SGOTM5 - Barbaric Mongolians

After SGOTM 4, I think we should definetly get some practice in beforehand.

Doesn't seem like BeefontheBone is currently active. There are several options:

1. Six players, four (or more) lurkers
2. Eight players, two (or more) lurkers
3. Six players, the other four sign-up as a separate team
4. Eight players, the other two sign-up as a separate team

A team with six players is the best option if all the current players can remain relatively active throughout the length of the game.

A team with eight players is better if some players know ahead of time that they will not be able to commit the time necessary.

The decision of whether to stick to the team of six or eight will probably be decided by the six current members (LKendter, Compromise, Swiss Pauli, Sir Bugsy, TheArchduke and I) while the decision whether to make a new RB team or act as "official lurkers" will go to the other four (sunrise, scooter, BWardly, Stagnate).

Please post your comments here, otherwise let me know via PM. I have the feeling that AlanH will compile the teams relatively soon, and we will need to begin working out strategy and organization as soon as our discussion thread opens.

(As a sidenote, a team of 10 players may be possible, but will most likely be inefficient and unrealistic)

Is there some sort of an official aspect to lurker? If so sign me up!

Edit: As a lurker, that is.

"Official" lurkers are listed as a part of the team. They are allowed to contribute ideas to help the team, but do not play any turnsets. In addition, "official" lurkers cannot venture into opponent team threads.

In other words, "official" lurkers are simply team members who do not directly play the game.

I was certain there was an explanation somewhere in the SGOTM forums, but I cannot locate it. There is important information in the reference thread, should you have any questions. I just read through it now and found things I hadn't know before.

Oh, and you can sign yourself up in this thread. Make sure you note that you wish to be a lurker.

I think I lean a bit towards being a lurker, probably playing a shadow of each turn to compare strategies and moves, but am open to playing.

I'll leave it to the other three to decide.

I'd rather not play with randoms, and your team is fairly full. I'm signing up as a lurker.

Lurkers, especially dedicated lurkers, can be very valuable members of a team. We had some in previous SGOTMs who gave us some good advice. (Like "you'd better get a long-range plan together"...we ignored those sage words, of course, and paid dearly as a result.)

But you don't want to be playing parallel versions of the game because there's a risk of spoiler info sneaking into your thinking. So, dedicated lurkers--those who wish to contribute to the team discussion, and we *will* listen--are strongly advised, and maybe required by SGOTM rules, to abide by the same rules as the team players. And that includes not playing any non-official turns.

It will be great if we can have some lurker input. We've missed some opportunities in the past....

Guys...be careful with the lurker sign-ups IF you don't know what you're getting in to.

There are three advantages to being an "official lurker":

1) the title
2) maybe having your advice more reading accepted
3) having the assurance that you're playing fair, since you haven't peaked at other threads - therefore you may post away without always having to be spoiler-phobic

there are also disadvantages:

1) you cannot follow the other threads until the game is over (if you enjoyed reading four RB29 threads you probably won't want to be locked out)
2) you can't actually play the game (since you can't be on another team)
3) you can't play shadow-turns.

Just make sure the "official lurker" thing is really what you want.

On point - Kodii, it looks like your team is pretty complete. I won't be joining another (don't want to play with unknowns in a competitive game and weed it up for them) but am undecided about the official lurker thing at this point.

Looks like it's six plus lurkers. It would be great if any of Clovis, sunrise089, Bwardly and Stagnate could play some test-game turns. I'm not sure whether participating in pre-game discussion would constitute official lurking. After the initial turns, the real game will pan out very differently to the test one, and if anyone wants to go lurk other threads (without spoilers) then I don't see why the CFC mods would have a problem with that. But if anyone wants to commit to official lurker status we certainly won't turn them away.

I signed up as an official lurker, this scenario actually really intrigues me...
