Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, We'd like to congratulate Qgqqqqq on his correct guess! Qgqqqqq, please come on down to the stage! Now, Q, do you mind if I call you Q? Good, good - we'd like to offer you a prize as a reward for your successful bet. But, of course, we've got to make it interesting for the readers at home, so you're going to guess correctly one more time.

Behind this curtain *swoosh* we have three doors. Behind one of these doors is the fabulous description and analysis of the Balseraph civilization. Behind the other doors...well, those are lesser prizes.

Will you choose Door A, Door B, or Door C?

I'll go into detail on how I picked my final ordering...later smile

This is totally how it was obvious you liked the clowns the best. I'll take Door D: Why are you picking the boring ones that get picked ALL THE TIME?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.

The...alphabetical list? If I were going by the alphabet, I'd be Amurites, wouldn't I?

Because *I* haven't tried them yet. Besides, I defy you to give me a list of ones not picked often, that includes anyone but the Doviello. 25 games already gives a lot of played civs.

Then be a rebel and play the Doviello neenerneener

lol
Door 'B' please.
Bals were obvious because you talked about lots of situational toys.
I'm also thinking you want perpentech for a more flexible gameplan...

Q, I see you're talking about Door B. That's a fine door, a good door, but are you absolutely 100% sure that's the one you want? I see that there's a bit of doubt in your mind. You may be talking a good game here, but I know the truth, you're not absolutely certain it's the one you want.

Y'know what, I'm going to give you a little bit of help here. I'm going to open up one of the other two doors, and show you what's behind it. Here, behind Door A, is...ooooh, it's a good thing you didn't choose Door A. That had a CSPAN report on the history of procedure of the committees in the House of Representatives. *Yawn*...I'm getting a little tired just thinking about it.

So, Q, has that helped you clarify your decision any? I'm going to give you a chance to change your mind if you'd like. You can stay with your original choice of Door B, or you can switch to the unopened door, Door C. Let me know when you come to a decision.

Always switch doors: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monty_Hall_problem

(I love this kind of non-intuitive logic)
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

lol
I've read the math, I know the reasoning!
Its only logical - I ought to be a-weaseling.

Here I hold a chance so rare,
To pick door C - it'd only be fair!

Yet we're not talking the Bannor or E-lo-him,
The Grigori or the tanned Malakim,

Here we have the Balseraphs, for whom no laugh is too petty,
Nor no trick too vile, for the amusement of the king of clowns or his pet Loki.

Therefore it seems to me,
That Door B it'll have to be,
For B is for Balseraph, and that's good enough for me!

Nice!

Also, I didn't see this before, but Mardoc, I suggested (almost) that exact boost to Summoner. I had alchemy labs instead of planar gates, however (gotta keep Faeryl in mind, too).
