Thanks. I had already corrected my previously built sim with the new world size after checking game settings when claiming my civ. My sandbox's tech costs seem to be in line with what is in the sandbox you linked to, as well as the live game.

Now if only Ichabob would log in and claim their civ... hammer

He's probably waiting for us to restart the game again tongue

New poll coming as soon as someone with Moderator status can update it. Cast your vote for the current poll soon or it will be too late. This is all the drama and interest I can muster so early in the game. smile

New poll isn't working frown (looks like it didn't reset votes, I've got an asterisk saying that I voted BrickDeer which I didn't- would be fine but doesn't count)

I'm not sure what the resolution is to fixing the poll. I've asked Xenu to take a look in the testing forum to see if he can hit on a fix.

Game news: The first worker is done (T12), warrior next (5t). Also this turn, my scout survived contact with a lion.

That's a lot of damage for a ~10% chance of dying but at least the scout survived. Given that real barbs start popping in only 13 turns I've decided to risk the scout rather than heal in place for seven turns. It will die soon but I hope to make contact with someone first so I can start dumping espionage points.

I hope to get around to doing an opponent analysis before too long. In my last game that was around T137 so don't hold your breath. Briefly, though, here's how I think the field stacks up in more or less order of anticipated finish:

Contenders:
Me
Gawdzak
Dreylin
Brick/Xenu (move up or down depending on how involved Xenu is or how interested Brick remains)
Ichabod

Maybe:
Adrien
Molach

Probably Not:
Jowy
AT
Yuri
NylesStandish
Mr. Cairo

Is it up or down if xenu is more involved?

Who do you most want as a neighbour?

How many city names will involve Brick settling deer?

Up if Xenubrick is more involved, up further if Brick loses interest and he actually takes over turnplaying responsibility. Xenu is a capable player but handicapped because he hates micro plans and refuses to use them. This leads to him making more tactical and less strategic decisions as he figures out the game state each turn. Which I think helps feed his propensity to build too many units. If left alone or if he borders and inferior opponent he could be dangerous, but only if he pays attention to the micro aspect of the game too.

Obviously it would be best to have food as a neighbor. Of the non-contender crowd I think Mr. Cairo probably is the greenest player and most likely to get steamrolled. I learned this turn that Gawdzak is my northern neighbor. This is probably a good thing. He is one of the stronger players in this field but is also a cool and rational guy. I expect him to play to win, which means making calculated, rational decisions rather than responding emotionally to adversity. I will try to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with him as I expect both of us to be around for a long time. If we can play nicely together and feel comfortable with our border then we stand a good chance of eating other neighbors and perhaps facing off much later in the game. Too early to tell but this is one way this could go. This is straight out of my pb18 playbook in dealing with you and Fintourist. It worked well then for both of us. The geography likely will make the possibility of negative interactions greater here because we appear to be on a script with many larger lakes rather than separate islands so we will need to settle a border that will allow both of us to be mostly satisfied.

Favorite animal: pug. All day, every day.

None. I'm thinking of going in a different direction with my theme. Since I haven't spoiled it yet I'll see if you guys can figure it out without any help.

This turn I have a 66.7% chance of my .4 health scout dying to a wolf. The scout can only survive two hits but needs to win four rounds to survive. So, good luck?

The river is 7 tiles north of my capital's line of latitude, 8 tiles south of Gawdzak's capital. I could settle an excellent city 1N of the scout's current position but Gawdzak's civ is creative and could easily wrest the 6f wet corn from me with a very nice sheep/cow/corn PH city three tiles to the north. I may well let this be the boundary even if he takes the corn because there is plenty of food remaining for this city, even if Gawdzak further peeled the deer away to another city. I'd almost certainly retain the flood plains, sugar, and would then have two sheep to share with other cities, as well as two lighthouse eligible lakes. I can make an argument for rushing to this area as a third city but I can also see the potential for this not being appreciated. Anyway, it is too early for this kind of thinking. I have a lot of scouting to do in the south before anything is decided. Gawdzak is still putting his EP into someone else so I can't eschew the possibility that I also have a neighbor to my south, or even another direction. But that middle river region is very nice. nod

I'm guessing from your comment in the IT thread that the scout did survive?
