[SPOILERS] Consider it a Divorce! Doug Quaid and Elizabeth of Egypt

Still crushed under a mountain of work and other obligations, but I got my turn in today. I realize this is probably an incredibly boring thread for the lurkers, so I'll try to pick up the fun speculation and reporting when I have more time. For now though, not a lot happening. The corn is improved, I've got a warrior, I'm making another warrior, and I'm improving the wheat. My scout is almost in position to begin scouting the land to my south.

Popped bronze working and... I have copper 2e of my capital. Woop!

I feel extremely fortunate to have the position that I do. I have copper and lots of food resources, and a wine resource with the improvement already provided for me. My only excuse for not doing well out of this start will essentially be "I am bad at Civ 4."

Nice to find furs. For some reason that lion elects not to kill my scout. Okay. Thanks?

Crabs to the southwest. Lots and lots of food on this map.

Time for a proper update.

Here is the state of the empire on turn 37:

I'm not doing anything particularly creative or amazing here, so here are the bullet points on what I am doing right now:

- Settler 1 is going to set up shop on that plains hill adjacent to the wine.
- Settler 2 I'm going to send south to grab the spot between the gold and the copper. It's risky, and maybe foolish, but I'm in it to win it.
- I whipped Thebes ten turns ago, so I'm ready to get in there again. I think my best bet here is to let the city grow to pop 5 and then double whip the settler after the Great Prophet comes out. I'll settle the GP.
- Hunting or Writing next. Not sure, depends on how aggressively I can get these settlers out.
- Mackoti's power graph seems to indicate that he isn't whipping military. That's good and bad, but mostly it means I need to get my ass in gear and grab some of this land to my south.

Unfortunately since I have a Steam copy of Civ4, I might need someone else to take over for me here, at least for the time being.

Anyone interested?

Turn 42

You had a nice collection of military units, but they weren't doing much. I reckon the axemen are better used securing the area between you and Mackoti, so you can settle there. The warriors should scout. I left one warrior as MP in your capital. The warrior that was fortified on the copper I moved 1W, it's currently under the axeman, and it can go west to scout.

A closer look. I later decided to let Memphis continue its obelisk build.

The south. I don't think your next settler should go here, it's too far and there's too little food. In the screenshot above you have wet rice and corn to claim between yourself and Mackoti, the "c" spot or a spot east of that claims both without needing a border expansion.

Your capital. I settled the prophet, like you had planned. I think that's the best use of it too, since a golden age is too early, and you likely won't secure a religion for a shrine any time soon. Your were building a settler, but you only have one worker, so I think you ought to whip a worker and overflow to the settler, slowbuilding it to completion at size 3. You need to put down a few roads and prepare for your settler to arrive at your next city spot. When you settle a new city you want workers on site to improve the resources there immediately.

Memphis. I'm sorry to say that you won't get the wine resource until you have the Monarchy tech, even though the wine already has a winery. Nevertheless I finished the road there so we can start improving the rice next.

Tech tree. You would love an easy way to pop borders, but stonehenge has fallen and both Buddhism and Hinduism have been founded. I figure going for Monotheism is quite a gamble for you, so Writing->Mathematics is probably the lower variance play. There is also a case to be made for going for Monarchy next.

You have research visibility on Mackoti, that's nice to have. I switched EPs to Gawdzak so you can get his graphs.

Do you want me to play turn 43 as well?
I have to run.

Turn 43

I whipped the worker and moved units out to scout.

Gawdzak founded a new city. A lion is chasing the scout. There's a nice city spot there that claims three food resources.

Here's a trick to see where your opponents are expanding. The mouseover tip for the corn resource says "Requires route". That means it's already farmed (by Mackoti). Compare to the mouseover for the wheat, which is not improved.

The corn mouseover said "Requires: farm" last turn, so Mackoti just farmed that resource.
I have to run.

Thanks. I'm working on trying to get two installs working today. I got food poisoned yesterday and... yeah you don't want details.

Got it working. Thanks a lot, man.

I think I am way too used to playing real time multiplayer. I assumed that if I didn't park something on that copper, it was as good as pillaged the second anything capable of pillaging it swung by to scout.

I'm tossing up a cottage with the worker you whipped. I'd love to get that gold, but it's just not going to happen.
