If rushing is the consensus, I'd rather chariots than axes, because, again, Dog Soldiers. I believe we can safely assume self-researched MC will net the Colossus if we don't dally. Honestly, though, Stone is probably paramount for the 'mids, so I'd suggest a work boat next to check out the west.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

agreed on all counts. I also think that 'mids are more important than the colossus (obviously the great lighthouse is the most important).
Shoot when are you playing? I'd like to play my shift tomorrow (Saturday) night. Otherwise it won't get played until Monday night - not messing with Civ on Super Bowl Sunday (national holiday and all...)
Although I'm not in any hurry, don't mind playing on Monday
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

Alright, so I decided to continue on with researching sailing. We really need to have lighthouses for any sort of second city site to be viable and AH was ~30t away at full research whereas sailing is only 16t. This being epic, we should still have time to rush after that if we so decide to.
First major piece of news is that Sitting Bull adopted slavery on t35:
Obviously, that means he should have dog soldiers out soon. Rushing with axes or warriors is clearly out of the question.
Next, we got 61 gold from a hut:
The final major piece of news is that we got our first random event of the game!
I don't entirely remember what the details for the other two options were, but I chose the biggest risk/reward one which gave 2 unhappy faces in all cities for 5t (not an issue at all for our capital), a 50% chance of losing one population in all cities, and a 90% chance for gaining two extra health. Considering our variant, we are obviously highly limited in the health resources we can connect (never seafood, others have to be riverside or coastal) so the opportunity for two permanent health seemed a no brainer. The results:
Unfortunately, the 50% roll on losing a population didn't favor us, so our capital dropped from 3 to 2 pop. We did get the extra health though.
I actually decided to stop four turns early, as we just completed sailing and have a choice to make regarding what to build in our capital. With sailing just having completed, we could either switch to a lighthouse to improve our capital's growth, or continue building a settler (which is already at 30/149 and will take 24t to build now that we are at size 2). We also obviously have a choice as well in terms of what techs to research next. Hunting-->AH makes most sense if we want to rush, while BW makes sense otherwise.
Here's what our capital looks like at the moment:
In terms of exploring, I've mostly been exploring only on either coasts or up rivers. If it isn't coastal or a river, we likely aren't settling it any time soon, so so far I've been prioritizing those in our exploring past the Native American's lands. I think we should probably continue with that. Here's what has been revealed so far:
Just east of our capital:
The north and east:
And the south and east:
Our exploring workboat just only recently finished, so hasn't revealed much of anything yet.
With the first barb warrior having already showed up, I'd suggest moving the warrior closest to our capital back toward the capital. Better safe than sorry there.
Bigger is up. Bigger, do you just want to make up for the 4t I ended early on and take is to where we were originally going to finish (t60)?
Raze Native capital ... plant cities on the Silk north of the delta, on the Elephants 2e of Native, on the eastern Spice south of their capital, on western deer and one of the furs ...
I will be following this one with interest -- a simple idea (no tile improvements) that has huge consequences. A couple of questions, if the team does not mind my asking:
- Can someone explain the emphasis on the Pyramids? It does not seem like your cities will have enough food to run many specialists, making the high cost not worthwhile.
- What civics do you plan to use? Some of the "standard" choices seem much less appealing under this variant.
Tough luck so far with the Sitting Bull draw. Good luck on working your way past/around/through him.
