Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 1:  RAPNUX Is Back

Before starting this playthrough, I looked at the Custom Mode settings.  A monotype team would naturally need a higher level than HERMAN's balanced team, and there was an option to boost experience gain.  Unfortunately, the lowest amount was 50%, and that would have made the challenge too easy.  I wanted something more like 20%.  So Story Mode it was, with the "No Battle Items" restriction on the honor system as with HERMAN.

Since it was going to be a team of all Normal types, I named the player character HARDING after the early 1920s president who campaigned on a "return to normalcy".  He picked DINJA as his starter and lost to GRALOON the Mineral dragon, but did so with style.  Rocky Rift knocked GRALOON down to 579/616 HP as DINJA dodged a Meteor Shower.  Fire Claw totaled DINJA for 26 damage, more than its 22 HP at Level 6.

"Rocky Rift" doesn't sound like a move a Normal starter would begin the game with.  Nexomon Extinction's Normal type is superficially similar to Pokemon's, but has a few differences from the inspiration.  Normal types in this game have no resistances and are weak to Psychic and Ghost.  Their advantage as a monotype team is that their offense is versatile.  Monsters of other elements get their own type + Normal attacks.  Individual Normal types can have any other element as their "secondary" offensive type.  In DINJA's case it was Mineral.

HARDING caught SKUNQUTE in the tutorial cave, and other Nexomon like RUBBY, CALFTER, CLODDY, and MOGA before advancing the story.  HARDING's next destination was the beaches of Palmaya.  My team was weak enough at this point that its real strength was in having 6 members.  This changed quickly when HARDING captured a Level 5 PAUPO, who started with the 120 power Incinerate!  PAUPO was good enough to fight some tamers solo while walking to Parum, such as one with a Level 5 CLODDY and a Level 5 MASQUITI (Psychic).  PAUPO will be the designated Ghost killer.

HARDING found a Level 5 GRIFF around Parum, and consulted the move relearner to determine who would be cut from the team.  SKUNQUTE and CLODDY had redundant Mineral moves, MOGA had nothing worthwhile.  GRUFF had Wind as its secondary offense type, but RAPNUX was superior for that niche.  A GOATEEZE caught afterwards knew Electric attacks.  CALFTER would remain on the team for its unique (so far) Plant move selection, which would give the Normals a chance against Psychics.

DINJA finally learned a Normal type attack after reaching Level 8:  Palm Flurry.  Starter Pokemon tend to have the opposite problem where they only have Normal moves until they gain a few levels (i.e. Bulbasaur in Red and Vine Whip.)

HARDING took a detour to Drake Isles and subdued a BASIL, which probably had better potential than GOATEEZE as an Electric attacker.  As of the end of this episode, it was disappointing in battle.  I spent far more time than I should have looking for a RAPNUX in the Outlands, only to realize that I forgot to activate the quest to send it into the wild in Parum's laboratories!   shakehead

The scientist sent out a Level 9 FLOROZARD, a Level 9 DIVETTE (Psychic), and a Level 9 HYPHOON (Wind).  PAUPO cast Incinerate twice on FLOROZARD until it couldn't stand the heat and retreated to DIVETTE.  Psychic Blast almost killed PAUPO, but it used the last of its Stamina to Incinerate DIVETTE.  BASIL's Electrode dealt a disappointing 5 damage to HYPHOON even with an Effective multiplier, and the baby dragon had to tag out before Spinning Kick sent it back to its Nexotrap.  CALFTER Stunned HYPHOON for a round as if it had Headbutted a Pokemon, and Scratched FLOROZARD to death.  DINJA hit itself in confusion once before ending the battle with a Palm Flurry.

HARDING finally got his RAPNUX at Level 6 and found to his joy that it already started with Double Slash.  Why didn't HERMAN's RAPNUX get any Normal moves until the late 20s?  It was a good time to end the session.  In the next episode, the Normals will beat up a weakened NIVALIS in Frozen Lake and hopefully find another member.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 2:  Finding the Sixth Party Member

HARDING explored the Vault #8 cave in the Outlands to gain the Tribute of Nature, but it was mostly an excuse to mine for Shards and level up RAPNUX.  It didn't take much effort since RAPNUX already had stats comparable to an evolved Nexomon.

Frozen Tundra didn't have many Normal types to search for.  HARDING only seemed to run into GRIFF and DINJA.  It had many tamers and bandits who yielded experience when the party beat them senseless.  CALFTER was an early bloomer that evolved into CALPLEX at Level 11 after a team of CRUFF and LEECHY (Wind) was killed.

I looked in the Database (i.e. Pokedex) at some of the Normal types, and found that MOGA the dog and CANDLY the dragonfly (?) had terrible stats and would never evolve.  Maybe some challenge playthrough in the distant future will feature them?  The fact most relevant to my team was that PAUPO wouldn't evolve until Level 40!  No wonder the developers gave it Incinerate as a starting move.   scared

BASIL learned Super Punch while still in the Frozen Tundra, and CALPLEX gained Leaf Dance, a 100 power and 100 accuracy, and 45 speed Plant attack.  Not bad for Level 14!  After Super Punching a tamer's LARKITO (Wind) mosquito to death, BASIL grew to Level 15 and evolved into WYSIL.

