There's a clip for everything, although I have to admit I contrived the need to show Kate Upton doing the Dougie wink.

Actually, where is Sulla's martyr complex even coming from? Presumably he isn't reading this thread, so he has no idea what people are writing about him, and he doesn't post or get talked about in any of the other active Civ forums. He didn't get much crap in PB4 since he used a pseudonym, and PB2 was years ago. Are people really mean to him in the LoL forum or something?

Due to the fact that this game is boring it is pretty clear that we are talking about him. And Sullla knows when he is talked about it is always negative. He really can not ignore the post count.

QFT

As for the actual discussion: I couldn't care less who is right or about this game (though I think Sullla has a point) but calling other members asshole is never ever a valid reply imo. And tbh I am surprised that the actual discussion is not about that but if Sullla was right or wrong in using his mod-powers to close the thread. Besides I think in a game with no communication allowed by the rules this thread should have been closed by a mod anyway as soon as the first player states he is against it, as the rules by which all signed up do not allow it and in this case it should imo not be a question of looking what most of them want right now (5 already stated they do not want it / need it btw), but to accept that agreed rules won't be changed without a consensus of ALL involved parties first, which clearly isn't the case here.

So, to summarize: Imo Sullla may have been better off asking T-hawk to close the thread, but the mod-action in itself is imo warranted for, so I don't see a reason why he couldn't do it by himself. The namecalling though is certainly not warranted for and quite honestly I think Thoth should apologizes for being so much out of line with it.

All the more reason to continue to post spam in the lurker thread!

Not sure what you're talking about kjn, poking at things is fun!

The site has changed from five years ago, the profile of the players is different, the types of games played has changed...

...he's moderating based on his conception of golden age RB, which is not where the site is at now, nor IMO even remotely where it needs to be.

...I think Sullla has tried to preserve everything he remembers, instead of keeping the best of what was and merging it with the best changes that have arrived to make a better stronger place here.
This did occur to me while reading one of Sullla's recent posts, although I didn't bother to verbalize my thoughts at the time. I think you hit on quite a few good points though.

Granted, I'm one of the newer members of this site and wasn't around years ago when it had a different focus. But I've been around other Civ forums since 2002 (when I was 14... geez, a decade ago now!), and I can totally understand the changes in direction and focus that occur within a group over long time scales like that. And while the mind has a tendency to embellish and glorify the "old days", change really isn't a bad thing. It's the people that join you on the journey that matter in the end.

You can't go back and reset things to how they used to be - but really, you shouldn't want to. Do I have fond memories of the small group of folks I started out doing Civ stuff with in 2002? Absolutely. Some of them I've maintained contacts and friendships with to the present day. But there were also many other neat things that happened over the years as the site continued to evolve. More people joined us on the journey, and more friendships were forged. So I have fond memories there too. However, I'm also enjoying the present with the new community I've joined here at RB, and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.

Once again, I think it's the journey that matters - and the people that join you along the way. The stops that you already passed by may have been awesome, and you may have many fond memories of them. But you should focus on enjoying the present and looking forward to the future, rather than obsessing about the past.

Okay, so that turned out a lot more esoteric/confusing/crazy than I was intending. But that's my two cents anyway. tongue

5/12 saying no to a rule change, and I think it is clear that trashtalk thread would need a rule change due to a possibleity of spoilers, I think this little fiasco is over. It would be possible to argue that team Spullla is effectively one player so it is not fair for their vote to count 3 times but no one is going to do that. Thoth seems to be able to tell them apart and no-one else is aggersive enough to go there.

I started lurking RB a lot just after the second Pitboss started (fall 2009 IIRC)--by no means that far back. But even during the few years I've been around, the site has indeed changed drastically. Back then you could only check in once every day or so, and still easily read every single post made. Each multiplayer game was a major event, because there were only a few going on. Sullla is right; things have really changed. But I see the changes as almost entirely positive. RB Civ, based entirely around a game 6 years old (!!!), now supports what, a dozen or so ongoing MP games? (plus a dozen using FFH)

And the fact of the matter is, even with disputes like the ones that happened in this game, PBEM23, and others, the posts at RB are overwhelmingly on the whole constructive (or at least good-natured wink). The trolls and fools that take up as much as half the posting population on other forums simply do not exist here. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is everyone's favorite perennial punching bag, Dr. Nomadic (alright). The fact that I can even write this whole wall of text, and actually have a hope in hell someone might read all the way through it, is what sets Realms Beyond apart on the interwebs. smile

Then you need to grow up, and realise that actions have consequences.
