RB goes medieval - a CK:DV succesion game

Can you still lower your reputation by assassinating people in your court or was that patched out? It might be too gamey for you guys, but that inevitably becomes my preferred method of getting out of too much badboy. It's a good way to implement quality control in vanilla CK too, since you can practice something distressingly close to eugenics what with the parents stats determining their children's stats.

re: Mongols, my absolute worst experience was playing as Flanders out in France. I collapsed the French kingdom and expanded my realm across the northern half of France, but I had no answer for the Mongolian kingdom that stretched from Germany to the Caspian Sea, fielding hundreds of thousands of horse archers. That was a game ender - the Mongols are really the only force capable of stopping a human player that knows what he or she is doing.

January

- In accordance with their earlier agreement, plague leaves Polotsk. Newspaper headlines break record for amount of alliteration in one go!
- Successful propaganda campaign 'Just say Nie!' increases prestige!

February

- Vassal who married useless priest becomes main beneficiary of the second ever 'Bribe the Bastards Day'. I sympathise as she is ugly too!

March

- Viacheslav falls ill once more cry - so he is now Severly Wounded, Stressed and Ill! Don't know what he's complaining about to be honest... wuss!

- Back to usual as Old, Useless Courtier gets OUCD.

February

- We gain a new vassal as Beloozero become our vassal & keep all their titles

March

- Plague breaks the rules again & passes it to my Chancellor (the wife of Viacheslav)

May

- Random Useless courtier defects - well he may have gone a while ago but this is the first time we noticed.
- Chancellor dies of plague cry - but is replaced by someone better jive
- Thieves hung in Chernigov - McDonalds & Starbucks still open (but nervous)

September

- BORIS GETS THE PLAGUE!!! crycrybangheadbanghead - he's already stressed from before he inherited. In his state of the nation speech the following day, Boris announces a 'War on Plague' which shall aim to defeat plague wherever in may live until it is fully eradicated. Now we know where Bush got the idea from!

- Fortunately Boris has 2 sons, unfortunately they are 8 and 2 years old! Neither looks that remarkable but we are stuck with them.

- Now the plague is taking the piss! Our Steward also gets OUCD!

- Due to effects of OUCD, Boris now becomes useless with an intrigue of 0 meaning we can only handle 2 provinces and are at 40% efficiency. We can't afford to give away so many prosperous provinces so I just plough on for now.

- 'Poor efficiency causes problems' - we try to pay to restore stability but we lose the diceroll & go down to +1 stability (25% chance!)

November

- Just like that, BORIS DIES OF ILLNESS. FML!

- Trifle (I mean Trifon) assumes the throne at the wise age of 8. Surprisingly his intrigue is enough to run at 70% efficiency but unfortunately we have disloyal vassals again. Looks like the public holiday may be making a frequent comeback! On the plus side, we are back in positive prestige (for now)!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1177 AD

January - March

Nothing much - the calm before the storm? Knowing my luck, more like calm before the catastrophe!

April

- An ex-vassal declares on some of our vassals, time for a bit of smackdown because I'm worth it!

- Plague is now public enemy number 1 as it infects our Chancellor! An anti-plague carrier pigeon hotline is set up for anyone to report anyone who looks suspiciously 'plaguey'. Department of Homeland Anti-plaguery set up at great expense to the taxpayer.

July

- Medium castle complete in Chernigov
- We gain a peaceful vassal - Suzdal

August

- Another peaceful vassal - Ugra
- Velikiye Luki becomes a vassal again after crushing it after it attacked our vassals.

September

- Now here comes the 'fun'! A single province vassal with 300 men (Vladimir-Suzdal) declares independence & war on us, costing us 360 prestige (into negatives) and we lose a diceroll so we end up with -1 stability!!!! Oh and we also got the 'Realm Duress' trait too bangheadbangheadbangheadbangheadbangheadbanghead

- County of Kostroma also decides to join in the act with its pitiful amount of soldiers, costing us another 67 prestige and (after losing a 10% diceroll) takes us down to -2 stability! crycrycrycry

October

- Vladimir Suzdal offers peace for 4000g, I take it as I want universal peace as quick as possible to get the stability up again!