I finally looked up what the "Companion" items do.  They make a (non-combat) Nexomon follow you on the overworld, but not very closely.  HARDING chose PAUPO as a Companion.  DINJA beat down the missing Outland girl's CROO (Wind) bird and ALGON (Plant) seahorse with Palm Flurry, and RAPNUX Double Slashed the CHIRRENT (Electric) Chocobo ripoff.  DINJA evolved into DICHALA at Level 15 after this battle.

HARDING wandered in the southern desert for a while looking for a sixth Nexomon.  He seemed to find one when he saw a TAIPLUFF, but learned at the move relearner that its second attack type was Electric.  That would have been redundant with WYSIL in the party, so instead I looked on this site to find a better Normal type for the team.  A POYAL wearing a sailor suit cast Water Blast at RAPNUX as I was catching it, as if it were desperate to join the King of Monsters.

CALPLEX had far more trouble with a Frozen Lake region tamer due to being Paralyzed for many turns against a Level 10 SMANIC (Electric).  It had a better performance against NIVALIS (88/176 HP) and gashed it for about 19 per Leaf Dance.  Without any resistances, CALPLEX could only last a few rounds against 10-15 damage Water Blast and Hydro Sphere, so I swapped to POYAL hoping to gain experience.  POYAL had to switch out to WYSIL on the first turn instead.  WYSIL's Static Burst shocked NIVALIS for 13 damage until he could Scratch the Tyrant to death for 9 damage.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 3:  PUGGARD Salutes Its Enemies

POYAL, CALPLEX, and PAUPO defeated the cultists in the Orphanage with Water Blast, Leaf Dance, and Incinerate respectively.  A tamer battle in the Haunted Woods leveled POYAL to 15, giving it both Plasma Cannon and an evolution into the perpetually saluting guard dog PUGGARD.  It rapidly grew to be the highest level member of the team since Water was such a versatile attacking type.  Water was also Effective against Ghosts, which were both common in this section and one of Normal's weaknesses.

HARDING was only allowed to USE Normal types in his playthrough, but that didn't prohibit him from selling a DREAVER (Psychic) and a GRIFF (Normal) to an evil tree in exchange for a Vault Key, a Golden Nexotrap, and tier II Experience and Greed Cores.

In the battle with Hannah in Immortal Citadel, WYSIL was disappointing against Level 12 CRONCHO since its best Electric move, Static Burst, only had 60 power.  PUGGARD's Water Blast drowned the Level 12 WORB (Mineral) and even CRONCHO.  HARDING and Coco both thought it was embarrassing that they beat up the rightful recipient of the letter.

PUGGARD was so strong, it managed to fight the 100 HP MONKAPOW (Normal) in Immortal Citadel solo.  PAUPO may have been unevolved, but its Incinerate carried it through a 122 HP CARCAROS (Ghost) and a 92 HP FOLICURSE (Ghost) solo.  After defeating the Nexomon that Eliza had secretly released into town, HARDING had to confront the cultists again.

The cultist kidnapper opened with a Level 16 DRACLY (Wind) that DICHALA slapped down with Palm Flurries.  PAUPO set Level 15 RIPHA (Ghost) on fire with Incinerate and lost around half its HP to Ghost moves.  Mind Control and Psychic Blast from Level 14 MASQAT (Psychic) were too much for my alleged "Psychic counter" CALPLEX to handle, and it had to tag out to RAPNUX.  RAPNUX suffered against MASQAT:  it was at red HP when a final Gust blew away the Psychic starter's middle form.

PUGGARD reported for duty when Level 14 GRIMMON (Ghost) appeared and managed to kill the grim reaper with two Water Blasts.  Unfortunately, it had no defense against Arcane Curse and later fell in the line of duty when hit by Level 14 IMBURION (Fire) spewed Flame Breath.  WYSIL Super Punched IMBURION until it switched to PAUPO, who finished off the cultist's last monster with a Double Slash.

HARDING entered the Vault #2 cave near Immortal Citadel and fought wild Nexomon like GRADOW (Ghost) to gain experience.  The key item in Vault #2 was the Tribute of Decay, if anyone cares.  DICHALA's Palm Flurries against a Level 17 HOHOPI (Normal) made a ghost give up Nexomon taming forever, but at least it finished a quest.  A difficult battle against a tamer's Level 17 MINET (Psychic) gave RAPNUX Gusty Storm, a 110 power Wind attack with 95 accuracy.

The Normal types arrived at Grunda's Chasm after walking through the desert.  They warped back to Parum to create more Synergy Core III crystals with spare Shards in order to share experience when not participating directly in combat.  Now HARDING was preparing to descend into New Ignitia to battle NIVALIS and MULCIMER. . .

