having horses or copper or teching to Archery. They have odds on archers and warriors. And Terraces (granaries) give culture and give you border expansion without wasting hammers on monuments.

So in this game I popped Fishing from a hut and researched Hunting->AH->Wheel->Pottery. I've been finding that Pottery for cottages before Mining -> Bronze Working seems to work much better, unless I have gold at the start in which case I'd put Mining after AH.

I went Hunting first in this game because I had the ivory. Normally I'd go AH (assuming a pasturable resource).

There were a bunch of forests at Cuzco that were awkwardly placed slowing down my initial worker movements.

I keep thinking I should wait to revolt to Slavery until my first settler is on the road, but what happens is that I then forget about it frown and so, as happened in this game, I didn't revolt till I had 3 cities, costing me way more than if I'd have just freakin revolted as I discovered BW!!!

Aesthetics in 1000 BC and then after a few turns research into Alphabet, was able to pick up Alpha, Math, IW and Polytheism. Academy in 725 BC and Literature in 675 BC, with TGL in 475 BC.

Code of Laws in 375 BC, which I flipped for Currency, Masonry, Calendar and Monarchy.

Nearly everyone was Buddhist, but a stray spread of Christianity meant that it was 225 BC before I finally was able to revolt.

I bulbed Liberalism in 375 AD (I only had 4 turns left but mostly I wanted to start on the Taj ASAP). I was able to trade up to this position

As you can see, I might actually get the Taj, which would be a first on deity for me. Cuzco has a forge and I have marble and am Industrious, so it's due in 8 though I have a few chops going in as well.

I will probably attack Julius Caesar. My other choice is Saladin who is of course protective, and JC snuck that city in the middle of my borders before my western cities had expanded borders to block him.

The other city note is that I just missed taking a barb city to Arabia (it's the size 8 city in green at the top of the pic). Saladin then culture bombed it, which stunk. I did send the folks that were heading up there to another barb city which I took (it's my most northeastern city). I also lost the city right below it to a barb but luckily it had just grown to size 2 so it wasn't razed and I could retake it.

I'll keep folks posted!!

wow that's a scorching tech rate. I guess that's what happens on deity when all the AIs are religious buddies!

If it were me I'd attack Suleiman, not JC. He's the only non-buddhist, so you can probably attack him without any religious penalties. And some of the other AIs might join in and help you out. Also he tends to build less units than JC. JC will probably drop out of buddhism at some point, and you can attack him then.

That's actually not a very fast tech rate (for deity). It's not THAT slow either (in my other game upthread I got Lib in 620 AD).

As for Suleiman, I could attack him, but the problem is (if you look at the minimap), I'd have to either go through JC or go through JC AND Zara (depending on which green is Suleiman and which is Zara). So his lands wouldn't really be useful to me

Good luck, this game does look winnable - "winnable" being far from easy though! lol Keep us posted on how it goes.

Okay first of all giant credit to sunrise089 for the suggestion on the Incas.

And darrell requested a shot of my F1

And by "requested" I mean "asked so many questions that would be answered if he just saw my F1 screen"

For the record, Caesar currently outpops me 99 to 41

I think you need more food. I also think that tech lead will evaporate quickly, so you better find some way to leverage it into more land in the immediate future alright.

If only there was a game mechanic that appeared around this stage in the game that let you convert food now to units that could acquire more food later lol

I'd personally attack JC purely for tactical reasons. I'm not that fearful of a 2nd AI war declaration once I have a large army built, and especially since JC is the only AI that actually shares any real border and is therefore a tactical danger.
