Conquest of the Aztec homeland!

Great reports, really digging the first full-contact culture attempt we've seen.

Glad you're enjoying them. My break was good for my reporting I think, coming back refreshed and knowing there's only so long left has made this a lot more fun.

The final culture push began with a revolution.

And then another revolution.

Paganism is an extra 20cpt in each of my cities and like 40gpt. I think it is actually necessary for Weldyn to hit Legendary on T268. All it costs me is a few promos. I'm monitoring the military situation at the moment and holding almost completed units in some queues. I might spend 5 more turns in Theocracy to get another few promotions out, but I don't think I need to.

Next up we cash rush the Globe Theatre and a Christian Cathedral for almost 2k gold. Here's the 2 remaining Great Cities and their little brother.

The best city in the world with what is probably the greatest shrine thanks to Wall Street. Will hit Legendary on T268 without any additional help. Has a massive buffer from starvation and Customs house culture too. Makes around 1550 culture when I starve it.

Still got a lot of work to do on Basilisk Caves, but we only need to get to 18k culture. We'll cash rush 3 more Cathedrals and an Airport, then finish with a theatre and some temples before we start build culture.

Isn't she pretty? Weldyn is my best culture producer but you can also see why she's the slowest; needs to produce 50% more culture than Elensefar, let alone Basilisk Caves. Still, with it's new Theatre we can hit the T268 date if we can block outside interference. There's no way we could shave another 1500 culture off though for another turn.

Then we went on a city micro spree, optimising everything for gold or troop production. It's painful not to work these 2/1/8 towns sometimes, even though you know the commerce is useless.

We need to keep our expenses around -440gpt, or +80gpt after Joey's repayments are taken into account, so as to continue 100% slider till T268. I was hoping to do a bit better this turn tbh, but there's still plenty of opportunities for starvation and more wealth building instead of troops so I'm not too worried.

Finally, I made the decision to give up Lashing this turn with over 40 units on transports in range. Hopefully this limits the potential Aztec kills to their number of commandos.

I kept around 80 mostly high quality units in Arcanclave, which was also vulnerable.

Then I left another 40 high quality units in Luna. This is the only city where commandos can attack and still get back on the ships, so it was important to have a good defense here.

Finally we have at least 20 units in all other commando vulnerable spots. Most of these units are fodder but I don't think the commandos can kill them and retreat so I'll gladly lose them for a shot at the commandos with my artillery next turn. In addition, all cities that are really vulnerable by air have bunkers. Here's the defence in the MoM city as an example.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any reactions next turn. Half of the remaining civs seem to have city visibility on me these days so my victory timetable should be pretty clear to them. BGN of course is the main person of interest. Fortunately, OH's Apollo program shows up in the event log next turn too so hopefully that takes a bit of the limelight of me.

Oh, and someone fomented unhappiness in Basilisk Caves. Great timing with the +20 happy it just got this turn!

Cultural victory attempts, if done right, are often prone to horrific death camps where gaunt and hungry artists in their millions hunch chained before their easels, soundboards, or kilns...but by golly are they all happy.

bow That should really be my thread title shouldn't it?

I logged in this morning to check what OH had done:

-It turns out I was trying to be far too clever by revolting to No Religion. The extra Sistine culture for buildings is tied to your state religion. I'm actually throwing away over 100 culture per turn in Elensefar. It's not so bad in Weldyn fortunately, but we're definitely looking at T269 now.

-OH appears to have forgotten to move his northern fleet of 9 Destroyers, I should be able to wipe them out. He actually logged in when I was looking around, I said I wouldn't be moving anything until tonight and he could change stuff if he wanted. I'd prefer not to be gaining advantages like that. He said it was fine though and he was just checking his 'sleep deprived mistakes'. So it sounds like he's just going to accept it.

-He also razed Lashing. I was hoping to get my southern ports razed but I didn't think they'd co-operate now that the city was size 3. I seriously had about 150 units tied up in my commando defenses last turn.

Actually, I know you didn't plan for a CV from day one but the thread title is still pitch-perfect.

An Aztec fleet, asleep at the rudder:

An Aztec fleet, sleeping with the fishes:

(I hit them with a couple of bombers too). Then I gifted 2 Battleships to Joey in thanks as the pressure is gone.

Southern coast:

I misclicked 3 tanks that ended up NW of Sablestone and had to delete two of them. I figured they'd be free xp after air bombing.
