Quote:There it is, my bad. It all looks good to me. I rather like the ban list not being reset, would force players to economise with their picks. Good players who have a shot at the semi finals may want to pick lesser leaders and civs against lesser players whom they expect to beat, thereby giving lesser players a bit more of a chance to win a few games.
Sounds like very good concept to me.

Quote:I'd prefer sticking with 1 month per game. That allows pool games to be completed in 3 months, with the final completing in 5 months. That's a pretty decent pace. I might have a hard time playing multiple turns a day in more than one game along with my obligations in PBEM29g.
As I will prefer online games (maybe few sessions by few hours?) I am fine with whatever the time frame, but as I may end up with someone who insist on PBEM, I may well appreciate the longer time to finish this. I never played PBEM, so I dont know how it may feel and what speed we can achieve. If everything is OK and the players are in near time zone, how many turns you expect to be possible in this 1 month via PBEM?

Quote:I was thinking about this. I would say yes, all 3 COULD be played at the same time, but I hesitate to force people only because it could make it harder for some to hit the 1 month deadline.
I'm OK with that, in fact we are hurrying for nowhere smile

I support all the rules Scooter proposed and suggest starting asap.

Now that Catwalk is in, if we get 1 or 2 more, how does it work out?
Reply

If we get 10 people, then the groups just become 5-players groups with the same rule - everyone plays everyone, the 2 players at first and second position go to semifinals.
Reply

Then we need a rule for what happens if there are two players who both win 2 and lose 2 games.
Reply

We'd need that rule with 4 player groups too. How about earliest victory breaks ties?

You mean earliest victory in game? That's a possibility. But how do you decide which game to use? Earliest victory in any of the games vs earliest victory in any game? What if one player wins REALLY fast in 1 game and very late in 2 other close games. Or do you use an average win time?

I'm not OK if you mean finished earliest in real time. Too dependent on a players schedule not skills.

Ditto.

I think it is fairest to use as a tie-breaker the result of the match between the two who have equal points. Just like in the FIFA cup.

In rare cases we may need additional match/matches to be arranged - barrage I think it is called in the football.

I like the rules in general, but a few additional points

* I agree that groups should be relatively equal in strength, but I think we should also take everyone's playing windows into consideration, so that multi-turn sessions can be set up. As I said earlier, I foresee problems ending games in a month if I'm playing against someone in a very different time zone
* As the number of games will be relatively low, I don't think used leaders and civs should be reset for play-off. There are enough good combos to play 5 games (3 at the group stage, semifinal, final) without repeats
* We might want to consider banning certain leader/civ combinations outright, otherwise there's a strong chance of seeing a Pacal of Inca vs. Pacal of Inca final
* It's not mentioned anywhere in the rules, but I assume the games will be Always War?
* Also the standard game settings stuff (no vassals, no huts, no events) and the ban on nukes we discussed earlier should be added somewhere

How about lowest total number of turns in all won games?
