[SPOILER] Asoka of the Vikings (Nakor & Gaspar)

Gaspar Wrote:Well... you're not a lurker, Nakor! I was scamming for lurker posts! You did neglect to mention the primary reason that area excites me, though its quite obvious - so I'll still leave that up to lurkers.

And here's a lurker happy to oblige. But you're right, your teammate stole the thunder. I can't even sarcastically say that I thought it was the riverside pigs; you mentioned that as well. :neenernee

I give up, what's the primary reason it excites you?
I have to run.

Its not really all that exciting, so I won't leave everyone in suspense wink any longer. Its those 3 peak tiles in the NW, which means this particular body of land is separated from the mainland. Basically meaning anyone who settled there would have the same defensibility issues as we do. Basically the natural options for settling there are Locke and luddite, but they'd both have to ferry their workforce/military there as well. Given we have a slight advantage on the seas (one of two Civs that have 3 move galleys and triremes) the hope is that it will somewhat mitigate the fact that we're slightly further away from the area than they are.

Might be worth it, by the by, to settle the clam gems site before the fish site or riverside pigs site. This way we'd have an established base on the landmass before Locke sees our borders, unless he himself has a boat in the area.

Hey - this is what passes for excitement in Vikingdom these days, cut me some slack.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

He has a boat in the area, so we must hurry a bit...maybe back so slavery to whip a few settlers?

And here I thought the exciting bit was that it looks like an axe! wink

Okay, send messages to Plako, Locke and LP (who send one to us, pretty long again). Make sure to take our EP's off LP next turn.

Damn, forgot to look at the tech screen while ingame. Haven't ended turn yet, but not much going on.

EDIT:
Gaspar, can you take a screenshot of the techscreen and swap our EP's to Luddite?
Hope you have time to read the messages we got as well. Seems like we can get long NAP's with all our neighbours, giving ourselves more time to get back into the game.
Guess they don't see us as a long term threath, but that's ok for now...

Okay, got some time myself.
Locke has Alphabet, Philosophy, Archery and Monarchy on us as far as I can see.
Swapped EP's as well.

Didn't end turn, so if you have time to take a look, feel free to end it!

Sorry I was a bit incommunicado here. I tried to log in last night and it was down, so I just got around to taking a look now.

Not much to say that you haven't said, actually. I'll just note Taoism was founded by Locke and luddite built the Great Library. Otherwise, pretty quiet stuff. I didn't have any micro to do, so I hit enter.

Horseland: Confucian Missionary -> Confucian Missionary (Roughly forever)
Fishfood: Trading Post -> Galley (9)

Either of those can be vetoed, just seemed like a good idea to get a little bit more navy going if we want to settle far away.

I decided to move the worker off the gems mine at Crossing to work a 4th scientist. This costs us a couple gpt, but will get the Scientist born a turn sooner. Once the scientist is born we can switch civics back to Slavery and take OR along with it. MC is still due in 3, we'll want OR for a Forge in the capital pretty much immediately.

We've discovered more of that landmass, and it turns out bato's right... but so was I.

You can indeed go N-NW from the bananas to reach more land. However, you cannot go much further, because the rest of the area is sealed by peaks. So assuming we can get there first, its going to be navally defensible. On that note, it may be worth diverting the near term tech plan slightly to slip in Iron Working. With all that jungle, it'll be a pretty big help, and I suppose probably wouldn't hurt to know where the Iron is. Will also let us tech Compass.

Depending we can either go Monarchy -> Feudalism -> Civil Service after IW, or just go straight for CS. The former gets us a discount on CS, and given Spiritual, prioritizing civic options is always a good idea. We probably won't run much Serfdom, but it could help to run it for a few turns when we first start clearing all that jungle.

I haven't posted much diplo, because that's Nakor's job. However, we're now NAP'ed to oblivion: plako 165, Locke 175, LP at least 185 though he wants 200. Basically we have 45-ish turns now to get expansion done and build at least the capacity for an army. That means after this round of workers/settlers/galleys we need to do things like getting Forges, Barracks and Stables built, so we have options. When this round of NAPs expire, I don't want to be stuck having to sign peace because we suck. I'd like to be able to put together a military. Not saying we will, but I'd like to be able to. So we don't end up slaving Knights to defend against Rifles. wink

We haven't done a big update in a little bit, so I'll go for a massive picture dump on T125 (Its 119 now.) If there's anything lurkers want to see in the interim, just ask.

Locke's tech rate isn't as scary as plako and LP are trying to make it sound, actually. I think we're in pretty good shape considering we've built little to impact this beyond a few libraries. Just need to get more cities settled and productive. Its really funny how LP, plako, and Locke are all trying to get us to attack one of the other. We couldn't be more pig in the middle here. We're going to get extra-super-wicked invaded at some point.

LP suggested we provide WK with copper. I wish there was someway we could get away with that without pissing off plako, but I really don't want to arm my strong neighbors opponent, so he can hold a grudge after he kills WK off. Could we possibly trade it to Locke and have Locke pass it along to WK, since plako and Locke have no relationship anyway?