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 4:  RAPNUX Is MVP

HARDING knew his team wouldn't defeat New Ignitia's Tyrants at HERMAN's levels, so he went spelunking in Vault #3 to gain the Tribute of Blaze and make WYSIL punch out the PEBLEM (Mineral) population.  I'd forgotten to mine the healing crystal before Atlanta, so some members were exhausted in time for the boss battle.   shakehead

CALPLEX's Leaf Dance partner was a Level 16 BLIZZARM (Water).  NIVALIS entered the ballroom at Level 17 with 177 HP, and had enough energy to outlast CALPLEX's 24-26 strength Leaf Dance and Vine Whip.  NIVALIS sprayed Water Blast and Bubble Attack for 13-23 until CALPLEX switched to WYSIL.  WYSIL's Static Burst only tickled NIVALIS for 17, and Water Blast doused the dragon for 25, but somehow NIVALIS was scared enough to tag out to Level 18 DOMIGATOR.  DOMIGATOR had a Water Blast comparable to NIVALIS's, and WYSIL stayed in for a Static Burst.

RAPNUX Demotivated its former teammate with a Double Slash and then Scratched it to death.  PAUPO turned on Incinerate against Level 20 HYPHOON (Water) until NIVALIS returned.  Sleep Song was completely useless against the Tyrant, who drowned PAUPO with a Water Blast.  WYSIL suffered the same fate after a final Electrode.  RAPNUX Scratched HYPHOON, then Double Slashed, Scratched, and blew a Gust to eliminate NIVALIS.  If NIVALIS hadn't missed occasionally, HARDING probably would have lost.

HARDING's Normalcy may have succeeded against Atlanta, but it was hopeless against a FONA (Fire) with 271 HP.  Fenrir's true form destroyed each team member one by one with 41 damage Incinerates, with the occasional 13 damage Scratch taunt and 34 damage Double Slash.  RAPNUX held on to life until FONA fell to 45 HP, but one last Incinerate cremated my last Nexomon.

DEATH COUNT:  1

My whole team was at Levels 20-22, so it was time to travel the world and power level.  For a town hostile to the Tamer's Guild, Lateria surprisingly lets you in early in the game.  You can't explore every location without Merida's Water powers, but you can go as far as the bridge west of PETRAM's screen.  HARDING traded for an Exp Booster in this area and found the Precious Ring for the woman on the Frozen Tundra bridge.  Enemy tamer levels had scaled up to 21 since HARDING had last been on the surface, probably because he had beaten Atlanta and NIVALIS.

PAUPO replaced Sleep Song with NOOCIDAL's Invincible.  Without Leech, this stalling tactic probably won't be as effective, but maybe something could be accomplished with Burning from Incinerate.  In Frozen Tundra, CALPLEX dumped Vine Whip for Heal, which restores 100 HP for 25 Stamina and has 100 turn order priority.  HARDING exchanged some of his spare Shards in the Parum laboratory for the final Synergy Core III.

Round 2 against FONA started with a Level 23-26 party.  DICHALA began by summoning 29 damage Meteor Strikes until it was low on HP and tagged out to PAUPO.  FONA's Incinerate still seared each Nexomon for up to 44 damage at worst.  PAUPO's Incinerate failed to inflict Burning status, and my pseudo Fire type fell to a Scratch.  PUGGARD should have been the star when it knew Water Blast, but it only dripped on FONA for 23-27 damage, and Incinerate scorched the dog for 43.  FONA's Double Slash bisected PUGGARD.

WYSIL put on its boxing gloves and threw Super Punches for 26 damage until Burn charred it death for 39.  CALPLEX was once at only 9 HP until it cast Heal.  One round hurt the cow less than usual, so CALPLEX took the chance to Bite for 15 before retreating to RAPNUX.  My best Nexomon was Burning after an Incinerate and didn't have long to live, but Double Slash and a final Scratch earned HARDING the power of Fire.

Jin started his Tyrant fight with a Level 23 KEROSION (Fire).  DICHALA rained Meteor Strikes on it, but a Rocky Rift left it at 1 HP instead of smothering its flame.  DICHALA released a Palm Flurry against Level 22 BISINA (Normal) and fell into red HP.  RAPNUX Double Slashed the remainder of BISINA's HP and Scratched KEROSION to death.  PUGGARD barely managed to kill Level 22 GRATH (Fire) with Water Blast and Splash after taking 22 damage Flame Breath and 15 damage Bite.

CALFTER dueled Jin's Level 21 RESONIC (Electric) with Leaf Dance for a while.  Level 23 MULCIMER with 243 health didn't have feet, so CALFTER settled for 28 damage Double Slash and an 18 Bite.  WYSIL's Super Punches clobbered MULCIMER until the Fire Tyrant was down to 56 HP.  PAUPO made its own token appearance and Double Slashed MULCIMER.  A final Double Slash from RAPNUX for 39 weakened MULCIMER enough for Lydia to blow it away in a cutscene.

