So talking of settling in place vs. going 1SE.

* SIP trades 4 coast and an offshore wheat for a peak, 2 tundra forests, a bare grass and a grass forest. Also has a forested GH instead of a 2nd bare grass hill
* 1 SE has 2 more forests and 2 more river tiles

They are tundra forests which are junk tiles (like non-Fin coast), but they're still 20 hammers. The river tiles are a grass forest and a grass hill.

1SE might also leave us room for a city in the NW? If we SIP we can't settle 2N or 2N1E it does look like 3N is land though

Yo mama is so fat when she sits around the house, she REALLY sits around the house.

I gotta tell you though I can't say your mom jokes out loud without trying to channel my inner Gene Rayburn

Note to self: NEVER discuss PBEM26 with you on Skype.

Save hit me just when I was heading off to bed. Oh well. If it was T1-10 I'd have played quickly but don't want to rush T0, so it will be morning.

The tile 2N1E of the settler is a plains wine that we'd miss if we settle SE but I still lean towards going there instead of SIP

Land area is 8 max, 5.5 avg which means of the 3 teams that played before me, they all settled T0, 2 settled SE and 1 settled in place (assuming equal starts)

Okay then. After doing some of SevenSpirits' wizardry (from their PBEM19 thread), I found that the map is 64 tiles wide by 40 tiles high, and wraps in both directions (which I think that we knew from the initial settings)

Moving the warrior 1NW revealed a wines tile that we'll miss if we settle 1SE. Still I think that's not bad. 2/1/3 is nice, but it's not super-fantastic, and it's not going to affect the early game. By the time I have Monarchy, I should have a city up there to get the wines (and in any case on T25 the capital's 3rd ring will have them in my culture)

Here's the demographics

As I mentioned last night, 3 teams have played before me (only Pindicator is after me), and it appears that 2 have settled 1SE and 1 settled in place. We should be able to figure that out possibly when borders expand, or more certainly at T20 when we get land points.

Of course that assumes that our starts are equal, which isn't necessarily true (though certainly possible). In any case, we definitely know that the 3 folks have all settled, and everyone is on the coast (or at least has 1 water tile in their initial 9 tiles). Next turn we will be able to see what min land is and we can use that to draw some more conclusions.

2 expansive folks ahead of me, so with max production of 4, makes sense that they are both building workers. Or possibly workboats but if there is a fish tile in that fog I seriously am going to punch plako (and Krill too, but that one's just out of principle). Someone is at 5 food, which makes sense for Zara of Aztecs working a flood plain tile.

Settling 1SE reveals..... furs! Crap tundra forest furs (1/1/4) but the happy will be nice. That means I need to decide if I want to spend the 40 beakers on Hunting to save 20 beakers on Animal Husbandry (103b) but that's a topic for another post.

Mousing over my score reveals that there are only 581 land tiles. That's.... not a lot. That's 116 per person, 33 of which appear to be on this starting island.

Back to the demographics.

GNP: Best is 19 and average is 13. If I don't pick a tech my GNP is 16 and 3rd place. If I pick AH, my GNP is 18 and 2nd place. Creative Zara (Sian) at 19 must be working a non pre-req tech. One of Yuri / Commodore is working a pre-req tech and one is not. Commodore (Carthage) starts with Fishing and Mining, so gotta figure Hunting on that one. I'll peg Yuri on Animal Husbandry. If he settled in place, he may not even have seen the furs. Plus my own tests have determined that Hunting before AH blows. Need to get that 7 yield tile up ASAP. But I REALLY cannot figure out what Sian is doing. But his GNP is 19 (8 palace + 1 free beaker + 1 floodplain + 1 center + 4 culture + 4 espionage), so he has to be working a non-pre-req tech. But starting with Hunting / Mysticism, nothing makes sense. If starts are the same pretty much the only move for him is A/H. I guess MAYBE Agriculture if he wants double pre-reqs on AH. I mean that's a smoke move, but that's the best I can come up with.

Approval rate: Nobody Charismatic, so everyone is at 83 (5 happies / 1 unhappy)

Life Expectancy: I'm at 81 and in first place, which is 9 healthy / 2 unhealthy. That's 2 from difficulty + 2 from fresh water + 2 from expansive + 3 from forests. Again going after the theory that everyone has the same start, the two expansives should be at 81 + 80, and 77 for a non-expansive guy settling in place. But 81, 81, 75 would also work and give 59 average. We might be able to tell more next turn after Pindicator settles.

Soldiers: The obvious things there
Sian: Hunting = 2K
Yuri: Warrior = 2K
Gaspadore: Mining + Warrior = 4K
Us: Wheel + warrior = 6K
Pindicator: Hunting = 2K

Average is 2500 which jives.

Pindicator also settled. Rival average is now 9250, which threw me for a loop. But then I saw rival max is 17000, which jives with Creative Sian having borders pop at EOT. That jives with him settling his capital in the same place that I did (the 1SE) spot. 9250 * 4 = 37000, so 17,8,6,6. Sian and myself settled 1SE and Pindicator settled in place (if he also had 8000 land area he would be 2nd and I would be 3rd rank). One of Yuri / Gaspadore settled in place and one settled 1SE.

Looks like Pindicator is working the flood plains tile (if it was 5 + 2 + 2 + 2, prod average would be 2). Which means that his GNP is 17/19, depending on what tech he's working, and since I'm in 2nd place with 18, then he must be working a non pre-req tech, which still does not make sense as he starts with Hunting. Though I guess in his (and Sian's) defense, maybe they're not building a worker. Or I guess they could still be building a (non-Expansive) worker, which would complete on T10, and they could farm a FP before pasturing the cows. I think this is a mistake, but it at least is self-consistent.

Food numbers are 5 + 5 + 2 + 2 or 14, jiving with the average of 3.

Approval numbers are 83 across the board of course.

Health has worst at 75, which is 6 health to 2 unhealthy, meaning that (at least) one of the non-Expansive civs has settled in place, and at least one of the Expansive civs has moved 1SE (again, I do understand starting positions may not be exactly the same, even if I don't explicitly say it every time).

Pindicator - not expansive, settled in place, 75 health
Sian - not expansive, settled 1SE, 77 health
Gaspadore - expansive, not sure, either 80 or 81 health
Yuri - expansive, not sure, either 80 or 81 health

Or maybe T2 is "The Most Boring Turn Ever"? Of course at EOT, there are border expansions, at least on quick

There's also a crab 2S of the fur and a deer 2W of that (resource bubble at edge of screen wankiness). So definitely a viable (but not great) city down there with deer and crabs.

And of course the fish to the north. I'm thinking City 2 (So Ugly) goes 1S of the wheat. 3rd city probably on the Wheat Island, and 2 more cities on this main island (1N of Wine and on the ice hill between deer and crabs)