- Kostroma also offers peace for 400g, taken.

- Vassals start demanding feudal contract that I can't really afford to give. Said vassals lose loyalist trait and become 'Rebellious'.

November

- Another vassal (Kexholm) declares independence - He shall pay! Only has 1 province and 141 men. I am now pissed off so DOW and kick his arse

- Bjarmia & Trans-portage follow suit - They shall pay! No DOW though as I can't see the point.

December

- Kexholm back as a vassal - worth it just to let off some steam!

- National 'BTB Day' becomes a monthly occasion from now on - good job we have a massive treasury! I want peace at all costs - we need stability!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1178 AD

March

- Our reputation is now up to 'Honourable'. I shan't do anything with it now so the next guy has as much leeway as possible to act in our interests! Tbh our reputation is the only thing besides our treasury preventing mass independence requests.

April

- Our wonderful Maria recovers from an illness and is back to her super-duper best.

June

- 2 more vassals declare their independence & I declare that they shall pay eventually!

July

- Principality of Prussia declares war on us.

August

- Prosperity of Novgorod down to struggling (it was rich a few years ago??)
- Another vassal declares independence (still the minor ones really) - they shall pay as soon as the King is old enough to know what the phrase means!

November

- Prussia is back as our vassal along with 400g, they keep their titles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1179 AD

January

- Chernigov prosperity up to 'prosperous'

May

- Plague leaves Kiev
- Cumans are now even more worrying - an army attacking a Tver province on our border has over 16000 troops! I know we can field more but with the loyalty weaknesses and recovery from plague still a way from completion its not nice to see. Plus we are not allies since Boris died & they aren't interested in talking to Trifle (Trifon...)

June

- Another vassal declares independence (Kedholm again) - they can go in peace (We need some Piety!)

October

- All remaining vassals adopt a new national anthem which is believed to sound similar to Abba's 'Money Money Money' according to recent discoveries.

November

- 'Difficulties' hit Pereyaslavl - Thieves, Smugglers & Highway Robbers all move in
- Start building Templar House in Pereyaslavl - because that's the best way to fight organised crime - through religion..........

December

- Peasants rebel in Pereyaslavl - they are put down with ease despite the army being intimidated by the fearsome fish splices they had to face.

- Prince of Finland declares independence - he may go in peace.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right so that's the end of my set.

Here is an overview picture of our kingdom before I give my final thoughts!

Well it was just like last time for me - first half made it seem we were going to have a nice easy, peaceful turnset and then luck and events screw us over and we end up like this with another boy king!

With Boris succeeding and having an alliance with the Cumans my plans seemed to be falling into place but plague really is a bitch!

In terms of what to do next, we just need to keep bribing and maintaining the peace. Our reputation is strong and prestige is slowly climbing along with piety. As long as nothing too crazy happens I am hopeful we can turn this into another strong position like we had with Viacheslav. We just have to hope his court education turns Trifon into the super leader we need!

Will put save up any minute - sorry for being the bad luck charm again guys!

Good job in keeping stuff mostly in one piece thumbsup

Just so no-one thinks I've forgotten wink - I've played the first 5 years of my turnset, but won't get time to write them up till Friday (I'll do that, then play the next set, more fun for me to break it up a bit smile ). Teaser trailer - it's all going so well that I'm kinda waiting for the other shoe to drop now lol

This is the 3rd awesome bit of fun I've had courtesy of RB threads... Battle of Wesnoth, resurrection of XCom and now some fancy CK action.

Given the lack of coherent manuals/tutorials I'd have really struggled to figure out how to play this beast. Which would have been a shame, just scratched the surface and it looks like a big pool of fun.

Your thread has helped immesurably getting started with it. Thanks a lot. The writeups have been really good fun and have kept me entertained no end. :D

Having played a little I'm quite staggered by how mighty your empire has become!

bow

As a minor aside to anyone else looking to pick this up, Paradox realeased an hour long video tutorial on youtube that's worth checking out. It's mostly where all the menus are and the like, but it's quite helpful.
