[Spoilers] Dreylin's short visit to a late Era

Lurking with interest, and you guys are sure making things fun to watch smile

It's fun to think about how differently wars will proceed when there are fewer cities, and they've only existed for ~25 turns. Most are still on 2nd-ring borders, which combined with boating means that the defender has much less time to muster forces and coordinate a defense. Cool point about logging machine gun deaths, that would serve as a nifty signaling mechanism to the other players.

About BGN; I think that he has been doing what Donovan was doing and Gaspar really should have been doing - i.e. making sure that he's not the target, or has lots of warning if he is. It may take another turn or two, but I think that once he sees that we're committed to hitting Gaspar, he'll dial things back. I've actually been visibly shuffling units away from this area to reinforce that impression - though not so many that we're immediately vulnerable. If we're taking the MG in the Galleon (good thought BTW), I'll keep the last Cav in the area - in sight.

BGN has had our graphs for forever and we're just building towards his now - the reverse is true for Gaspar.

Goats, Rabbits & Chickens will regrow this turn to their Happy Caps - at 10% Drama. Llamas is better off since we didn't Draft it as aggressively, so is currently running without MP and has sizes to grow. I'll Draft it as soon as it's back to s6, then keep it growing - next Settler whip will probably be here.

I'll see if Donovan's Silks are available, although it will be 2t before our 3rd Gems are online. There are Silks 2nd Ring at Robert Bentley, which Gaspar has partially improved, so we can eventually replace those with our own. We will also have Wines from Goldfish in 4-5t once the Worker hooks them up and will also inherit Spices from Gaspar.

I'd love to get a Galleon back to Goldfish to ferry over a couple of additional Workers, but they won't free up for a while from the front - and when they do I want to scout a little North with the first to make certain that scooter doesn't have anything heading our way. The fastest way to get another Worker here would be to whip the SotL into overflow, but I'm not certain that would be enough yet to 1t it. Will check this turn.

On the war front: I wish I had kept the Cavalry back a tile with the Catapults. I didn't think about it until afterwards, but if I were them I'd probably move the Worker 1E of Ducks onto the Corn to see what's coming and then delete it - it can't get far enough away this turn anyway.

If the Rifle moves back towards us, I'll unload the Gren from the second Galleon and take a shot at it - following up with the spare Rifle if needed. If he wanders it away towards the barb city, I'll follow with the Spy. Note that he probably doesn't know that this Barb city spawned with 2Rifles, so may still think he can take it with the lone Rifle. We might need to build a couple more Grens to crack it.

I'm not too concerned about him pillaging the road network since he doesn't have any units! At least this side of Tiger Woods. But I will take 3-4 Workers along with me as there are things they can do in transit, such as chop the forest hill. With luck we'll be able to grab another couple of his, but I won't use the healthy units for that.

I did use a second 5xp Cav to make the final attack, which is doubly unfortunate as it gained 3xp and would have been able to promo-heal if it had 7xp to start. frown But it's still got Charge, which is likely to be a wasted promo against them from this point forward.

I think the logistics for this turn are pretty straightforward:

1) capture Robert Bentley - rename as Geese
2) use GSpy to survey possible reinforcements
3) kill Rifle at Ducks if necessary
4) stack in/near Geese - try to keep full power out of view if possible, use Workers if necessary to add roads

Following turn everything lands in Geese and the stack rolls forwards - Cavs probably move to 887 from Tiger Woods to allow forking with Tom Brady. By this point he'll probably have ~3 Rifles in the area unless he abandons the North and pulls back to the capital. His supply lines are quite long between the two, so reinforcements will take time to arrive.

Oh, and I'm sending the Spy up towards scooter and will bring the Explorer back down from there to send to BGN - he's watching visibly, so we can do the same.

Lets give galleons numbers from right to left. Then the schema is the following:
- G#1 captures the city and moves in, 2 units from it can unload and walk forward by road
- G#2 moves to Ducks and unloads everything, landers move to Geese (gren can kill rifle if necessary). Then G# picks 2 cata and cav from Goats and moves to NW ( G#1 current spot)
- G#4 picks up 2 cavs and MG and moves along with G#3 and transfers cargo to it, then it takes the last cav (actually cav and MG from chickens can reach G#3 by themselves). Both moves as far as they can.

All the cavs moves to Geese, 3 of them we can still hide in.
I am not sure about worker but we will see if it is deleted. He can still send it to the current rifle location or back by the road.

We can use frigate to scout sea, though our cap cant be attacked from the darkness as far as I remember.

Thanks! I'm enjoying this game a lot; the different starting era is a new experience, but I've also been learning a lot from working with OT4E.

Hmmmm, looking at it again, moving onto the Rifle is a decent option. The Rifle will probably stay in place to maintain a view of Robert Bentley to see what we land there, so evacuating the Worker in that direction would be reasonable - it's possible he'd conclude the Rifle to be of more use taking the Barb city (if he doesn't know about Rifles).

Aside: Oh, we still have our free Barb victory in the pocket, don't we? shhh

If he does leave the Rifle in place then I'll stage anything he can't have seen or is likely not to have seen 1N of the city tile. That is out of view of anything except the worker on the Silks - which I can capture with the injured Cav in Ducks if it hasn't moved. Then the tile can be roaded the following turn when they need to move out.

Galleon moves are good - I hadn't thought about fully emptying G2 and reloading, so that's a good catch.

Thanks! I also find this game exciting. I was disappointed first when I missed the starting thread, but now I am happy that I am playing as second number and we can discuss almost every move. This is much more interesting than soloing.

I played some games in later eras, but I must admit that I have never done anything similar, so this is new experience for me and I am opening new pages of civing here.

I think yes, I doubt it can expire after time. Thinking of how to use it in the best way, we can send some wounded unit to get 10 exp.
Btw you were right, Gaspar probably sent his rifle there.

One more thing about workers. We need at least 4 workers in our attack, to road the spot under cavalry stack and road hill to SE from TigerWoods:

I signed up on these forums just to say this is by far the most interesting civ 4 discussion I've ever seen, thanks for the great reporting!