WYSIL is the most disappointing member of the team so far.  Characters in the game constantly talk about how powerful dragons are, but so far it's not better than any other Normal.  PUGGARD's low DEF makes it less effective against Fire types than I had hoped, but perhaps it gets better once it reaches its final evolution.

DICHALA was underwhelming for a while, but it's more relevant now after learning Meteor Strike.  PAUPO is entering the "doldrums" because of not being able to evolve until 40, and many of the Nexomon in the New Ignitia story are Mineral or Fire.

CALPLEX also suffers from many enemies not caring about its secondary type, but Heal gives it a niche as a defensive Nexomon.  RAPNUX is by far the best monster on the team, probably since you have to complete an (easy) sidequest to catch it.  RAPNUX has the HP and DEF to withstand enemies and the ATK to Double Slash or Gusty Storm them to pieces.  It's also one of the few Normal types to learn the 150 power attack Disruption Ray at the end of the game.  (Though VADOS is a Ghost type, making Normal a weak attacking element for the final boss. . .)

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 5:  In Which 5 Nexomon Are Needed To Beat A Legendary

PUGGARD continued to disappoint in the beginning of the episode by losing to a tamer's RUSTUNG (Mineral) that it had both an attack type and level advantage against.  Hopefully its low DEF will be cured when it finally evolves.  HARDING ransacked Vault #4 for its Tribute of Mind, though he appreciated the Shards in the mine more.

Rival tamers in Drake Isles had trained while HARDING was away, and were now comparable to my team at Level 24-26.  The Nexolords attacked, and the one who fought HARDING started with a Level 26 FLOROZARD.  PAUPO singed it with Incinerate and forced a switch to Level 26 SIRNYMFA (Water).  CALPLEX offered to be the mermaid's Leaf Dance partner, but it rejected CALPLEX with Splashes, Frost Bites, and Hydro Spheres until the cow was at 26 HP.

CALPLEX still had enough Stamina after SIRNYMFA to set up a Heal against a Level 25 SORVIAN (Wind) that whiffed a Super Punch.  HARDING switched to PAUPO, and barely had enough HP to cast one Incinerate before tagging out to WYSIL.  The dragon shocked SORVIAN with Static Burst and Electrode and made SORVIAN plant a Level 25 OUTGROV before retreating.  RAPNUX tried to uproot OUTGROV and CALPLEX fought FLOROZARD, though some mild Splashes from PUGGARD finished the battle.

One random tamer came with a Level 26 VOLTAIC (Electric) with high stats and a fierce Plasma Star.  CALPLEX evolved into BULLOGAN upon reaching Level 28 after that victory.  HARDING defeated the difficult tamer battle needed to enter Drake Isles's town and traded for an Exp Booster.  The next Vault was inaccessible due to the lack of the Wind power, but at least some Shards were available.  By this point, enemies were carrying (sometimes underleveled) fully evolved Nexomon, such as NAMANSI the final form of my starter DINJA.  Maybe they all took lessons from Lance in Johto.

Traveling to Palmaya's beaches to power level was worth it when DICHALA evolved into NAMANSI and WYSIL transformed into TARRAGON.  (Why isn't the BASIL line Plant type to match the pun?)  In case all of this seems excessive to the readers, it wasn't.  If you discount the underdeveloped PAUPO, HARDING's entire team was necessary to defeat a DRACON boss with 345 HP.

DRACON's Fire moves such as Explosion and Suncore could hit for 40 damage each, and there was no hope of exhausting its Stamina.  For comparison, a Water Blast from PUGGARD drenched DRACON for around 34, and NAMANSI's Meteor Strike conked it on the head for 40.  BULLOGAN had the honor of slaying DRACON with a 26 power Bite while still in good health.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 6:  Wind Tyrants

PUGGARD was the last Nexomon on HARDING's team that could reasonably evolve.  I warped back to New Ignitia and fought the Fire and Mineral types there until PUGGARD became BRAUNCER.  BRAUNCER's stat distribution allayed my concerns about HP and DEF. . .but the ATK stat was low relative to the rest of the party.

TARRAGON took the lead against Nadine's 358 true form VENTRA.  Electrode jolted it down to 287 HP, though 43 damage Glaze was too cold to endure for long.  PAUPO popped out of its Nexotrap just long enough to launch a 34 power Incinerate before being forced to retreat.  Glazes chilled RAPNUX as it sliced with Double Slash for 46 a couple of times.  NAMANSI's Plasma Star was the best Normal move available at this point, since it once shone on VENTRA for a 72 critical.  Plasma Star defeated VENTRA and gave HARDING the ability to jump across gaps with Wind.

HARDING took a detour to the Tribute of Tempest Vault and found a useful item for a change:  an Ultra Pickaxe.  The description said rocks would yield more Shards while it was in the inventory.  The Normals will need their Experience Core III if they want to level efficiently at the end of the game, and Shards are required to craft those.

