[SPOILERS] Dazed and scooter play Stalin of Vikings and make a big mess

Odd - first time he hasn't done that in a long time. Did you move up to his borders then?

yeah. I played the turn the way I woulda played it regardless. I'm not interested or available today to play clock games and try to log in last. Plus, since we couldn't double move him in that scenario anyways, it would only be moderately helpful

Scooter and I are discussing how to move forward.

I just noticed the name of his city. So I guess he moved the archer by accident. So he double moved -- which broke the rules -- but also hurt himself. Not sure if changing the city name is within the rules or not. I guess since it doesn't affect the strategic or tactical situation it's not a big deal

Don't mind if I do.

The result was more damage than probably "average" but it's okay.

Mechanics Question: When hovering over city defenders, are you only told the fortify bonus for the top unit? Or if you are only told the fortify bonus of the "top" defender does that naturally imply that the other defenders do not have one?

Because we can only see the top Brick warrior fortify bonus, but he's had 2 there for a little while. So either he moved one out and in, or only the top fortify bonus shows.

So our big decision now is how to promote the axe. See, we have 3 options. We're assuming he will not get anymore archers into the city, which I think is an above-average assumption from deciphering his power charts (but not a lock).

1) Wait to promote. Attack at 85% odds. 15% chance of this whole thing blowing up in our face. But if we win, we get to use our promo more intelligently depending on how badly damaged we are.

2) Promote to shock. This would mean lots of dead warriors. The problem would be if we promo'd to shock, killed, and then see an archer show up next turn. THEN we'd have a wounded shock axe which wouldn't be good against an archer in a city.

3) Promote to cover. Seems crazy with warriors, yes. However, from reading his demos, he certainly has no Vultures. This means his army is a bunch of warriors and maybe an archer. A C1 Cover Axe would own anything he has. Besides, the health boost alone of promo'ing would be all we need.

I'm not really in favor of City Raider being considered here. I'd rather go with option 1 than CR. I'm pretty sure Dazed agrees with me. Anyways, we're flipping between #1 and #3. Our thinking is that if we promo next turn, kill a unit, we'll be somewhat injured and have to take an ~85% shot the following turn anyways. Getting it over with is the more logical conclusion then so we know if we're screwed or not. It's like when an NFL coach is down 15 and scores a TD... I get mad whenever that stupid coach doesn't go for 2 immediately and figure out where he actually stands. That's kinda what we're looking at here.

I'm pretty sure the fortify bonus shows only for the top unit. The other defenders may have some fortify bonus too.

The second one should also have full fortify. The third one could be 0 or 5% depending on if brick moved it in on the first or second of the two turns he played in a row.

That was what I figured it had to be - would be bizarre for him to move his warrior in and out of the city. Anyways, we're not really sure where the archer came from. It either was whipped or came from the road. If it was whipped, he had to have been sinking hammers into it already. Since I'd think he'd build a WB there and bring the archer in from an inland city, I'm betting he just saw us and swapped to a warrior, whipping from scratch instead. However, Dazed noted that the sabotage production box is empty, and you'd think it'd have WB hammers in it if he swapped to a warrior and whipped from scratch.

However, I don't think it really makes a huge difference either way.
