Civ5 known bugs and exploits

Check out this one from MrGameTheory on CFC.

Basically, when you are starving a city the game doesn't remove the people working tiles when you have one of your people set as a citizen(1 hammer specialist). The city will look like it is starving from the main view but it wont actually lose its people in the city view.

Example: Grow a city to size 5, then starve it down with this method to 1 population by having your people work hills, work specialist slots or just set them to citizens. Remember to leave one person as a citizen. Now you'll have 5 people working a size 1 city. The city will grow almost instantly since you have so much population working to fill a size 1 food box. Rinse and repeat until you have a huge city.

You get huge cities and the happiness is based on the population size on the main view. Now you can expand like a deity AI!

First time I got a game into industrial/modern era last night, found this weird bug. When loading air units on carriers, subs, and missile cruisers the aircraft number icon remains on the hex where the units were loaded, and also on every hex where the ship carrying these units ended its turn. So I load a couple subs full of nukes, then I have this goofy looking trails of (2) all over the ocean.

They disappear after save and reload, but real annoying when I had 3 loaded subs waiting to dump nukes, plus battleships and stuff all over the place and I had to keep clicking like a doofus to find where my nukes actually were duh

Kristian95 Wrote:alas I have discovered a couple more "features"

In my current game, playing Siam (who get 50% more from maritime and cultural CS!) my save game suddenly exploded from around 300kb to 17000kb and now takes forever to save (and load)... on top of that, if I want to load it while actually playing a game Civ5 crashes! I tried loading the save and then just make a new save game, but that save game was also bloated big frown

Yeah, this is apparently a pretty common problem and Firaxis knows about it. You can find some information in the main Civ V thread that I posted.

I found another intersting feature...

Normally, if you use a Great Artist for a Culture bomb you have to wait 10 turns (normal speed) before you can make another Culture bomb.... if you instead save the game after the 1st culture bomb, and reload it (rebooting civ5 might be required) the game forgets about the culture bomb timer and you can make another culture bomb (if you have enough Great Artists that is)...

Two things I ran into last night. The first is probably more a balance issue but it definitely made me go huh I was playing on a huge earth map, Bismarck had gone on the warpath against several other civs and was in the middle of killing Alexander, whom I'd been trading with for more than 300 turns. Fearing Bismarck was starting to run away I declared war and began attacking his units and taking a few cities. Then Alexander started whining about me expanding on his turf, a few turns later he turned hostile. Come on, we've been trading for many years, then I help you by attacking the guy who are close to destroying you, and you get angry with me... bang

Second is a true bug, after some more fighting Bismarck asked for peace and would gift me a lot of cities. I noticed that while I was going through the cities (burn/annex/puppet/liberate) the IBT seemed to progress for the other AIs. Then I could not complete the next turn, it kept asking me to choose production without pointing me to a city. Reverting to an autosave I figured out I could avoid the problem by annexing all cities offered, but that threw me deep into unhappiness. Finally I found a work-around, calling Bismarck and ask him to suggest a peace-deal before ending the turn. Seems like this is a typical multi-threaded application issue..

If you check out post #117 forward in our SG titled RB2, we seem to have found a glitch where Cathy gets hundreds of horsies.
