For the official lurkers that have joined and posted at least once here, you could probably tally the numbers. No way of knowing the exact number of guests that lurk all the threads regularly but don't post and/or haven't joined the site yet. One would assume at least a few dozen; perhaps even as many as a hundred or more.

Quote:Hi again,
Very interesting chat with Mackoti just now. Key thing revealed is that he's intending on going for the Pyramids. That probably makes an attempt by us fairly pointless unless we pull out all the stops right away - i.e. researching Masonry instead of Writing. Even then we'd probably have a high chance of missing out if Mackoti's already started on them (or at least started researching Masonry).
Oddly, Mackoti seems to be feeling fairly down about his position in the game at the moment. Apparently he missed out on circumnavigation by 2 turns, and missed out on Stonehenge by 1 turn. He also claims that his land is poor and blocked off by peaks, although I don't entirely believe him. His land looked pretty good to me when I passed by (and from what I've heard from Luddite about the south of them). He's probably just exaggerating - I'm reasonably confident in Krill's ability to balance an unsymmetrical map like this as much as it's realistically possible. Anyway, I don't quite see why Mackoti's being so negative... perhaps it's just an act. Lord Parkin Wrote:For some amusement while I wait for the next turn to roll around, I decided to figure out which threads had the greatest "interest ranking" for the number of posts. The way I did this was to simply tally up the number of thread views and thread replies at the present moment in time, divide the former by the latter, and compare the numbers to find out who had the greatest number of views per post. Of course, it's not an entirely accurate method of indicating interest (it biases a bit against the thread spammers and biases in favour of the lazy bastards who hardly update What's your actual post count though? You've written quite a lot of posts, even for this forum. Plus you often write a lot in a row, which means someone can read them all in one "view. EDIT - I know your post count, it's now 367 ![]() Irgy Wrote:What's your actual post count though? You've written quite a lot of posts, even for this forum. Plus you often write a lot in a row, which means someone can read them all in one "view.Oh, that's easy to see. In the forum view, you can click on the number of replies for any thread and see the exact breakdown of who's posted what. (Took me a while to figure it out, but it's quite nifty.) For this thread, it's currently: User Name Posts Lord Parkin 246 Irgy 39 Senseless 23 Yamps 15 Bruindane 7 Gold Ergo Sum 7 tizer 5 Krill 4 Cyneheard 3 adrianj 3 fluffyflyingpig 3 novice 2 Ellimist 2 Gazzahk 2 athlete4life10 2 Shoot the Moon 1 Mardoc 1 dinamo 1 Tatan 1 So with 246 posts, that means my posts make up about 67% of the thread. Sounds about right. ![]()
It's interesting looking at the breakdowns for the other spoiler threads, while we're on the subject. In most of them, the official player has about 1/2 to 2/3 of the post count... that seems fairly standard. There are a few exceptions though, for instance where the dedlurker is almost as active as the official player (Gaspar for Nakor, and antisocialmunky for plako)... or even many, many times more active than the official player (Rego for Sunrise

Total number of views seems like a much better indicator of interest. There's no compelling reason to divide it by # of posts.
For example, while I find [certain player you rate highly]'s writing and play to be interesting to read about, I'd be even more interested if he posted more. [Different player, you rate lower]'s style is also quite interesting, and this is bolstered by his frequent updates. (I didn't think it would probably be spoilerish to include the names of mentioned players, but since I'm discussing the spoiler threads extra care was taken.) |
