Are you on gmail right now? I just hopped on it to the middle of a chat I think. So weird

The Chat Wrote:me: Top of the evening to ya
11 minutes
7:04 PM Mehmed: sorry was afk
7:05 PM me: np
what's new over there in holy-otto-rome?
Mehmed: Aztecs made peace with Inca
me: I just saw in the IT thread... do you have inside info?
7:06 PM Mehmed: well they were at an impasse
Inca couldn't gain enough of an advantage to warrant continuing the war
7:07 PM and I guess they want to prepare for when we come for them
me: for exactly the reasons we discussed last night?
smart move
Mehmed: refresh my memory?
ooh, turn might roll over
7:08 PM me: good, krill will be happy.
refreshing memory: you mentioned inca didn't bundle units well.
Mehmed: well that and Ottomans coming out of nowhere and killing an axe
7:09 PM me: lol that doesn't hurt
Mehmed: any news from the south?
you met Maya already or not?
7:10 PM me: zippidy doo da. i still only have mali. i've been spending more time looking for CAN members.. about 5-6 turns out from france according to CHASM
Mehmed: good
me: They on the other hand have met 3 or 4 CANT members (CHASM I mean)
7:11 PM Mehmed: yeah they told me
me: I don't know if I mentioned, but I have an NAP with Mali through T83.. but I'm sure war will be declared on T83
Mehmed: how are your defenses?
well by then you'll have horse archers running around
me: all hilltop cities, not much for units yet but I will have lots of NCs then
7:12 PM If they take us out, it'll be a painfully long, drawn out affair
they won't want to war us.
7:13 PM /propaganda
Mehmed: hehe
7:14 PM me: refresh my memory... how close is the HRE to us border-wise? should we be having a border discussion soon?
7:15 PM Mehmed: depends, are the borders where we met your capital city?
7:17 PM me: hmm. i don't remember where we met, and can't seem to find a pic
Mehmed: you met England there as well for the first time
7:18 PM me: ah.. no, that's not our capital. that city is about 5 tiles east of our cap.
Mehmed: well then we should probably be fine for a while
7:19 PM plenty of land remaining to fill
me: good. we were up pretty tight against krill.
Yeah, I was on GMail. Now you see what I mean about how weird watching your chat was. After the above stuff the topic moved to Maya not ending turn, and then real life talk.
The only thing of consequence is that Inca decided to offer peace because the war didn't go so well. The only danger is if Maya finds us and declares war in the next 15 or so turns while we don't have any defenses.

Do you think war will actually be declared on t83, or was that just diplo talk? There seems to be an awfully wide gap between us at this point for war to be worth it for anyone (by the time they could possibly move units across the gap, we would be approaching the next age of units).
I think we should probably start getting out a sentry net anyways.

Mostly just diplo talk, but I take Swiss seriously when he signs a one-line NAP "you can declare on us T83 or vice versa". I don't want a cold war situation, but I do want us to be a tough nut to crack if they decide to attack that soon.

I have a couple signs in game indicating a preliminary sentry net. I'll send one of our warriors in that direction, since we have an extra, and once we have horses online we can start using chariots. Playing T64 as we speak, but won't end turn in case there are changes necessary.

First, good news... we are #2 in GNP this turn at 47, 45 of which is research. Considering #1 GNP is 49, I would be willing to bet that we are #1 research civ right now. Of course, we are at 100% beakers, but still. And of course, this is before furs come online and before the capital grows into 2 more cottages...
Picture time:
Next turn, the cottage warrior will move north to garrison Lakewood. Meanwhile, Lakewood current garrison will move NE and guard the gold against the incoming barb. Unless the barb gives him the chance to defend on forest hill.
Preliminary sentry net. If we wind up with a cow/wine city soon, I will push hard for a walls there.
[Edit] Thanks again for the alt-i tip, Novice!

Lakewood should be working a lake, not the rice I think (to get math done). I'll log in and change that.

Good catch. I knew I posted those screenies for a good reason!

What will be nice for our sentry net is that once we get HBR, Numidian Cavalry can be upgraded to sentry with their first promo.

I'm counting down the turns. Having watched how important fast-movers are in other MP games on RB, I am very excited to see NCs in action.

The promotion options on NC's are interesting (and something we should probably figure out). They start with flanking I out of the gate, so assuming that we have a barracks and a stable we have a couple of intriguing options. Flanking II will give them a 50% withdrawl chance (so I suspect most will go Flanking II on most). After that, we can either go Sentry, Mobility (for interesting sneak attacks) or strength I. It might be good to check if going strength I+II is better in some situations than Flanking II and strength I (I doubt it, but it might be good to check).
The one thing with NC's is that because they withdraw more than they outright win, it will be important to have a good medic, and to also try to be fighting with a good road network so we can hit and get back into the cities. My take is that NC's are much more of a defensive unit than an offensive one (which is fine, having a "get the hell out of our land" unit is never a bad thing, especially as we are fin/exp and want to be expanding, not conquering, at this point).