TARRAGON's Electrode zapped Lydia's starting Level 28 DRATTER (Wind).  BULLOGAN's Leaf Danced around Level 31 VOLTAIC (Electric) and reduced it to around half HP.  Lydia's next choice was odd for someone who had to find an answer to Plant damage:  Level 28 BLIZZAUR (Water).  Leaf Dances and a finisher Bite crunched BLIZZAUR, and one last Leaf Dance slew VOLTAIC.  BULLOGAN cast Heal to restore its HP when EURUS the Wind Tyrant entered the arena.

BULLOGAN's Double Slash and Bite seemed like they dealt heavy damage to EURUS. . .until it suddenly Healed.  Slashing Current reduced BULLOGAN to critical HP without any Stamina to Heal, so it switched to TARRAGON.  One Electrode sent EURUS running to Level 31 OREGOON (Mineral), whom RAPNUX eroded with Gusty Storm and Gust.  RAPNUX still had enough HP for a Double Slash or two against EURUS before a critical Slashing Current reduced it to critical HP.  NAMANSI shot Plasma Stars at EURUS until HARDING won the battle, though my starter had only 12 HP left.

Now it seems BULLOGAN is the star of the team.  If it could restore its own Stamina, BULLOGAN could probably fight some bosses solo.  Will PAUPO make up for a weak midgame when it evolves?

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 7:  Betraying The Tamer's Guild

Today's session lasted a long time, and there are too many events to account for in one post.  A thunderstorm may happen soon anyway, and I'll need to shut down my computer if that happens.  Stats and Equipment will be in the final post of the session.

HARDING took a detour inside the Drake Isles abandoned laboratory to find a Workout Charm (passive Stamina recovery after battle) and an Exp Booster.

BRAUNCER shot Water Blasts at Ross's Level 29 NEKGIRI (Fire) until it died, and also managed to take out the Level 29 CALPLEX after taking a Vine Whip and Bind damage.  BRAUNCER may not have the power of other evolved Nexomon on the team, but it certainly takes hits better than PUGGARD!  PAUPO Incinerated a Level 31 SINGLETTI (Plant) in an attempt to gain participation experience, though BULLOGAN's Leaf Dance was needed to handle Level 30 KAMELEVO (Electric).  BULLOGAN finished the battle by Double Slashing SINGLETTI, pausing to Heal, then Biting the Plant to death.  PAUPO leveled up and replaced Invincible with Burn, a slow Fire move with a 30% Burning side effect chance.

TARRAGON won a duel with Nora's Level 31 SNAIFLOW (Water) by spewing Electrodes at it.  RAPNUX's Gusty Storm and Gust uprooted Level 30 SINGLETTE (Plant) with only minor damage taken.  BRAUNCER was weary after the Ross battle, so NAMANSI had to pelt Level 30 IMBUZI (Fire) with Meteor Strike as the unofficial Mineral type.  RAPNUX returned to besiege Nora's Level 28 FORTOISE (Mineral) with Gusty Storm and win the battle.

Once Nora and Ross realized that Amelie had tricked them about the VADOS project, Nora forgave HARDING by giving him a Protection Core II.  I gave it to NAMANSI for a DEF boost.  HARDING returned to the Orphanage region and leaped across a pond with the Wind power to loot Vault #7 and its Tribute of Thunder.  My Ultra Pickaxe showed its power when ores started to yield 2 or 3 Shards.

In Frozen Tundra, the Wind power let HARDING reach an Exp Booster.  TARRAGON replaced Static Burst with the inaccurate Twin Electrode with 80 power.  This would often let the Normal dragon down in fights, but at least the enemies missed their attacks as well.  (Nexomon don't aim their moves as well as Pokemon.)

HARDING's Fire power melted an icicle and opened the way to Ulzar's cave.  PAUPO managed to Incinerate most of Level 34 FLOROZARD's health bar before retreating, and RAPNUX's Gusty Wind sent the Plant back to its Nexotrap.  BULLOGAN's Leaf Dance exhausted Level 34 DIVETTE (Psychic) and made it switch out.  Even 48 damage Psy Geysers weren't threatening when it Healed after Level 34 MONKAPOW (Normal) showed up.  RAPNUX's Double Slash and Gust clobbered MONKAPOW, though the fox was punch-drunk from Pummel.  RAPNUX was fast enough to guarantee the Gust to finish off DIVETTE and then rested for the rest of the fight.

NAMANSI stared down Ulzar's own Level 34 RAPNUX, but lost the duel when its Plasma outran my starter's Rocky Rift.  NAMANSI's sacrifice put RAPNUX at critical HP after multiple Plasma Stars, and BRAUNCER's Splash soaked it.  BRAUNCER's Water Blast assault drenched a Level 32 BLIZSTRONG (Mineral) as it took heavy damage from Rocknite Burst and Energy Strike.  TARRAGON's Super Punch was actually more effective against Level 34 HYPHOON than a super effective Electrode (43-47 vs. 33).  The Wind dragon would have beaten my Normal dragon with Gusty Storm if I hadn't switched to BULLOGAN, who triumphed with a Double Slash.

