Argh. I like something like Willem of Vikings, but that combo is hard because I can't be guaranteed it. Let's think this through
If I pick Willem now, Dazed and Seven still have yet to pick civ. They are Darius and Zara. It all depends on if they value Agriculture or Fishing as better, as I think you want one of the two here. If either of them want Fishing, I bet they take Vikings. Now, Dazed is playing Vikings like I am in PB5 and Seven saw Serdoa already do Vikings, so that very well could be the thing that dissuades them.
If I pick Vikings now, Yuris and Pindicator still have to pick. Yuris I think I can count on to take a PHI leader. Pindicator however may very well be going for my Willem of Japan plan, in which case I'd probably be stuck with something else.
So... Neither are great options. I do think I could get Pacal of Inca, but that not only is no scout, no whale (Agri), but it also is Myst which downgrades Rice to plains (-1f, +1h), which means you don't grow as fast which defeats half the point of starting with Agriculture. So I'd have a pretty slow start to overcome, and I'd still have to figure out a way to pop borders in such in a map where you're going to settle a lot of cities. That's half the reason I want Creative anyways.
Last time I agree to a non-snake pick hah.

I'm assuming you mean FIN Portugal, but why? For 2 commerce?

Vikings it is. I figure this choice gives me the most flexibility out of anyone. I don't want to see my second choice screwed, and this leaves me with two options that I like, and I'm pretty confident one of them will fall to me.
For now, I still like FIN/CRE and EXP/ORG. Both Darius and Zara would have been a bit better, but I can roll with either of those. Explanations:
1) Willem - For the opening, CRE lets me work the Whales 1T sooner. I'd be working 3/1/5 whales before anyone else works rice. That's still inferior to Rice (5/0 definitely better than 3/1), but it helps make up the difference. Plus the extra 5 commerce is a nice freebie to let me make up the time it takes to tech Agri and AH. Longterm, FIN will be great for the amount of water on the map and for teching purposes. CRE will be great for expansion because I won't have to worry about Stonehenge - and since we'll be settling a lot of cities, that's a lot of hammers saved, not to mention the cheap Library bonus. That means an Academy at some point would be nice.
2) Mehmed - Apparently he's Exp/Org, I had to look it up. Anyways, the ORG supermarket would be a really nice boost and help make up for the slight food deficit of farming later than the others. I've discussed at length why I like ORG, and EXP is of course always awesome. It's slightly less awesome here when you start with a worker, but the granary bonus is where it's at here and of course we'll want a couple of those. I think this is a longterm slightly weaker pick than Willem, but I do wonder if the Supermarket will be enough of a boost to make up for it.
Anyways, I think I'll sim out starts with both of these dudes tonight and see what happens. If by some weird act both of these guys get taken, I may do another one of those parody posts and parody Lewwyn this time . And then ragequit for real. I'm still kinda expecting a PHI from Yuris though - I'd do it if I was him. The Artist is useful for a lot of things - 1) bomb key land like a chokepoint 2) bulb Monarchy. So because that's such a strong route, I think my two leaders are safe. I could always fall back on Sury.

Hmm. I could name them after maybe the most prestigious universities? Trying to decide if I like that better than naming it after academic majors.
Anyways, both Willem and Mehmed are available thankfully. I did a sandbox/sim for Willem, I'm going to do one for Mehmed now, and then post my decision hopefully before I go to bed tonight.

Ok, Mehmed and his +1F supermarket is about 1T faster getting the settler out (same with 2nd settler). That's not a huge difference. In exchange Willem gets like 15 extra beakers in that same time. I'm leaning towards Willem right now.

Two leaders I've played before here. I venture I'm the only one who can say that. /threadjack

Two leaders I've never before played here, so I'm definitely in the opposite camp. Got a vote for which I should pick? I like them both. I lean Willem because I haven't played CRE in forever.

Well, I'm beyond spoiled since I did the setup with Commodore but Mehmed is sneaky good on a map with a lot of coastal cities, you get discounts on everything. And I think Org is better than Fin on a toroid. But I'm also not that good, so don't take too much from me.
Cre is a fun trait, so relaxing.
