1.) he started spending all his time obsessing about the badgame pitboss game
2.) he was too lazy to install the mod and actually try logging in to the game, so he just kinda stopped caring as much as the days rolled by I guess.
i still talk about the game with him on steam sometimes. I have promised him the death of the pig-stepping hooligans and I intend to keep that promise....

T199.
Korea's moving a lot of its troops forward, for the seige of MCG. I might just decide to amphibiously take their back-lines instead of MCG...
Gawdzak settled 2 cities this turn, bringing him up to like 46, 5 more than me. (I've got like +200 CY on him though). Furungy's only got 3 cities left, including the two near me. Looks like he wants to make his last stand there. Gawdzak pretty much rolled through Furungy without killing much of anything, as far as I can tell.
It would cost me, like, 3400 gold (enough to 1-Turn MT and then upgrade all my units near the Furungy front) if I wanted to take those two cities without signficant losses... alternatively, I could go for the Physics scientist. Both dtay and Gawdzak are without a gold reserve and do not have SM themselves... I'm pretty sure I could get it if I wanted it but I'd have to go for it right now.
Next turn is T200 - anyone out there interested in a domestic overview?

*raises paw*
also it seems insane to me that most people are at around 40 cities. I've only been keeping a cursory eye on this game, but when I saw how close to korea you guys started I thought the map would be a lot more cramped than it is. yet here you are with 41?? cities and from the look of the minimap most people have had entire swathes of land to settle unmolested.

Nah, there's no more uncontested land anymore. For awhile, there was some land between Korea and Egypt that went unclaimed for ages, but eventually England and myself split it up. Goddamn, just look at that minimap, England is gonna be fucking ridiculously huge once they finally finish off China...
I'll do a domestic overview next turn for you boak. Just for you...

also another thing i wanted to ask you after looking at the minimap - it looks like your cities are super spread out around a big inland sea, which a bunch of cities that look like they're on islands and stuff. are you running into econ issues due to maintenance? i cant remember if cities cost more if they're separated by water or if its only if they're separated by ocean tiles.
but yeah it looks like plako and commodore have benefit from being able to settle in a giant blob whereas you've had to settle in a big ass ring.
*double takes* did someone just say big ass ring

My maintenance is insane yes, IIRC to the tune of around 350 gold per turn AFTER my -25% Agg discount, plus inflation, but each new city brings in quite a lot of money due to trade routes (especially with Cothons) and Rep specialists. A good half-dozen of my cities are completely non-productive iceball fillers, but they still make a big profit. I'll show you some of them next turn. For example, IIRC, my city of Greasy Grossman brings in like 9 beakers, 10 gold, and 34 commerce by itself at the cost of like 6 gpt maintenance. I've got just two courthouses in my entire empire, both in very large cities that are like 20+ tiles away from my capital. And yeah, the geographic situation of my empire is completely absurd, I gotta be super careful in how I react to opponents from hereon out.
The extra maintenance you're thinking of is Colony maintenance, a stupid BTS feature, but MP games are generally played with vassal states off which removes that.
plako's consolidated empire must be kinda nice at this stage, but he had (and has) other problems that came along with it, such as tons of barbs due to vast desert and ice wastelands, and very little food. Also neighboring Commodore, the worst problem anyone could possibly have. Gavagai's empire is the more serious one; if he's able to quickly integrate all that land I don't know what could possibly stop him other than a dual, coordinated invasion by Gawdzak and I.

It is heartbreaking looking at the tracker lately. Not only do three civs consistently take forever to play their turns, (I almost never get the chance to play at lunch anymore ) there's also that every time I look I see even more of China getting wrecked. This turn four (!) more of Donovan's cities have fallen to Gavagai, good lord, how could he possibly melt so fast ??!?? It's been like 2 or 3 cities every turn, yet he is in a MoM GA and has had more than enough time to consolidate a stack together and put a stop to Gavagai's advances. Gavagai might have just straight-up won the game with this war, +20 cities, doubled his land, and scored the MoM. It has far surpassed my wildest expectations. Now, conquering Korea means that I'll only be catching up, not leaping out to a lead like I had hoped. I have this sick feeling that they'll once again will whip themselves into the ground and I'll spend another two dozen turns failing to finish them off while Gavagai is unchallengeable for the win.
Sigh, maybe I just go for Railroad instead of Physics, Gavagai will be bringing his masses of redcoats home soon and then what will I do? I'm stretched far too thin already...
