T4 and our borders popped to show stone...
How convenient except for total lack of food (that we can see). Hopefully there is food hidden in the fog but even without food, settling on the stone would grab a sz 4 hammer city (3F farm + 3 1F3H mines for 11H/turn) with 7 forests to chop. Definitely not the spot for our second city but could serve as a third city site if we want to build the Mids.
The question is do we (haven't asked Nakor yet though) want to build the Mids? Yup, absolutely. No rivers in sight and the only happiness resource in sight is desert gold (so far). Commerce for research is going to be hard to come by. We could cottage non-riverside grass tiles for commerce but that doesn't seem like a winning strategy (with all the FIN leaders), only necessary.
Since we are PHI/CRE, it would make a lot of sense to run scientists for research (until CoL when Merchants would also make sense). We still need to find a good commerce city to fund expansion and Redemption is clearly better suited as a GP farm (might even want to move the palace eventually) but I definitely think settling high food/high hammer cities to run Rep specialists under caste (head to CoL as soon as feasible) is our best means of researching.

Wow! Mids is a very good option! But first, let's see if we have horses... I really think taking someone out early and then expanding to a good size with enough land is a good way to go. Look at Commodore in PB8....

We really wouldn't want to consider Mids until after we research BW. I am more concerned about securing metal. Horses would allow us to War Chariot rush but we are still going to need some sort of metal to defend with. Ideally, it would be nice to do an early rush and still build the Mids so we could use the conquered land to run Rep specialists as well. Hard to say until we find out where our opponents are (and of course whether we have horses or not).

Looks like there are flood plains further west. At least there is a fish for yet another filler city that can share the gold. 1 SE of the wheat would be a decent second city but I am just speculating until we find out where horses are (if present at all). The plan for next turn is to head to the PF south of the wheat and then try to uncover as much of the map as possible. Naturally we'll try to end turn in a forest as much as practical now that barb animals are in play.

Might want to settle on the riverside desert hill to set up a commerce city (third or fourth city?). Looks like there are ~4 FPs that can be cottaged. Probably head the scout west then depending on what is revealed (i.e. if there is a grass hill west of the plains hill which is what it looks like) might risk ending turn on a hill to try and get vision on the FP area. Afterwards, need to start scouting northwards and try and reveal territory west/north west of our capitol.

W - NW might put the scout into a forest.
Not a lot of good sites in sight....[/i]

Went ahead and risked moving to the PH once the grassland tile was revealed. Looks like we have coast to the west but we'll find out for sure next turn after moving 2W into the forest. Then there are plenty of forests to move into as the scout goes north. Since we have tundra to the north (and very rarely would a player spawn in tundra, unless it is you playing Deity against AIs - been there done that), anyone sharing our landmass should be located in the south. Also possible that we are on our own little island. It would be a good idea to send a military unit to scout further south now that barb animals have spawned. The scout can verify that no one is to our west.

The desert hill is looking better and better. At first, I was dreading the thought of isolation (PB8 flashbacks) but now I think it would actually be ok. As the markers show, we have a tight grid of cities we can settle. We seem to have decent early production and have a good commerce city that isn't far away from the capitol (in fact would eventually become our new capitol under Bureaucracy) plus we have STONE. We also have the option of shooting for an early Astronomy GS bulb if we choose to go that route. Still really very early but I am liking the possibilities.

A little too quiet...haven't even seen any barb animals yet. Hmm, probably should rename the scout. Guess I'll do that next turn.
