A brief update for T117

A few things to note there.

First of all, I get SO freaked out by red text up there at the top. Almost as bad as hearing the "horns of doom". But in this case it's just double failgold - for Taj Mahal and National Epic. You can see that I finally stole those 2 hill tiles from Sian - just in time for Gaspadore to take the city lol

Pindicator also told me he is finishing the Great Wall this turn (see below), so that will be 97 more gold for me.

Optics finished at EOT, and with the help of a bulb, I should have Astronomy next turn.

4 more turns to my next GP. Plan is:

* Scientist - bulb part of Sci Meth
* Merchant or Engineer - kick off a GA with my prophet
* Prophet - punch someone lol

Brief note economically:

Pindicator set off his golden age with the Taj Mahal, and his breakeven bpt is about 450bpt, and max is just shy of 800 bpt, according to him.

My breakeven (not in a golden age) is just shy of 500bpt and my max is about 830, so even though he's definitely going to catch up to me in his (possibly 27 turn) GA, I'm still doing well.

And I'm starting out about 5000 beakers ahead of him, and plan to get a free 4120 beaker tech soon (Physics from Liberalism).

Manufacturing-wise, the AP and a GA has him well in front (296 to my 158)

And behold the power of EPs

So because I have lots of my culture in the city, my state religion in it, and it's relatively close to my land, only 132 EPs were enough to get Investigate City on this little beauty.

So that will be nice. It looks like Gasp and Pindicator have agreed to stop spending EPs on each other, so I'm sure Gasp will start spending some on me, but I generate MUCH more EPT (he only got Code of Laws T101 vs. my T80)

Aaaaaand the save is already all the way back around again, about an hour after I sent it off thumbsup

You guys in other PBEMs can all be jealous now :neenernee:

I've heard you talking about Liberalizing either Communism or Physics. What do you consider the advantages of each?

Well originally I was going to take Communism. The big thing there would be State Property as well as the Kremlin.

The thing with Physics was more to prep for the war with Gaspadore, for earlier Airships. Their recon ability will be huge for preparation / logistics, and I saw firsthand in PBEM17 how powerful they are when you're actually IN the war. Not to mention it's 1500 beakers more.

They both have a great person attached to them, but I plan to Lib-> Physics and then go Guilds->Gunpowder->(Constr->Eng->)Chemistry->Communism, which shouldn't take very long I think.

Somehow Pindicator trades iron to Sian, and I get the blame

Quote:Commodore: Hey Rego
Commodore is online.
Me: hey
declaring war on me again?
Commodore: Hah, nope, but we appreciate the olive branch
Me: wow did the save get all the way around already?
Commodore: Yep, love the turn pace this game
Me: i just shipped it off like an hour ago!
Commodore: Yeah, it's awesome.
Me: anything up?
Commodore: Mostly, just letting you know we saw and understand the full ramifications of your "olive branch"
Me: ?
Commodore: Oh, not trading Sian iron, then having your hand puppet lend the iron
Me: hmm i think i might be missing something
Commodore: Yeah, but I seriously doubt it.
If and when you want to cut Pindicator lose because you think he's too strong, we might still be up for allying.
Me: so i am assuming that pindicator traded / gave sian iron
i haven't actually confirmed that ingame
i did mention to him that sian had offered me h is gold for iron
him being pindicator
i don't know why you would think that i have some sort of power over him that would MAKE him trade sian iron
it's certainly possible that he saw that as a free opportunity to pick up 100g since i'm assuming that he has some sort of deal with you re: the zerks
but.... this conversation has been a little weird

Commodore: Examining history objectively, if you were on the far side of the world from a pair that obviously have a lock-solid EP agreement, have traded gems/gold for Paya, have expanded in the other direction of each other without evident conflict, what would you think?
Especially if the runaway had loaned the junior partner enough gold to finish Nationalism in time to beat him to the Taj
Me: he told me he was going for divine right

Commodore: shrug In any case, if you've left yourself an out with your Pindicator agreements, we can talk about moving in.
Me: shrug indeed
so it's always interesting
i don't know how much you followed / read up on pb1
but same thing happened there
you say you're willing to work with me instead of pindicator
but you don't really want to make much of an effort unless i distance myself from pindicator
but i don't really want to piss off pindicator
without knowing that you are willing to work with me
there's a risk for me in distancing myself from him
that you'll use that opportunity to swoop in
not on my side
but on HIS
(you've already showed yourself opportunistic in taking me down when you had the chance)
so......
shrug, i guess? smile
Commodore: Oh, yeah, no doubt we're oppertunistic.
Long as we see a chance to win, of course.
Me: so.....

Commodore: Well, how's your readiness for a Turn 134 attack on Pin?
That's well within our NAP, so no issue there.

I got busy at work and wasn't really able to answer their question there, but do plan on sending them a note this evening. Of course, what I actually SAY in said note I haven't figured out yet...

Finally got Optics and was able to boat these whales. I built a workboat like 20 turns ago for these but I didn't really realize how long it would be till I got Optics, so I've been having to chill out with this boat since then lol

With the help of another scientist bulb I finished off Astronomy this turn as well. I think I have several hundred beakers of overflow, which I think I'll put into Liberalism. Hopefully I can get a scientist soon (whether from So Ugly or via Caste and a GA) to put into Sci Meth.

Some notes from my espionage on Gaspadore. He makes about 80-90gpt running max tax. This turn he's turned on science, and he loses 347gpt. Which means his breakeven percentage is about 20%. I can't see the total beakers generated, but I'm estimating he did between 1/4 and 1/3 of Astronomy, which would put him at about 500-600 beakers at max science.

So that would say he is doing about 100-150 beakers per turn at breakeven.

That.... isn't good. As a comparison, Pindicator is doing about 300bpt breakeven (closer to 500 in his golden age), and my current breakeven is about 510bpt.

In foreign relations news, you probably have seen that Gaspadore has (finally) eliminated Sian.

I also decided to speed up the GP coming out of So Ugly

But I screwed it up because when the city starved, one of the specialists was fired, leaving me 2 GP short frown

Oh well, next turn...

As you can see in the screenshot above, I turned tech off of Liberalism onto breakeven on Scientific Method. If I get a scientist next turn, I'll finish off Sci Meth and then Liberalism->Physics the next turn.

If I get a prophet then I punch myself, and if it's anything else, then it's golden age and time for caste / pacifism / probably nationhood. Head for Guilds and Gunpowder to spend 5t drafting Janissaries.
