[BTS] Civ IV Newbie Succession Game - Monarch - Beginning now!

I rolled three potential starts using three leaders - Willem/Dutch, Bismarck/Germany, Gandhi/India. Let me know what you guys think!

I know Willem is a pretty great leader, but I just love playing the Dutch. I speak a little Dutch and I love hearing the unit languages.

(side note - I PROMISE that the Bismarck start was not edited in any way - that's what I got)

IMO the Ghandi start is strongest, but they're all pretty good - did you throw any starts out?

no, I just rolled three of them one after the other using the same settings changing only the leader. I don't really have the game knowledge to judge starting locations in too much detail beyond "oooh shiny food bonuses"

I'd probably have more fun with the Bismark start but I'd play any of them smile

For India I can see Spiritual and Fast Workers ... and for Netherlands I can see Cre/Fin ... but what made you choose Bismark? Anyways, that'd be my half a vote I suppose wink

Chose the biz-dog for industrial and because he's not that common a leader

I also cast my vote for bizzy, i think a high food start would make a nice tradeoff for not being a power leader.

My vote would be Ghandi's start too. TWO corn?! AND COWS?!? That's, what, +8 food surplus. And, the land around it is mostly grassland, and riverside too, so once it gets up to size it can keep that surplus and just work cottages (assuming we are going for a CE...). Just make sure you move 1W before you settle.

Are you sticking with Ghandhi, too? Not a bad choice, Fast Workers are great if you know how to use them. But Ghandi's traits are a bit on the meh side (PHI/SPI), you might want to try Asoka (SPI/ORG) instead. Still not exceptional, but if we're not going for a specialist economy, we might be better off with cheap lighthouses and courthouses.

OTOH, a +8 food surplus makes for 4 specialists to generate GPP...

If we're going with Biz, then move the capital 1E. A five food start will allow us to cottage for finance or farm for SE.

If you go for Bismarck, move the settler 1E or 2N. 1E mises the crabs, but secures at least 4 riverside tiles. 2N grabs the health bonus from both crabs and clams, and has 1 hill tile for some limited early production. (Edit: either way there's a few fog tiles to be uncovered, so there's probably at least one more hill in either spot).

What wrap type did you choose?

DAAAMN, Bismarck's start has a +13 food bonus at size 5! Obscene.
