[SPOILERS] Team EggHeads: DMOC and TeddyKGB (Now Lurker-Friendly!)

our capital almost certainly won't get a barracks, I don't think it has enough production to be used as a military producer in all but the most dire of emergencies, and if we get that far we'll be whipping like crazy anyway. stonehenge is at least a bit of goold.

Quote:From what I know, if we have x/(2x) food in our city bar the turn before our granary is completed, then it's optimal in terms of food saved (but I don't know why).

Its not correct. We had to have x/(2x) food on turn granary done, not turn before. In this case we'll store X food in granary which will add to food bar after growth.

Optimal food for granary done NOT better then faster granary with nonoptimal food. It just allow you to delay granary 1-2 turn if needed and get the same result.

Okay, good to know, and thanks for correcting me. What happens if we have x-1 or x+1 food the turn the granary is done?

Also, I moved the scout.

Do we want to uncover more of the coast (e.g. for coastal trade routes eventually) or head south?

X+1 (or x+n) could be exactly the same with food oveflow. If no food overflow happens on turn city growth - granary will add (x-1) food.
X-1 (or x-n) it just mean city could probably delay granary a bit. When city grow - granary will add X food.

To my knowledge, its all depends on current situation with fpt and food overflow. To make it optimal, we want the granary would add X food (maximum possible) after city grow to next size.
Faster granary never a bad thing to do.
Slower granary could be the same thing in certain situations.

As for scout, it seems there is no more land north? So I guess we have 3 options here: 3-9 // 3-3 // 3-2.
I'm undecided myself.

3-2 is the only move that will leave us on a hill, and there's plenty of fog to unfog there. do we want to start circling back to unfog this eastern area? I think we do, and I think 3-2 is the best move towards that end.

I'm still a little confused at the bolded part. (Actually, I'm confused at the whole thing but mostly at the bolded part.) So this means it doesn't matter if we can't get x/(2x) food once the granary is done; as long as it's equal to or LESS than x, we'll get the same amount of food (i.e. same benefit)?

By the way, upon some reflection, I agree with 3-2 for the scout next turn.

Edit: All right, I looked it up and it seems like when we grow a population, the granary lets us have x/(2x) food in the food bar already, PLUS whatever is in food overflow from the previous turn ... I actually didn't notice that before. I'll have to play around with granaries someday. smile

Turn 18 - 3220 BC

Our worker started roading.

The scout moved and saw something very interesting. wink

Gold ... cows ... a lake? That sounds pretty similar to MIT's location. Do we want to move on the gold hill next turn? We may be close to making contact!

Here are the demographics:

Score changes:

Team Gladiator's Glory (29->35) finally finished their first technology. But here's the thing -- it can't be Bronze Working! That tech gives 8000 power, yet the rival average power went up by only 111 from last turn. That means a team instead got 1000 power while all others got 0 (and hence average is 1000/9 \approx 111). That must have been Eagles & Condors since they grew 1 population.

So what the heck did Team GG research that took 18 turns? They started with Fishing and Mining. Did they do something like "I'll research this tech 90% of the way there, then research a different tech at that point?" noidea Did they already make contact and are trying to reap in the known tech bonus in some way by delaying a tech?

Team Eagles & Condors (35 -> 38) grew to size 2. It's only turn 18, so maybe we were wrong about them going workboat -> worker, because I still can't see how they'd grow to size 2 that quickly. (They started with Fishing/Agriculture.)

As you can see, demographics are becoming more and more difficult to track. lol

(Next turn, we will grow so our score will be 38 as well.)

Sorry for confusion about granary. Optimal food is not that important while you follow the main rule - granary in every city asap.

I agree with 3 (move on gold) for scout this turn.

I think we will spot borders from the gold. I would wager all the civs have gold or silver nearby the start for balance, and we are quite far from our capital now.
