I managed to log in fine on a PC - is anyone else with a mac having trouble?

I even tried upgrading to OSX 10.11.1 finally and still didn't work frown.

Already did. Tried civ4 from another digital vendor and I tried on another mac in the home but also got the same error.

Try using windows version of civ through some kind of windows emulator. I remember that Furungy was able to play a modded version of civ from Mac in this way.

Yeah. If you have a Windows CD or Windows Steam version you can run it on Wine (I do the latter).
