[Spoilers] Yaz of Persia

By the way, played the turn. The panther tried to kill my warrior but failed (1.7/2). Fishing completed, switched to mining. Warrior moved SE and saw bunch of nice grassland (jungle), grassland hills and rice. To SE I can see the coast but to south it seems to go down a little further.

Chat with Ruff. Trying to accomplish a few things:
  1. Keep him thinking we're friendly and no reason to be worried.
  2. Make him think he can settle between us (would love to get easy kill on way to his capitol)
  3. Avoid getting in position where I have to sign a NAP or risk tipping him off about attack

Chat Japan Wrote:Yaz: So I managed to move my warrior in to see some of the land this turn. Now I see why you've been fighting to settle so close to me lol
Ruff.Hi: because there is no where else
Yaz: You don't have any other land? I know I have a long narrow stretch of land behind me (albeit barren with practically zero resources) so I doubt you have no other land since the map was reviewed.
Yaz: That's why I'm not quite understanding the insistance of settling so close to me because I'm rather certain you must have an area similar yourself.
Ruff.Hi: I am hard up against the eastern shore line
Ruff.Hi: I have one city that will share a tile with my capital and have 3 clear land tiles
Yaz: Have you managed to explore all along the coats though? You only had a warrior (perhaps two now?) so would have been hard on the beeline to me.
Yaz: Like I said too, I doubt thawk missed that you had no land to grow into beyond snuggling up to me :P
Yaz: I'm sure you can understand my point of view of not wanting your city bordering my capitol. Just like I know you wouldn't want my expansion to border yours if roles were reversed.
Ruff.Hi: totally
Ruff.Hi: guess you and your quick settler trait will just take the land you want
Yaz: It's possible :P That didn't work out too well for me in RBP2 lol
Ruff.Hi: really? how so
Yaz: er RBP1 I mean
Yaz: When I settled those two cities close to reg and pissed him off lol
Ruff.Hi: yeah - well ... guess you have a few turns before your settler is ready anyway
Yaz: Not even building one right now so yeah.
Ruff.Hi: i'm also out of pocket from 11th to 20th ... so we have time
Yaz: Yeah. So you didn't answer but have you covered the coast to your north and south for any extra land?
Ruff.Hi: there is nothing to the North
Ruff.Hi: and I went basically West and then SW
Yaz: OK well would you accept a promise that I won't rush in and settle between us to give you time to explore your south coast which it sounds like you missed because I'm almost positive you must have more land. That or I need a talk with thawk :P
Ruff.Hi: any land that I visited will be will be cut off by your city
Yaz: Unless you already have a settler on the way lol
Ruff.Hi: lets just play it out - see what happens
Ruff.Hi: have to go now - sorry
Ruff.Hi: sorry to sound a little short ... this game is frustrating me because I cannot make a plan and I feel as if I am on the back foot
Ruff.Hi: ok - now I really have to go - talk to you later smile

I managed to get some info on him about the lay of the land near him provided he's not lying. Sounds like he's on the east coast and that if I stay close to north shore I'll probably bump right into him. He hasn't explore to his south supposedly (he must have another warrior or even scout by now) but provided he didn't lie about the other things about his land then I'm rather convinced there must be some expansion room there.

By the sounds of it though he either wants to rush settle in the middle (he's probably already working on the settler if that's true) or duke it out (maybe he already has bronze working and is getting copper? frown ). If he's going to duke it out and has copper then I'm screwed. Either way though I'm committed.

It wasn't that you settled them - it was that you told me that I could settle there and then settled them

I'm pretty sure I never said you could settle them because we never finished negotiating. One option was that you might settle in the area sure, it wasn't decided and we didn't come to an agreement so I was not under any commitment to let you settle the spots.

Nice to know you're reading though here though smile

Interesting development. Keep keeping us posted. smile
I have to run.

hehe I plan on it, at least provided my plan doesn't backfire and I find I've ticked off a bunch of spear wielding Japanese.

Had a chat with dreylin last night and darrell. Seems everybody shares an island with one other.

Darrell + Krill
Dreylin + SL
Myself + Ruff

Darrell and Krill only just met by Krill finding Darrell's city as I recall. So they have decent distance probably.

Dreylin and SL met on turn 5 supposedly with both traveling towards each other though (each had warriors).

So by the sounds of it Ruff & and I are the closest together (doh!). Him having found my capital on turn 8 with his warrior. Dreylin & SL are next closest followed by Krill & Darrell

Turn 18

Can finally see demographics. Apparently he's doing pretty good :P

Kyoto is currently size 4 (from top 5 cities). Persepolis is 5th, only one other civ has size 4 city.

There are the demo screens that matter. He's obviously in full growth/coin mode right now and he's got absolutely nothing for production. Based on the dips and dives he must be mostly harvesting at sea and won't be able to maintain the same growth with good production. I'd venture to guess he has at least two warriors. I'm somewhat guessing though and have no experience interpreting these hehe.

My warrior moves NW to tag the scout for it's turn to go scouting. Warrior will head back to persepolis to heal up and guard. Other warrior will protect worker building road from the nasty lion up there. Fingers crossed I don't get any bad rolls or this plan could be shot to pieces.

Scout will head SE SE then E NE and head back up to northern coast after revealing a few more tiles to my south. Want to see what unit path will be following northern coast since I presume his city is near it.

hah completely forgot to check trade window. Ruff has clams hooked up and that's it. He'll now be able to see I have cows. I never even thought of this with regard to hitting him with immortals in that if he's paying attention he'll know as soon as I have horses hooked up.

Turn played, followed my scripts.

Charts are showing that Ruff's mfg has spiked up, gnp way down. Appears to have soared in power too so I'm guessing that's bronze working? As I've said I never follows these but a new unit wouldn't spike it like that and I can't think of any other military type tech he'd get. Fingers crossed he doesn't have copper nearby frown

Power graph:

Ancient/Early Classical-era techs:
2000 soldiers – Sailing, Hunting, Mining, Animal Husbandry
4000 soldiers- Wheel
6000 soldiers- Mathematics, Archery
8000 soldiers- Bronze Working
10000 soldiers- Horseback Riding, Iron Working

Units:
Strength*1000 soldiers.
Exceptions:
Scouts = 0 power
Axes = 6 power
UUs are almost always the same strength as their replacements (Exceptions: Skirms + Bowmen are each 4k, and Praets are 8k)

Thanks! smile That helps a lot, I'd searched before but not found it. We don't have the actual demo screen so can only go by graph spikes but yeah defnitely looks like 8000 points based on those numbers so that means bronze working or I guess some combination of the others.

Here's the graph.

Is the power graph delayed by certain amount of turns or is it real time in these games?
