[Spoilers] REM and AdrienIer's thread of football, spamming and blaming it on the mod

By the way, could you guys turn the resource bubbles on when taking pictures? It makes it easier for the lurkers. nod

Or pulling off killing an axe! Tbf I didn't think we had any lurkers, so I was just posting for mine and ads sake - I think the length of this thread will put most of the others off reading this after the game :P I will turn them on next posts though (the last 2 turns I played I am about to post now without them again)

Since we have a lurker though, who I guess has at least skimmed the thread to know what is happening - do you think it was worth the gamble to try and claim the plains hill spot that GJ settled? Purely looking at fastest expansion, clearly CN should have been the first settle, to share the corn and use the fish/silver. But I think the defensive capabilities of taking that site made it worthwhile trying to push for. I ask now as I wanted to know if it was a bit pie in the sky... I think in hindsight we may have struggled to hold it and had a war of attrition to zilch.

In the end things aren't looking too bad at 3 city with a religion, although there was a fair bit of luck landing that latish poly. But you would agree that our copper being tundra and away from any contested land is pretty rubbishly placed compared to GJ copper in a great second city? (which if I had their start, would have gone on the corn to pick up whales too and a bonus on the tile)

Yeah, that sums up Balotelli perfectly. lol

I can't really comment too much on the game, because I'm globally spoiled. I think I'd go with CN first, because it's a faster second city, like you've said.

I also don't think it's worth to settle a city on top of the corn. A 5 food tile is too good to waste and you can easily irrigate it after Civil Service. The whale doesn't make up for the food lost. Perhaps if the grain was rice and the whale was a fish, I'd consider it.

I think you have some advantages to use. 2 silvers give a very good early commerce boost, that you can use to get some techs out of the usual beelines. You have marble for a wonder or two. You have quite a bit of food to settle (I'd focus on getting cities with good first ring food). Focus on some of them and I think you can do quite well.

No worries, if you think it is spoilerish then fair enough. I was more just asking as we pushed for that site anyway and missed out on it, so it won't change our play now whether you think you would or wouldn't have tried for it. I do think it was perhaps a bit fanciful now, but we did not lose too much out of it. We have a good border set up now, giving them loads of land to settle into :/

Re the corn, bare in mind that it is only a 2 food loss not a 3 food loss, as you gain 1 food via settling on it. Plus the whales are valuable here as early happy, and give a 3/1/2 with lighthouse tile, so pre civil service only a 1 food loss which is offset by hammers and commerce. Also it brings in the copper first ring too. Long term though I agree that that site is probably better.

But yes after the need to settle for the copper, will settle for the sheep and take it from there. Probably go for that wheat first ring for ICTRs if there are no other players close by.

I am following, albeit globally, but do appreciate the updates. Good luck! popcorn

Thanks, I think we need it :P little trapped here, see what we can do to break out! At least we have an interesting UU to use to do so. It is nice to have some lurker comments to keep the reporting focused.

T53 (Sorry forgot to turn on resource bubbles, will try and remember next turn!)

This turn I moved Messi and noticed something rather strange...

Clearly no-one has been here yet. You cannot pass this site from what I can see not noticing the hut, so clearly anyone would have moved to pick this up.

I double checked GJ EP spending and they clearly have met someone else, so I rechecked anywhere we could have missed people.

It's rather low res here, but the tile SE of the lake if you look closely there is a river in the fogged corner. I guess as we zoomed up the left side of the coast we missed this area. I assume this must be where there the other person they met is, as I cannot see it have being from anywhere else.

Power graph checked, we are pretty equal with no spikes, so no axes coming our way yet!

The smallish empire -

EA - started a lighthouse, will grow next turn. Working corn/clam. Will grow again in 3 turns I believe too.
MCG - chopped into the granary. Will whip it next turn. Not the best time to whip the granary but I think it is better than leaving the city grow and then whipping.
CN - changed to a worker, as then we can have the copper up as soon as the city is settled.

Barb warrior moved onto the hill, so I dashed into the forest. at 1.7 +50% I feel that we will have a decent chance of winning. Also moved the other warrior to cover should we lose and take up the spawnbusting mantle.

Excited for the other hut now! (What's the betting it's a map?) You have any ideas that you think I am missing here Ad?

Wouh I'm finally back, up to date and ready to spam. First, sorry for no turn 50 summary but 1) it's mostly irrelevant and the turn 100 one will have more interest, and 2) there's nothing much to say, we got hindu which is nice but except for Plako being in a nice position there's nothing much to say. Only thing of note is Commodore and mackoti being last but I don't think it'll last for much longer.

I'll hop in the game this afternoon after the Manchester derby to see if there's anything I can spot. All I see now is that we should maybe reduce our research next turn to just finish hunting and save some money to get double prereq bonus on AH.

Edit : Actually it's probably done right now as I see that your last screenshot is 2 days old

I know! Sorry, on this weekend so tight for turn playing time. 3 turns have passed. Summary is not huge amount happening, another working nt due. Settler in 3 turns for a 2 pop cap whip.

Met England (gavagi?) and got 26 gold from that hut.

Ok there's a lot to say about the game. First we got 26 gold out of the hut, and at least it's not a map. 26 gold is probably one of the lowest amount you can get from a hut (isn't it 25 ?) but it'll fuel our research for about 8 turns. We have 2 granaries and lighthouses in the making (1 in MCG, one on hold in EA). We definitely need culture in CN to get the second silver, pig and crab, what can we sacrifice to the RNG god for a hindu spread ?

I think we're also low on military stuff now that we have a new settler in production and GJ having a ~10h spike in his graphs a few turns ago when he hooked his copper (and probably grew a couple cities as well).

Finally the most important info is that we met gavagai (HC of England), and he met GJ as well !

EP is 2/2 because GJ is our only neighbour and I'd rather keep seeing his research. Finally here's the northern island being scouted by our scouting WB :

I'm also happy to announce that we're first in GNP, and by a good margin. Our culture output is 8pt so we're first in commerce. I like our silver even more now !

Edit : Ah didn't see your answer...

I have inter turn photos and my thought, will post them in 4-5hrs. Did you see GJ got our religion in his city! frown
