Nice work, Lewwyn. smile

Yes, the liches and our mage Fire&Ice are awesomely destructive. Especially against anything without ranged attack to respond, it is just total slaughter. smile

Level 1 elves...some allies. rolleye If we had not already killed all the troll armies, they would just be easy XP to promote trolls.

I think we do want to finish off the last two troll kings, while grabbing as many villages as possible to keep boosting our gold. I am not sure just what will carryover to the next mission, but having some gold in our treasury will be a good thing. Even with the time needed to walk across the map, we should still finish early. And a bit more XP from the troll kings is good -- maybe we can try to get the kills for Bruindane or our other level 2 units (I think we have a couple left).

One thing you should keep in mind is that the bonus for finishing early usually equals or exceeds the gold you would get for controlling all villages on the map. So you won't gain any money by sticking around. The XP probably still makes it worth it, but gold-wise there's no point to grinding turns.

any objections to me just finishing off the senerio since it seems like its just walking across the map twice

Finishing up sounds good to me, Fire&Ice. Unless there is some kind of scripted event to boost the remaining troll kings, this one is effectively over.

5 enemy all with a base income on 27
so 135 pure income

besides that they got a crap ton of villages
I counted 20 villages in the castle alone.

Oh and checking the status table I see that we have another ally in this battle with allot of gold. But, wait its Krash. DAMMIT Lewwyn why oh why did you kill him.

I think we should go spam dwarfs and attack north through the mountians.

We certainly have some trouble ahead of us. I am not sure yet how tough this is going to be. The enemy has a lot of numbers, but we have better units -- many of the enemy units are level 1, and it looks like only the 5 kings are level 3. There are a lot of assassins, though, so we are going to have to keep our healers busy curing poison to avoid losing troops.

Turn 1

I start moving most of our loyal units west to form the initial line of defense. I send the griffon south to start claiming villages, and plan to use my spectre avatar for this as well.

For additional units I take one more griffon for village claiming, lots of dwarves to fight in the mountains, and the Minister of Justice and a fugitive to help hold the open ground.

IBT the enemies recruit a huge number of units. yikes

Turn 2

Our loyal units continue west -- I am planning to form our defensive line where the mountains approach the water to the south. The idea is to kill enemy units with dwarves in the mountains, fugitives on open ground (as they get far better defense there than anything else we have), and whatever we have along the water edge. (If the enemy will go into the water let's take advantage of that.)

Both griffons, the spectre, and the shyde are grabbing villages since they have mobility. The shyde will be brought back quickly to back up the front -- we are going to need all the healing we can get. The other three should keep grabbing villages for income. I also have our one promoted dwarf explorer moving to grab northern villages -- there are about a dozen up there and we will need them.

Recruiting splits about half dwarves and half fugitives/misc ranged guys.

Our income has gone negative already with all the promoted units. frown

IBT the enemy recruits more and starts moving units to claim all the villages near them...which is a lot, unfortunately. frown

Turn 3

Contact is made with the enemy as we kill 4 units (wolfriders, the enemies' fast forward scouts) and form our initial defensive position.

The dwarves will take a while to get in position, so our line is going to have to bend back to the northeast at first. But they will get there. I recruit another batch of dwarves and fugitives -- almost all our level 3 units are in play and many of our level 2 as well.

We continue grabbing villages in the south, but be careful of the enemy units which are rapidly spreading out. Almost all level 1 types, but we are weak in the south so be careful not to get trapped by ZOC. Griffons are damn expensive (40 gold!) and we will not be able to afford replacements. Use their huge mobility to take what we can and then pull back.

In the north a couple fast dwarves start grabbing the various villages. Keep this going while the main dwarf forces moves to the front -- we need the income.

Speaking of income, the 4 orc leaders have spent their starting cash but the troll king still has about 350 gold.

IBT the troll king empties his treasury. The enemy now has 102 total units on the field yikes, with a total income of 73 per turn after all costs. And they are still grabbing more villages. frown

Initial attacks hit us, and Sister Thera dies for the first of what will undoubtedly be many times. frown More positively, the enemy is moving into the water.

I would pull our master bowman back, as night is falling and he gets poor defense in flat ground. Put a fugitive there instead, and try to keep both ends of the line from getting flanked. That island to the south is tempting, but I would put a couple guys on the shore where Fire&Ice is right now and kill them in the water.

Our income sucks but there is enough cash left to recall/recruit one more good batch of units. Good luck!

Well that was interesting. I held the line killed alot of units, recruited some new lvl 1's so they can get experience and perhaps keep our expenses low enough to gain more gold. By the end we were running +6 gold, and we were at +12 before the enemy stole our southern villages.

I only lost one unit. A griffon. Jesus. What is it with me and great winged mythical beasts... This time he got attacked by 5 units and died. Other than that no loses. Watch out at the choke point there are two fugtives running on fumes. The Dwarves are killing like usual. The all have hatchets and do loads of dmg to crossbow men who shoot arrows at em.

In the south I've moved more units onto the small island in effort to widen our line and perhaps wear at the enemy faster and protect our villages. You can decide whether to pull back or not. Two units are poisoned. The shyde can make its way over to em.

And the save.

Looks pretty good, Lewwyn. thumbsup

I am skeptical that the island is worth holding. Maybe if there was a village at our end of the island, rather than two at the enemy end. frown Pulling back and killing them as they try to cross the water might be better.

They still have 95 troops, and a bit under 100 gold per turn income. frown So we need to be killing 5-6 enemy units per turn just to hold even.

Maybe work on straightening out our defensive line -- there are a couple points where the enemy is getting 3-to-1 on our guys. frown A few more troops still coming to the front...including a dwarf ulfserker? huh Why do have one of these? They are complete junk. smoke lol I guess if the berserk ability is optional, 4-4 melee is pretty decent for a level 1 unit. I just remember the map where the AI had these, and after about 3 turns the AI dwarf king was down to only himself still alive. banghead Not exactly impressive. lol

lol I have no idea, I just wanted to see it because I never actually got to see them in action. Maybe their leveled up versions are awesome XD