The reward for defeating Ulzar in this optional battle was a Vault Key.  I seek out the Vaults more for items like the Ultra Pickaxe than the Tributes which are probably useless before the postgame.  And you tend to find Shards in their caves.  Some of those Shards were converted into an Experience Core III.

The cultist inside the Frozen Tundra lodge opened with a Level 32 MALITRESS (Ghost), which PAUPO almost Incinerated to death.  Level 32 PHANTRA (Ghost) made PAUPO tag out to BRAUNCER, the other Ghost "counter".  BRAUNCER drowned PHANTRA with a Water Blast after falling to about half HP after Phantom Abyss.  Splash dripped on MALITRESS for the kill.  (When you're working with Normal types, a secondary attack element is the best you've got.)

Level 34 LUKUMA (Normal) wasted two of its turns on marginal buffs like Elemental Up and Recover, which gave BULLOGAN the opportunity to Leaf Dance around the cultist.  Level 33 EQOLOPTERA (Electric) was weak to Plant and a poor choice to defeat BULLOGAN.  EQOLOPTERA realized this and switched to Level 35 LUMEFUR after descending to critical HP.  BULLOGAN Healed itself and switched to BRAUNCER.  Attrition from Incinerate injured BRAUNCER before it could drown LUMEFUR with Water Blast, and NAMANSI dropped a Meteor Strike on the Fire cat.  NAMANSI's Rocky Rift poked EQOLOPTERA and won the battle against the cultists.

PAUPO was invaluable in the first BLIZSTRONG battle in western Frozen Tundra.  Burn's ailment reduced the Mineral Nexomon's HP by 24 per round.  Effects like Leech, Bind, and Burning are as good as a second attack per round if you use them on a boss or Tyrant.  Even BRAUNCER's Water Blasts failed to put out the flames, and it was Burn rather than brawn that killed BLIZSTRONG.

Burn did NOT succeed against the 2nd BLIZSTRONG, though BRAUNCER managed to douse it with some Water Blasts.  BLIZSTRONG was susceptible to RAPNUX's Wind moves, so Gusty Storm blew it away after multiple rounds.

The weightlifting robot in the bunker had an unexpected superpower:  kicking me out of the game and forcing me to reload a save shortly after the 2nd form's IMMORTIS mummy appeared.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 8

Weightlifting Robot's Level 32 IMMORTIS (Ghost) caused the game to crash with its mere presence, so PAUPO wasn't taking any chances.  Burning the mummy's bandages caused it to switch out to Level 32 GRATH (Fire) as I sent in BULLOGAN.  Two Double Slashes and a Bite knocked out the ape (?) and IMMORTIS reappeared.

IMMORTIS was still Burning even if the turns spent in the Nexotrap froze time and prevented it from taking damage.  Leaf Dances unwrapped IMMORTIS and summoned Level 34 KAMELEVO (Electric), who was weak to BULLOGAN's Plant attacks.  Two Leaf Dances exhausted the chameleon and defeated Weightlifting Robot with BULLOGAN at red HP.  Once again the cow was the best Nexomon!

BULLOGAN came to the rescue again when Xanders attacked Deena.  Level 35 SHARDBERG (Psychic) was vulnerable to Leaf Dance and fainted in 3 hits.  Psy Bomb would have been dangerous at 41 damage if BULLOGAN couldn't Heal whenever it wanted to.  Any hopes of PAUPO fighting Level 34 CENTEROR (Ghost) were ended when a Soul Feeder inflicted Leech.  BRAUNCER was a better choice since about 3 of its Water Blasts doused the centaur, but my fake Water type was down to 56/145 HP after the duel.

BRAUNCER was able to stay in for a couple of turns against Xanders's Level 36 RUSTUNG (Mineral) and shoot Water Blasts.  RUSTUNG's Rock Barrage only hit for 18 and Rocknite Burst missed.  Still, it was time to move on to RAPNUX.  Xanders tried to save his Mineral type from Wind moves by. . .sending in Level 35 TRESAUR, another Mineral Nexomon.  Three Gusty Storms fossilized TRESAUR and Xanders summoned Level 36 VOLTAIC (Electric).

BULLOGAN invited VOLTAIC to a Leaf Dance and then Healed itself, but the dragon wasn't interested and tagged out to RUSTUNG.  RAPNUX's Gusty Storm rusted Xanders's 2nd Mineral type, causing Level 35 BLAZETILIA (Fire) to seek revenge.  NAMANSI cast Meteor Strike on both BLAZETILIA and VOLTAIC until it was at critical HP and had to switch to TARRAGON, who was still at full health.  TARRAGON Super Punched BLAZETILIA and defeated Xanders at last.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 9:  In Which PAUPO Finally Evolves

The first cultist in Tomb of Omicron unfortunately killed PAUPO with a Level 34 DREDDIFUL's (Ghost) Phantom Blast and deprived it of experience.  DREDDIFUL had a Water allergy and went into shock when hit with BRAUNCER's Splash.  For some reason, Level 35 GOATLANCHE (Normal) insisted on Scratching BRAUNCER for 13 and nearly died to repeated Water Blasts before switching to BULLOGAN.  BRAUNCER continued the Water Blast assaulted and drowned the enemy BULLOGAN.  My BULLOGAN's Leaf Dances cut up the Level 36 REPTOMOTOR (Electric), and TARRAGON's Electrodes zapped Level 35 SORVIAN (Wind) for victory.

