[Spoilers] PBEM 2 Lurker Discussion - No Players!

If SL's gift makes the difference on Darrell surviving, and Darrell can later pay back SL with something of more value than "Great Lighthouse denial", then that's to SL's advantage to have done so.

I am quite amused by the Yaz-Ruff relationship now. Yaz told Ruff of Yaz's attack on Darrell. Yaz knows that Darrell saw it coming and had galleys to defend. Yaz is furious at Ruff for leaking, except that Ruff didn't leak, Darrell sniffed out the attack on his own. But Ruff doesn't realize that Yaz blames him, so now Ruff has an angry neighbor but doesn't understand why. And Darrell knows the whole story, and is taking advantage by poisoning the relationship even more by hinting to Yaz that Ruff did leak.

This will not block the horses import. Two parties can trade resources if either of them has a trade connection to the other. If Yaz blockades Darrell, then Darrell loses trade connection to Square Leg, but SL will still have trade connection to Darrell.

Yaz would have to also be at war with Square Leg for a blockading ship to interrupt the horses import.

If the trade route between Darrell and SL goes through Yaz territory, isn't it enough for Yaz to declare war on SL to break up the horse trading? Darrell doesn't seem to have considered that.

Yes, by my understanding.

However, now Yaz posted that he also declared war on Ruff (which should have nothing to do with this), and that the horses deal to Darrell has been broken. I don't know why; this runs counter to my understanding of trade routes. SL should be able to trade horses to Darrell, since a coastal path exists from capital to capital (SL knows Sailing), where every tile is defogged by at least one of the players (we know this was true because the horse trade existed before), and never passes through territory hostile to SL (because nobody is at war with SL.)

It is possible that a barbarian city just appeared somewhere to block the trade route (a coastal tile owned by barbarians is considered hostile to SL), but if that's not the case, then my understanding of trade routes is incomplete.

Not exactly true. Ruff hinted and nudged Darrel on. He even used it to get Darrel to sign the treaty.

Ruff_Hi Wrote:Here is where Japan can help. Yaz contacted me today to discuss his plans v America. Are you interested in knowing what they are? Have we both signed on to The Big Deal treaty?
Darrell: I'm interested in knowing what they are. We have not both signed The Big Deal treaty yet.
Ruff: Well, here is the rub ... Yaz asked me not to share that stuff, and without article XI, I don't think that I can.
....
Ruff: now for a little fun ... and so that I can say to Yaz that I didn't tell you anything ...
can you see Yaz's power?
Darrell: nope
but I assume its pretty good
given the war you are at
Ruff: I can - will send you info
Darrell: and the immortals I saw walking around
Ruff: he had 1 axe and 1 immortal that I saw
Darrell: Im going to sink his stuff off the coast
Ruff: and he mentioned 1 axe and 1 immortal in productino
and so on. So clearly Darrel hadn't known of the attack had Ruff not talked to him. Why Yaz felt the need to discuss such secrets with Ruff is a completly other matter (and imo pure smoke )

Your understanding is complete, Yaz declared on SL as well. The DoW on Ruff was probably to prevent a copper trade.

Aha. Yaz didn't actually say he declared on SL. But that makes sense.

Trades will be back on if Darrell and SL can discover a path that does not pass through water controlled by Yaz. But that may be moot since Darrell will either have his own resources or be dead by then.

If Yaz does succeed and capture the Great Lighthouse, he becomes the favorite by a fair margin, although with everybody else already gunning for him!

Do you think he could hold it? I think he'd have to raze it

True and good point. I'd been thinking this was a capital strike to knock Darrell out of the game, but he does have four or five other cities.

Any clue what this is about?