At this point, there were four battles in Tomb of Omnicron that could be fought in any order.  I'll list them by location:

SE

BULLOGAN Leaf Danced with Level 36 VOLPRESSOR (Electric) until it was tired and switched to Level 35 BLOOMRIOL (Plant).  PAUPO put in a brief appearance before tagging out to RAPNUX, who plucked it out of the ground with Gusty Storm.  Level 36 MANTRASS (Plant) was a poor decision on the cultist's part when it was even more vulnerable to Gusty Storm than BLOOMRIOL.  Meteor Strike and Rocky Rift from NAMANSI short-circuited Level 36 OMECHARGE (Electric), and Meteor Strikes almost defeated Level 36 OSTROLT (Electric) too.  BULLOGAN's Leaf Dance ended this cultist battle.

NE

PAUPO dueled against Level 35 NAVRIGAL (Wind) until low on HP, and TARRAGON jolted the bird with Electrode.  TARRAGON stayed in and Super Punched + Scratched a Level 36 MOJOMPU (Normal) rabbit to death.  RAPNUX's Wind moves sent a THORNOX (Plant) flying.  Level 36 STREAMOAD (Water) failed to Freeze BULLOGAN, who Leaf Danced before chomping it with Bite.  BULLOGAN's Double Slashes tore Level 36 DALSAE (Wind) to shreds.

NW

NAMANSI's Meteor Strike and Rocky Rift blocked out the Level 34 SUNKNIGHT (Fire), and HARDING's starter also destroyed fellow fake Mineral type Level 35 SKOUNQUET with Plasma Star.  Level 35 IMBURION (Fire) and its Fire Claw inflicted Burning on BRAUNCER, but the pseudo Water type still drenched it with Water Blast.  BULLOGAN struggled against Level 38 CROMEON (Electric) more than expected after Palm Flurry Stunned (i.e. flinch) it multiple times.  BULLOGAN Healed just in time and Leaf Danced it to critical HP before Healing again.  Double Slash trimmed Level 36 LUMEREI's (Fire) fur, and Bite shattered CROMEON.  NAMANSI learned Heal, possibly making it a backup defensive Normal in the future.

SW

Atlanta the Water Renegade had already beaten up the cultists before HARDING arrived.  BULLOGAN's Leaf Dance and Bite mortally wounded Level 36 ANTARZEN (Water).  Level 36 VARAWIRL was another Leaf Dance victim, though Heal was needed for BULLOGAN to survive.  BULLOGAN also damaged Level 38 BLIZZAUR (Water) and NIVALIS with Leaf Dance, though BLIZZAUR was able to get in some free hits after Palm Flurry Stuns.  BULLOGAN had run out of Stamina and switched out to the fake Electric type TARRAGON.

TARRAGON's Twin Electrodes shocked NIVALIS and BLIZZAUR but killed neither.  NAMANSI's Plasma Star shone on BLIZZAUR for the kill and scared away NIVALIS, causing Level 37 SHARDRILLION (Mineral) to emerge.  RAPNUX's Gusty Storm lifted SHARDRILLION into the sky and Double Slash gashed NIVALIS for the victory.  The rewards were worth the trouble:  BRAUNCER learned Plasma Star, and PAUPO evolved into ARISPAUVA to catch up with the rest of the team.  ARISPAUVA's 51 DEF was troubling.  Maybe Burn + Invincible may be necessary for ARISPAUVA to win certain fights.

ARISPAUVA did its job in a fight with a VOLTA (Electric) Legendary dragon with 514 HP.  Burn scorched VOLTA for 41 HP after every round as if it were a free attack.  NAMANSI aimed Meteor Strikes at VOLTA for 55 damage and Healed itself, though Paralysis from a 25 damage Lightning Roar forced it to retreat after more 54-57 damage EMPs.  A critical EMP zapped BULLOGAN on the switch for 70, but VOLTA was down to 55 HP after taking Burning damage that round.  BULLOGAN Healed the EMP damage, then Bit VOLTA to win the battle.

HARDING looted Vault #6 in Frozen Tundra for the Tribute of Ocean, then fought a random tamer which finally gave TARRAGON a decent Electric move.  Electric Force has 110 power, 95 accuracy, and 44 speed, and it only took until Level 42 to learn.   shakehead   HARDING manufactured another Experience Core III and ended the session.

Nexomon Extinction Return To Normalcy Part 10:  Time To Grind

HARDING opened one treasure chest in Cadium to find an Exp Booster, restored the city's power, then participated in the Mega Arena of Doom.  RAPNUX's Gusty Storm weathered Level 40 BOULDCRAN to red HP and made it tag out to Level 39 SUNNOS (Psychic).  SUNNOS was too busy "Meditating!" to notice BULLOGAN Leaf Dancing its way.  Level 40 NAMANSI paid enough attention to run away when hit with Double Slashes, and a Leaf Dance finished off BOULDCRAN.  Bite tore into the enemy NAMANSI, and the fight was over.

Fighter #2 only had 2 Nexomon:  Level 39 THRAMMER (Water) and Level 40 MINETOR (Electric).  BULLOGAN had enough Stamina left over from the Ross fight to Leaf Dance most of THRAMMER's HP bar away and Bite MINETOR once.  NAMANSI pounded MINETOR with Meteor Strikes, finished it off with Rocky Rift, and killed THRAMMER with Plasma Star.

Trash Can Man opened with Level 41 JELIFLUX (Water), which TARRAGON barely managed to sink with Electric Force and Electrode.  ARISPAUVA Incinerated the Level 40 SWACTRUM (Ghost).  Level 40 LUNABELLE's (Mineral) Rocknite Burst hit BRAUNCER for 43 damage after a few rounds of Water Blasts, and RAPNUX had to end the battle with Gusty Storm.

Vados's Domain's teleporter maze was somehow even more annoying in this playthrough because I forgot the way to the exit.  You'd think modern RPGs would retire that type of dungeon that no one likes, but Nexomon Extinction has to copy the bad as well as the good of Pokemon.

ARISPAUVA Burned a 556 HP BOLZEN on the first round and made it bleed 44 HP per round.  A 45 damage Electric Storm paralyzed NAMANSI and made HARDING's starter lose a couple of turns.  At least NAMANSI conked BOLZEN with a 55 strength Meteor Strike.  BULLOGAN entered the ring after NAMANSI was at low HP, and Leaf Danced for 57 per hit.  Leaf Dancing must have made BULLOGAN nimble, since it dodged both a Thunder and a Static Burst.  A Bite destroyed Logan's Tyrant and sent the party to Lateria.

HARDING made sure to pick up the Repel Spray from the outer wall of the Lateria prison to avoid wild encounters in the future.  It can be activated or deactivated in the menu, so it's not a consumable like Repels in Pokemon.  HARDING took a detour to Frozen Tundra to catch a second DINJA, evolve it into a NAMANSI, then trade it to a Drake Isles NPC for a Vault Key.  He also caught a HOHOPI rabbit, but its Wind moveset made it seem like an inferior RAPNUX.

Vault #9 north of a pond east of Lateria wasn't worth the trouble except for the Tribute of Stone.  The story based level scaling had caught up with the Normals by the time they fought Celine the Mineral Renegade.  My NAMANSI had fallen behind the others due to being in the PC as HARDING was training the trade NAMANSI, and was equal to the Level 44 EQOLOPTERA (Electric).  Meteor Strikes pelted the bat until it died, though NAMANSI took heavy damage from Electric Storms.

NAMANSI Healed before attacking Level 45 MINETOR (Electric) and continued to cast Meteor Strike until Celine switched to Level 45 SIKIPHA (Plant).  SIKIPHA Recovered 19 HP at the end of every round, which outlasted ARISPAUVA's flimsy DEF stat and 64 damage Incinerates. ARISPAUVA survived at 1 HP (!) to tag out to Level 46 BRAUNCER against Level 44 WARGOYLE (Mineral).  Water Blasts forced WARGOYLE to switch to Level 44 BOMBLASTA (Fire), who was also weak to Water Blast.  BRAUNCER survived thanks to a Fire Claw miss.

ARISPAUVA and NAMANSI were sacrificed to Level 45 SIKIPHA.  Didn't expect Forest Energy to get a critical hit for 72!  Even RAPNUX lost a third of its HP before sending a Gust finisher.  Scratch shut down MINETOR and Gusty Storm injured OREGOON, but the latter Rock Punched out RAPNUX.  TARRAGON's Super Punch and Scratch killed the last two Nexomon.

HARDING's team was in no shape to defeat a 633 HP PETRAM immediately after the difficult battle with Celine's other team.  PETRAM didn't just rely on its HP for defense.  Rock Wall stood firm against Leaf Dance and reduced its power to 13 from the normal 48.  PETRAM Drilled into BULLOGAN for 49-51 and stirred up a Sandstorm for 33.  If BULLOGAN had infinite Stamina, perhaps it could have won.  But eventually it expired and a 10 HP BRAUNCER died immediately to a Rocknite Blast.  TARRAGON was the sole survivor and Super Punched PETRAM down to 223 HP before it was Drilled.

DEATH COUNT:  2

Back to Palmaya to gain levels!  RAPNUX and BRAUNCER need them the most since their attacks are Effective against Mineral types.
